Chapter 18 - Junior High School

This was the year when everyone had to complete their education online via Zoom, and only indoors, to maintain social distancing policies. I recall my history class being interesting, considering we learned that Christopher Columbus isn't as great as he's made out to be on public holidays and whatnot.

That teacher practically challenged our way of thinking that everything may not be the way we were told. I recall Christopher Columbus being seen as a great and amazing man. When in reality, he practically caused a lot of destruction, stole, killed, raped, and did other brutal things just to conquer the entire land to become his.

I do remember a discussion about how the pandemic affected citizens. Most of the victims who ended up dying were the elderly and those who were more vulnerable to COVID-19. I heard many news stories on social media about how this virus took away their loved ones and whatnot. One of my classmates even expressed how she lost relatives because of this pandemic.

I chose to take a Spanish beginner class instead of the third year of Mandarin. I was already struggling in the intermediate class in my Sophomore year, so I didn't see the point in struggling again by taking another year when I didn't enjoy it. The most memorable thing in Spanish class was that we had to perform a Spanish dialogue roleplay using toys, dolls, or something similar. I personally used my Pokémon plushies to do the assignment.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I was a huge fan of that one Hootie house show in my junior year. I was obsessed with it during this time. I really loved the story of the green-haired perfectionist and the neurodivergent girl who wanted to be a witch. Perhaps I was always a yuri fan when I was a teenager.
