Ch68Oops, I Accidentally Ended Up in Your Arms

"Are you done being angry?"

Shen Que stood shoulder to shoulder with Meng Ci, watching the exhausted Liu Jie in the floodwaters.

"Not quite yet."

Only when Liu Jie was truly dead would Meng Ci's anger fully dissipate.

"Then before you calm down, could you at least tend to your wound?"

Meng Ci's back injury only came to mind upon hearing Shen Que's words.

It seemed fighting couldn't make one forget pain-only rage could.

Seeing Liu Jie had swallowed enough water, Meng Ci asked Shen Que to help pull him out.

It wasn't that Meng Ci had softened he just feared that if he went to bandage the wound, Liu Jie might be swept away by the current or rescued by someone else. What then?

This time, there could be no mercy.

Once pulled ashore, Liu Jie coughed up water. The only thing Meng Ci had spared him-his underwear-had been washed away, leaving him lying naked on the ground.

It was a sight to make one squint. Meng Ci quickly averted his gaze.

Liu Jie's eyes rolled back as he coughed up more water.

"Xiao Ci, I knew you still liked me!" Liu Jie regained his strength after spitting and started making assumptions.

Meng Ci was speechless. Like hell he liked him-what was there to like about that scrawny little thing?

With a swift motion, before Liu Jie could say another word, Meng Ci finished him off with a single, expressionless slash.

He tossed the body into the floodwaters, puncturing the Qinglong Gang's assault boats along the way to destroy all evidence. Only then did Meng Ci and Shen Que ascend the building.

On the seventeenth floor, Yun Jingcen and the others had sustained injuries to varying degrees.

Having tended to each other's wounds, they were now planning how to dispose of the corpses littering the floor.

Spotting Meng Ci and Shen Que arriving, Yun Jingcen inquired, "Finished up?"

Meng Ci nodded.

Shen Que added, "I'll bandage his wounds first, then join you to handle these."

"No worries, we've got plenty of hands. We'll sort this out soon. You focus on him," Yun Jingcen offered thoughtfully.

"What? My Gege's injured?"

Ruan Qing yanked open the security door. Before her foot could step outside, Duan Yan's piercing gaze made him pull back and slam the door shut.

Fine, fine. If he couldn't go out, he wouldn't go out.

He'd already seen the corpses outside. What was there left to avoid?

Shen Que brought the man to his home, first turning on two space heaters before instructing Meng Ci to remove his clothes and lie down on the sofa.

Alcohol disinfection, gauze bandaging the wounds.

Meng Ci remained silent throughout. Shen Que assumed It was due to his endurance, but in truth, Meng Ci was deep in thought.

In this apocalypse, living detached from the world seemed impossible. If he didn't seek trouble, trouble would find him.

Maybe one day, he wouldn't even get to fight an enemy before being killed outright.

If that was the case, he might as well live according to his own desires while he still could.

Thinking this, Meng Ci glanced at Shen Que.

Shen Que was baffled by the look, pausing with the tape in his hand. "Does it hurt?"

After that, Shen Que deliberately lightened his touch.

Meng Ci shook his head and turned away. This guy was actually quite easy on the eyes. He'd been thinking about him for so long-if he didn't make a move now, would they only meet again in the underworld?

At worst, he'd just have to eat and dress more modestly, live a bit tighter.

No time for hesitation. As Shen Que finished dressing Meng Ci's wound and helped him up, Meng Ci feigned a sudden sharp pain and collapsed into Shen Que's arms.

Meng Ci blinked innocently.

"Sorry, I accidentally tugged at the wound just now."

He inwardly marveled at how perfectly this double-door fit his needs.

"No problem." Shen Que helped him sit up.

"If the wound hurts, you should rest at home. I'll handle things for them."

Meng Ci refused. After all, Yun Jingcen and the others were also injured and hadn't rested.

And he was a man was it appropriate for him to stay indoors resting?

Seeing Meng Ci insist, Shen Que couldn't say anything more.

The bodies on the seventeenth floor were mostly dealt with, so Meng Ci and Shen Que

descended to the sixteenth floor.

The two of them carried the bodies out and tossed them over the edge.

After disposing of the bodies, they began collecting rainwater to wash the floor.

Just then, Ruan Qing emerged again, clutching his box.

This time, Duan Yan didn't interfere with Ruan Qing.

Ruan Qing went down to the sixteenth floor and started searching for things.

Noticing him, Meng Ci descended to ask what he was looking for.

"Marbles!" Ruan Qing crouched

down, picking up two bloodstained marbles and tossing them into his box.

These marbles were perfectly round. Earlier, they'd clattered down from the upper floors, and who knew where they'd rolled off to now? Finding them all would be tough.

Ruan Qing nodded. "I know I won't find them all, but I'll gather as many as I can."

Hearing this, Mao Xinyu said, "Since Ruan Ruan wants to look, then please have Meng Ci help him search."

"As for the rest, leave it to us."

Meng Ci's back was injured, and dragging or pulling things could aggravate his wound. Since they'd offered, Meng Ci didn't refuse.

After searching the stairwell, the two went back up to the sixteenth floor to see if any had rolled up there.

After finishing there, they worked their way down floor by floor.

Ruan Qing clutched the box, having ultimately recovered only a little over half.

"Teacher Duan brought this back for me, saying I could play with it when bored."

Some time ago, when Duan Yan and the others had gone out searching for supplies, Duan Yan had brought Ruan Qing back a box of marbles and a board game.

Earlier, during the fight, Ruan Qing had kept watch outside. Seeing those people about to flee, he knew that leaving any loose ends would only invite trouble later.

Therefore, upon spotting the marbles in the room, he had grabbed them and scattered them across the staircase.

Now that the danger had passed, Ruan Qing naturally retrieved the marbles.

Meng Ci heard this and remarked with emotion, "Teacher Duan is truly kind to you."

Hearing this, Ruan Qing paused his ascent up the stairs and complained, "Not at all!"

"Teacher Duan is way too much.

I'm only in my second year of high school, and he's teaching me senior high school physics-that's bad enough."

"He actually dug out a huge stack of university physics textbooks and said he's going to teach me that too!"

"Do you have any idea how thick those books are when stacked up?"

"And Teacher Duan even asked Teacher Yun and the others to find their books too, so they can all teach me together!"

By this point, Ruan Qing's expression was utterly aggrieved.

"Waaah, physics is so hard, I just can't get it!"

Meng Ci had struggled with

freshman calculus back in college, so he understood the pain and offered a suggestion.

"How about I talk to Teacher Duan and ask him to stop teaching you physics?"

"No way." Ruan Qing refused

without hesitation, then clattered up the stairs.

"Professor Duan doesn't want me to be one-sided in my studies. If I stop learning it, he'll be upset."

Meng Ci shook his head upon hearing this. Well, it seemed like this pair were a willing pair. He'd better mind his own business.

Meanwhile, Duan Yan, who had been on his way to find the two of them, heard this and nodded with satisfaction.
