Not only had she threatened to leave him, but she also wasn't wearing her wedding ring.

He ran a hand through the hair he had spent a good part of his morning taming.
If she felt that way, then why didn't she say it from the beginning. Why did she lead him to think that it is what she wanted?

Now she had him, she was threatening to leave him…

Perhaps she only wanted him when there were no consequences…
He let out a long sigh. If she wanted to leave, he would let her leave. His earlier outburst might be seen as a threat by her. And the last thing he wanted was for her to see him as a tyrant who imprisoned her.
He would tell her exactly that during dinner.
Dinner was another ordinary affair, although the servants went out of their way to light incensed candles to make the atmosphere more intimate.
