It was comforting to allow herself to cry on someone's shoulder without restraint.
Phillip did not ask her any questions all through the journey, only holding her close as he always did when they were children.
And she had nothing to fear from him because he had confided in her that he had a fancy for his fellow men.
But she had never summoned the courage to tell him about Theodore. He never had nice things to say about him, even when they were little. On a good day, Theodore would be such an arrogant lad, and on bad days, he said much worse.
The tears just would not stop. She wanted to just end her pitiful existence.
But she could not.
Because her mother still needed her whether she admitted it or not. And her unborn sibling needed her too.
Even if no one else did…
"My mother found me a wife." Phillip said, trying to liven the atmosphere with small talk.
She sniffled and looked up at him, wiping at her eyes.
"That is… that is wonderful. What does she look like?"
