Chapter 265: Get Out, or We'll Come In
"Please step outside for a moment," Zhao Jingyu said. He gently held Qiao Moyan's hand when he saw that Qiao Moyan was about to heal Lu Chen, and spoke to the four soldiers who had come in with them.
The four of them looked hesitant.
"If you don't leave, we won't proceed with the treatment."
Zhao Jingyu remembered how Meng Ci and the others had specifically told them not to spread the word about Qiao Shu's healing powers, in order to protect him.
What if these soldiers found out and told others? Given Qiao Shu's soft heart, he would definitely agree to help anyone who asked.
So, Zhao Jingyu insisted they needed to solve the problem at its root.
The four soldiers, taken aback by his words, immediately backed out of the door and closed it tightly.
Qiao Moyan then began his treatment.
Ten minutes later, Qiao Moyan stopped.
Beads of sweat slightly formed on his forehead, but his expression remained mostly unchanged.
Zhao Jingyu had been watching him closely and only relaxed when he saw Qiao Moyan appeared normal.
The two then left the room together. This session hadn't exhausted Qiao Moyan completely, so several more sessions would be needed to fully heal Lu Chen.
The soldiers praised Qiao Moyan's skills and acknowledged that they understood the situation.
As Qiao Moyan and Zhao Jingyu were leaving, Zhao Jingyu suddenly warned the soldiers not to reveal that it was Qiao Shu who had healed Lu Chen.
The soldiers understood the gravity of the situation, nodded vigorously, and promised to keep it completely confidential, not letting a single detail slip.
After receiving their assurances, Zhao Jingyu felt a huge weight lift off his shoulders.
Shortly after they got back home, Meng Ci and Shen Que arrived.
Meng Ci knew that Qiao Moyan and Zhao Jingyu had gone to the hospital. Since one of them didn't have any powers and the other was a healer, he worried about them being targeted if they went out.
So, before leaving, Meng Ci decided to leave Pumpkin and Eagle behind to ensure Qiao Moyan and Zhao Jingyu's safety.
After all, the two were powerful enough to handle the task.
Qiao Moyan and Zhao Jingyu had always been fond of Pumpkin and Eagle, and gladly accepted the arrangement.
When Pumpkin learned that the task was critical, it immediately stood tall and proud, guaranteeing that it would complete the mission perfectly.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital, not long after Qiao Moyan and Zhao Jingyu had left, Lu Chen slowly opened his eyes.
However, due to his severe injuries, his body was still very weak, and he could only lie still on the bed to recover.
Qiao Ya took the opportunity to visit Lu Chen during his free time. As soon as he saw Lu Chen awake, his eyes filled with tears.
When Lu Chen asked about his injuries, Qiao Ya told him about how Meng Ci had brought people over to help.
When Lu Chen heard that the healer would return the next day, he asked Qiao Ya to prepare something to thank the healer. Qiao Ya agreed.
Meng Ci and Shen Que came to see Lü Chen wake up and felt relieved. In the following days, they sometimes joined the group to go out and kill zombies or hunt fierce beasts.
During this time, they also teamed up with Yun Jingcen and others to successfully hunt two mutated wild boars.
Although the changes in the boars were relatively small, their skin had become exceptionally hard, and ordinary psionic attacks could barely cause any damage.
In this situation, Meng Ci took out a can of gasoline and controlled the green plants to pour the gasoline on the boars, after which Shen Que threw a fireball.
The intense flames forced the boars to flee in all directions. After an hour-long chase, they were finally burned to the ground.
Once the boars collapsed, the group swiftly gathered and extracted eight crystal stones, dividing them evenly among themselves, four per person.
Five days later, Lü Chen's injuries were fully recovered. He not only felt physically strong but also noticed a significant improvement in his psionic abilities.
He also knew that Qiao Moyan's use of psionic powers would drain his physical strength.
Thinking about how many psionics had died due to excessive mental energy consumption, he realized that healers' mental energy could also be depleted, so he decided not to draw attention to his rapid recovery.
He gathered everyone from the hospital and the soldiers he had brought, strictly ordering them not to mention his quick recovery.
Though they were confused, they followed his orders without question.
Meng Ci also delivered some supplies, feeling relieved to see that Qiao Moyan's health was improving.
Lü Chen had been carried into the hospital with severe injuries, but now, just days later, he was walking out fully recovered—bound to attract attention.
After discussing with Zhao Jingyu and Liang Xiu, Meng Ci and Shen Que decided to stay at the Zhao family's house for a few days to ensure everything was safe before leaving.
Zhao Jingyu, who liked a lively atmosphere, naturally agreed.
One being his wife and the other the child of his benefactor, Liang Xiu naturally wouldn't refuse either.
After staying at the Zhao family's house for two days, as expected, a group of people came knocking.
Bang bang bang!
"Open the door, where is everyone?"
"Are they not home? Should we just barge in and check?"
"No, what if we offend them and they refuse to treat us?"
...
At this moment, Meng Ci and the other five had come out of the house and stood in the yard, naturally hearing the sounds from outside.
Eggplant and Eagle, their guard dogs, also picked up on the unfamiliar scent and grew tense.
"Liang Xiu, do you think there might be trouble?" Zhao Jingyu asked, looking worried, though his concern wasn't for the visitors.
"What if the vegetables that Uncle Qiao and I worked so hard to grow get trampled?"
"If I had known they were coming today, I would have had Zheng Yan harvest the vegetables to trade for supplies."
Liang Xiu and the others were speechless, wondering how anyone could worry about material things at a time like this.
"Hey, big brother, someone's talking inside."
Thanks to their enhanced hearing, vision, and physical abilities, the psionics easily picked up on Zhao Jingyu's voice.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Open up, or we're coming in!"
Meng Ci and Shen Que exchanged a glance, then made their way to the door.
Liang Xiu told Zhao Jingyu and Qiao Moyan to stay inside before following Meng Ci and the others.
"Woof! Woof!"
Eggplant barked loudly and, after Meng Ci opened the door, rushed out to pounce on the leader.
"Holy crap!"
Panicked, the man stumbled back, momentarily forgetting he had powers to fight off Eggplant, and ended up on the ground.
One of them went after Eggplant, while another turned to Meng Ci and the others.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
Meng Ci crossed his arms and sneered, "Maybe you should ask yourselves what you're doing here."
