Chapter 159: Shen Que, Can You Go Catch the Panda?

"Duan Yan, Ruan Qing is fine, he's still breathing!"

Fang Shurui laid Ruan Qing flat on the ground and felt his nose for breath.

Feeling the faint breath, he was relieved.

Duan Yan was in tears at this moment, but hearing these words, he nodded.

"That's good, that's good."

"Ruan Qing, Ruan Qing, wake up quickly."

Duan Yan propped himself up, sat beside Ruan Qing, and kept calling his name.

"Ruan Qing, don't sleep."

"Ruan Ruan, Ruan Ruan."

Fang Shurui glanced over to where Meng Ci and the others were; six or seven men had already fallen to the ground, but there were still seven or eight putting up a fierce resistance.

"Duan Yan, I'll go help them."

"You stay here and watch over Teacher Yun and the others," Fang Shurui instructed.

Duan Yan wiped the tears from his face and nodded, saying, "Okay."

Then he saw an axe not far from Mao Xinyu. Duan Yan got up, supporting his right leg, and limped over to pick it up.

Meng Ci and Shen Que, though they had been somewhat lax in their physical training due to the heat, were still formidable.

These few men, who were brave but lacked strategy and relied only on brute force, were no match for them.

Meng Ci even had time to think about why Teacher Yun and the others couldn't handle these few weaklings.

And why they were so badly injured.

Thinking of the teachers' injuries, he decided to end the fight quickly.

A few slashes, each one lethal.

"F**k, don't meddle in our business," the leader, a man in his twenties, spat blood after taking a blow from Shen Que and stepped back, glaring viciously.

Shen Que ignored him and continued advancing with the iron bar.

Fang Shurui and Cheng Yu, both injured, could only attack from behind.

Seeing someone trying to get up, they struck down hard with their sticks.

To ensure they had enough force, they each delivered a few extra blows.

Ten minutes later, the battle was over.

A dozen men lay on the ground, too weak to rise.

Each one was barely breathing.

Meng Ci and Shen Que were unscathed, but they saw how seriously injured Yun Jingcen and the others were.

Especially Cheng Yu and Fang Shurui, who, after knocking down the last man, leaned on their sticks and knelt on the ground, panting heavily.

"Let's take them to the hospital first," Meng Ci said.

Given their current condition, the teachers probably couldn't walk.

Thinking of the rocks on the road, Meng Ci went over and helped Shen Que move them aside.

Then Shen Que drove the SUV over, and the two of them quickly lifted the injured into the vehicle.

Fortunately, the SUV had plenty of space.

Yun Jingcen and Meng Ci sat in the front passenger seat.

While they weren't paying attention, Meng Ci took out a blanket from his storage and spread it in the trunk, then placed Ruan Qing inside.

Ruan Qing was thin, so lying there wasn't cramped.

The remaining four, including Mao Xinyu, squeezed into the back seat.

Shen Que hit the gas, and the SUV sped off.

During the flu outbreak, the authorities had built a makeshift hospital at the foot of West Mountain.

After the flu ended, the hospital wasn't dismantled; instead, many instruments were moved down the mountain, and several tents were set up.

The experts who had developed the vaccine and the doctors and nurses recruited later were stationed there to treat people.

Shen Que and Meng Ci hadn't been there before, but they knew the general direction.

Fortunately, they encountered an official vehicle on the way.

Seeing the severely injured people in their car, the vehicle led the way.

Soon, the car arrived at the hospital.

The soldiers leading the way had clear roles.

Some went to call for a doctor and helped carry out the stretcher, while others assisted Meng Ci and his group in getting the injured out of the car.

Seeing the six people being rushed into emergency care, Meng Ci heaved a sigh of relief.

Among the five soldiers, the man who had been driving approached them.

"Hello, my name is Su Luo."

"I'm mainly responsible for security patrols. Could you tell me what happened to them?"

As Su Luo spoke, he sized up Meng Ci and Shen Que, unsure if their injuries were related to these two men.

Meng Ci was open and explained what he knew.

"We know those six people."

"On our way back, we encountered one of them, who told us that some people were being bullied."

"So we drove over and rescued them."

Su Luo nodded, then checked Meng Ci and Shen Que's residency permits before asking where the fight had taken place. He then hurriedly led the others there.

Meng Ci didn't bother with these matters anymore. He took out his credit card and paid the fees for Yun Jingcen and the others, even pre-depositing a thousand points before leaving with Shen Que.

By the time they drove home, it was already past four in the afternoon.

Entering the basement, they first turned on the central air conditioning, then went into the space to take a shower.

When they came out, the stuffiness in the room had disappeared.

Meng Ci and Shen Que took out two servings of cold noodles, two meat sandwiches, and two bowls of dumpling soup from the space, enjoying their meal.

Thinking about the six people lying in the hospital, Meng Ci pulled out a rabbit from the space, prepared it, and stewed it in a pot. Then he made a pot of white porridge.

He rummaged through the space and took out a serving of juicy eggplant and a few steamed buns.

Then he boiled some spinach he had grown and made a cold spinach salad.

After finishing all this, Meng Ci lay on the sofa, playing with his phone.

"Shen Que, do you think the eggplant has been having fun staying with Uncle Liang these past two days?"

If the eggplant knew that its master had finally thought of it after being out for two days, it would probably be so happy it would spin around several times.

"You can ask it when you get back," Shen Que said, sitting on the floor and continuing to build the panda Lego set.

Seeing this, Meng Ci remembered that he had bought so many Lego sets, yet Shen Que had chosen only a few pandas. Could it be that he liked pandas?

"I wonder if any pandas have survived after such a long time in this apocalypse." Meng Ci sat up straight.

"Shen Que, since you like pandas so much, why don't we go find one?"

"I can grow some bamboo in my space, so we won't have to worry about them going hungry."

Meng Ci felt quite clever as he spoke.

If they could find a pair, wouldn't that be contributing to the protection of a national treasure?

Maybe they could even have a baby panda.

"Pandas, if I remember correctly, are in Province S."

"Even if we drive there, it will take at least two days, assuming the highways are still usable."

"If the highways are damaged, we'll have to take detours."

"And we don't have a map."

Shen Que analyzed rationally, "If you really like pandas, I'll finish building this set, and you can put it wherever you want."

Seeing Shen Que constantly pouring cold water on his idea, Meng Ci had initially wanted to argue a bit.

But hearing Shen Que's words, his temper subsided immediately.

"No."

"Once it's built, I can't even hug it."

Meng Ci realized that under Shen Que's endless indulgence, his temper had become increasingly delicate.
