Theodore wasn't at dinner that evening. Priscilla, who was in a gossipy mood, filled her in on all the details.
He had gone horseback riding and had come back drenched.
But that wasn't all…
Priscilla had claimed that she saw him go up the stairs that led to her rooms.
Oh.
She found that incredibly hard to believe but she kept her disbelief to herself.
Priscilla had even gone as far as describing how distraught he looked.
Eve found herself inviting the bubbly woman to dine with her, unable to restrain herself from squeezing every single detail out of her.
"...no one has seen him since, my lady. I do feel bad for him. But if I may ask, did the two of you… fight?"
Fight?
"No, Priscilla. If you ever do get married, you will eventually understand."
The woman blushed crimson. "I am much too in love with this house to ever want to leave. And your husband treats me very well, my lady."
Eve's brows arched up.
"He talks to you?"
