Chapter 188: In Our Poverty, Here Are Some Points for You

"Knock knock knock!"

"Xiao Ci, I'll see who's at the door. You rest."

Shen Que heard the knocking and reluctantly sat up from bed.

He hastily wiped the sweat from his body and hurried downstairs to open the door.

Meng Ci, lying in bed, heard the knock as well. Since Xiao Ci didn't bark, he assumed the visitor was a familiar face.

Given Shen Que's usually cold demeanor, Meng Ci worried he wouldn't treat the guests well. So, he decided to get up and help entertain them.

"Damn it!"

However, as Meng Ci tried to get up, he inadvertently exacerbated the pain in his waist, causing him to curse aloud.

He fell back onto the bed, feeling secretly vexed.

Hmph!

Meng Ci snorted inwardly, thinking that with Shen Que around, he couldn't care less about these people.

Then, he started to complain. If only the plot of land they bought had been a little larger, they could have built at least two bedrooms.

That way, if they ever had a disagreement, he could send Shen Que to another room.

But upon further thought, the downstairs sofa was quite spacious. If all else failed, he could make Shen Que sleep on the couch.

The sofa was a double-seater, and with Shen Que's long limbs, he would definitely be uncomfortable lying on it. That would serve as a punishment.

The more Meng Ci thought about it, the more practical the idea seemed.

Downstairs, when Shen Que opened the door, he saw Liang Xiu and Zhao Jingyu, holding flashlights.

"Uncle Liang!"

Shen Que was seven years younger than Liang Xiu. At first, he felt awkward calling him 'uncle.'

But after Liang Xiu started calling him 'son-in-law,' he no longer hesitated.

"Son-in-law."

Shen Que led the two inside the house.

Liang Xiu, seeing that the house had power, was quite pleased.

Good, this guy has been somewhat useful and hasn't let the young master suffer.

With this, the ladies in the afterlife can rest assured.

Seeing Liang Xiu examining the lights, Shen Que explained, "This electricity was stored using solar energy. But we don't know how long this sudden polar night will last."

"At least a month," Liang Xiu replied, then handed the plastic bag he was holding to Shen Que.

"These are some candles. Son-in-law, keep them safe, just in case."

Shen Que wasn't surprised that Liang Xiu knew how long the polar night would last. After all, he now works for the government.

Shen Que thanked Liang Xiu for the candles.

"Tsk!"

Zhao Jingyu walked around the yard and then entered the house, looking it over.

"Why did you build your house so small?"

"If you don't have enough points, you can come to me!"

"The house is so small, it's difficult to move around."

Shen Que remained silent. It was true the house was small before the apocalypse, but now, in these end times, having a standalone villa was more than sufficient.

However, since Zhao Jingyu was a guest, Shen Que kept his thoughts to himself.

Of course, Zhao Jingyu was not wrong.

Though not the largest in the base, the Zhao family's villa was still one of the top.

It was understandable that he found their house lacking.

"Or, you could come stay at my place," Zhao Jingyu continued.

"My house has two floors above ground, one below, and the walls are higher than yours, offering much better security."

"Thank you for the kind offer," Shen Que replied coldly.

"There are only two of us, so this size is just right."

Shen Que spoke in his usual manner, regardless of whether Zhao Jingyu's offer was sincere or not.

"Never mind," Zhao Jingyu said, not wanting to push further. He then thought about the over a million points in his account and considered transferring some to Meng Ci.

He knew Meng Ci didn't like owing favors, so asking him directly would definitely result in a refusal.

Since he was Liang Xiu's friend, it wouldn't be right to live in a big villa while they lived in such poor conditions.

"Guye, where's the young master?"

Liang Xiu had been there for quite some time and hadn't seen Meng Ci, which made him wonder, "Could something have happened to him?"

Shen Que touched his nose, showing a slightly embarrassed expression, and said, "He's resting."

As an adult, Liang Xiu naturally understood what "resting" implied at this moment.

He couldn't help but raise his eyebrows, thinking how energetic these two young men were.

But then he remembered that Meng Ci was still underage and said seriously to Shen Que, "Guye, the young master is still young. It's not really appropriate for you two to behave like this... I think you should control yourselves a bit."

After saying this, Liang Xiu also felt a bit awkward. After all, he had never had a girlfriend and had little experience with such matters, possibly even less than Meng Ci.

However, as an elder, he felt it necessary to remind Shen Que.

"Ahem!" Shen Que lightly coughed, indicating that he understood.

Actually, he also felt a bit embarrassed, but since Liang Xiu had pointed out the issue, he should curb his behavior.

Zhao Jingyu, however, was a straightforward person and didn't understand the unspoken messages between them.

Upon hearing that Meng Ci was still sleeping, he couldn't help but comment, "At a time like this, he's still sleeping!"

He then sighed, shaking his head, and gave a sympathetic look at Shen Que.

Clearly, Zhao Jingyu believed in his mind that Shen Que was suffering because of Meng Ci.

He couldn't imagine what could make Shen Que so worn out.

At that moment, Shen Que stood awkwardly nearby, uncertain how to explain the situation.

"It must be difficult for you to support two people on your own!"

Zhao Jingyu intended to pat Shen Que on the shoulder but, seeing his build and remembering that Shen Que preferred men, he decided against it.

"I heard that the officials are setting up electric fences. Out of sympathy for your hardship, I'll help you recharge one thousand kilowatt-hours of power," Zhao Jingyu said generously.

Shen Que fell silent once again.

He wondered if Zhao Jingyu was someone with many points but little sense. Fortunately, Zhao Ting had entrusted Zhao Jingyu to Liang Xiu. If it had been someone else, Zhao Jingyu might not have known how he would meet his end.

"Howl!"

As Shen Que opened the door, Eggplant (the wolf) dashed upstairs.

After getting a chicken leg from his master and massaging his back, Eggplant finally came back down.

Although he had sensed Zhao Jingyu's unfamiliar scent earlier, he remembered that Liang Xiu had given him plenty of food before, and his master treated him well.

Thus, he assumed that the person Liang Xiu brought should not be a bad person.

However, when he came down and saw Zhao Jingyu standing next to Liang Xiu, his alarms went off.

Oh no, this fair-skinned man is standing so close to his master's man, does he have designs on him?

Absolutely not, Eggplant decided that he must protect his master's man.

With that, Eggplant rushed down from upstairs and stood between Zhao Jingyu and Shen Que, growling to tell Zhao Jingyu to stay away from Shen Que.

Initially, Zhao Jingyu thought the creature was a dog, but upon hearing its howl, he realized it was a wolf and quickly hid behind Liang Xiu, who was sitting on the sofa.

"Liang, Liang Xiu, why did you keep a wolf in your house!"

Zhao Jingyu believed that since he was now taking care of Liang Xiu, Liang Xiu should call him "young master," and Meng Ci would be the "former young master."

However, what bothered Zhao Jingyu was that Liang Xiu still didn't use that title.
