Chapter 37 - Thirty_Home (Final Chapter)

Chapter 35 — Home

Adrian didn't wake up thinking it was the last chapter of anything.

It was just another day.

That was the best part.

Nothing felt like an ending.

Nothing felt like something was about to change.

It just felt… steady.

He opened his eyes slowly and stared at the ceiling.

No rush.

No tension.

No weight sitting on his chest.

Just quiet.

He exhaled and sat up, running a hand through his hair.

"…Morning," he muttered to himself.

Not because he had to.

Just because he could.

When he stepped out of his room, the hallway felt familiar.

Not something he had to walk through carefully.

Not something he had to adjust to.

Just… part of where he lived.

He walked downstairs without stopping.

Voices reached him before he even entered the room.

Nico talking.

Dante responding.

Someone laughing.

Normal.

Adrian stepped into the dining room.

"Morning," Nico said.

"…Morning," Adrian replied.

Dante looked at him.

"You're consistent now."

Adrian shrugged.

"…Yeah."

Marco glanced at him briefly.

No questions.

No checking.

Just a nod.

And that was enough.

At breakfast, Adrian didn't sit quietly.

He joined in.

Not trying.

Not forcing it.

Just naturally.

"That's not how it works," he said when Nico said something wrong again.

Nico frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Adrian explained.

Simple.

Clear.

Dante smirked.

"He's right."

Nico leaned back.

"Alright, fine."

Adrian didn't react much.

He just kept eating.

But inside—

It felt different.

Because moments like this used to feel impossible.

Now they didn't.

After breakfast, Adrian stood up.

He grabbed his bag.

Then paused for a second.

"…I'll see you later," he said.

Marco nodded.

"Alright."

That was it.

Adrian didn't hesitate.

He walked out.

Because he knew—

He would come back.

At school, things felt the same.

Steady.

Simple.

He met Mira at the entrance.

"You're early again," she said.

Adrian shrugged.

"…So are you."

She smiled slightly.

"You always say that."

Adrian didn't respond.

He just walked beside her.

After a few steps, she said,

"You seem… lighter."

Adrian thought about it.

"…I think I am."

She nodded.

"Yeah."

No questions.

No pushing.

Just understanding.

During class, Adrian didn't struggle.

He focused.

Answered questions.

Even joked once.

It wasn't loud.

It wasn't big.

But it was enough for a few people to react.

And for the first time—

He didn't feel out of place doing it.

At lunch, things were the same.

Mira sat with them.

Alessio didn't question it anymore.

It was just normal now.

"You're quiet," Mira said.

Adrian looked at her.

"…Not really."

She smiled.

"Not like before."

Adrian nodded slowly.

"…Yeah."

Alessio glanced at him.

"You're different."

Adrian looked at him.

"…In a good way?"

Alessio nodded.

"Yeah."

Adrian leaned back slightly.

"…Okay."

After school, Adrian didn't stay at the gate.

He didn't need to.

He walked out with Alessio.

Mira stopped near the entrance.

"See you tomorrow," she said.

Adrian nodded.

"…Yeah."

She walked off.

Adrian watched her for a second.

Then looked ahead again.

No hesitation.

No second thoughts.

Just moving forward.

Back at the mansion, everything felt the same.

But also—

It felt complete.

Adrian walked in, dropped his bag, and went to the living room.

Not thinking about it.

Not deciding.

Just doing it.

"You're back," Nico said.

"…Yeah," Adrian replied.

Dante glanced at him.

"You're always here now."

Adrian shrugged.

"…I live here."

Dante smirked.

"Fair."

Marco looked at him.

"You do."

That stayed for a second.

Not heavy.

Just real.

Later that evening, they were all in the same room again.

No reason.

No event.

Just together.

Talking.

Arguing.

Existing.

Adrian sat there, listening.

Not feeling like an outsider.

Not feeling like he had to earn his place.

Just… part of it.

After a while, he spoke.

"…I'm staying."

The room didn't go silent this time.

It didn't need to.

Because they already knew.

Marco nodded once.

"Good."

Nico leaned back.

"Obviously."

Dante smirked.

"Took you long enough to say it properly."

Alessio looked at him.

"…Yeah."

Adrian nodded slightly.

"…Yeah."

That was it.

No big reaction.

No dramatic moment.

Just acceptance.

Later that night, Adrian went to his room.

He didn't stand at the door.

He didn't look around.

He just walked in.

Because it was his.

He sat at his desk and opened his notebook.

For the last time.

He stared at the page for a moment.

Then wrote—

I'm home

He paused.

Then added—

I'm not leaving

Another pause.

Then—

I'm okay

He looked at the words.

They didn't feel strange.

They didn't feel like something he might take back.

They felt final.

Not like an ending.

But like something settled.

He closed the notebook slowly.

Not because he was done writing forever.

But because he didn't need it the same way anymore.

He didn't need to remind himself.

He didn't need to convince himself.

He already knew.

When Adrian lay down that night, he didn't think about the past.

Not even a little.

He didn't think about what he had been through.

He didn't think about what could've been.

He just thought about now.

About the house.

About his brothers.

About school.

About the life he was living.

"…I'm home," he said quietly.

And this time—

It wasn't something he was trying to believe.

It was something he knew.

Adrian closed his eyes.

And the silence around him didn't feel empty.

It didn't feel temporary.

It didn't feel uncertain.

It felt safe.

It felt steady.

It felt like something that would still be there tomorrow.

And the day after that.

And the day after that.

For the first time in his life—

Adrian wasn't waiting for something to go wrong.

He wasn't preparing to leave.

He wasn't holding back.

He was just there.

And that was enough.

That was everything.

Because after everything he had been through—

After everything he had lost—

After everything he had learned to face—

Adrian finally had something simple.

Something real.

Something that stayed.

He had a home.

And this time—

It didn't disappear.

It didn't break.

It didn't hurt.

It stayed.

Just like he did.

The End.
