Gage frowned when he noticed Ashley's flushed face and unsteady breathing.
"I'm fine," Ashley interrupted before he could speak. "Check on Mr. Lowe. We need to get out of here."
Without waiting for a response, she glanced down at her ruined dress. Knowing it would only restrict her movement, she grabbed the torn hem and ripped it cleanly up to her knees.

Only then did Gage nod. Suppressing the pain from his burned arm, he staggered toward Mr. Lowe, who had been thrown several feet away by the explosion.
Gideon pushed himself fully to his feet with a grunt, ignoring the pain radiating from his scorched shoulder.
"Are you hurt?" he asked, his eyes briefly sweeping over Ashley to make sure she was still holding fine.
The next moment, his gaze shifted toward the battlefield.
His expression darkened.
A low, menacing growl escaped his throat.
