Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 – Something Smells, Part 2

[NAVA HEADQUARTERS]

"Next week is quarter close…which means we will need to file the quarterly 10-K with the investors. What's our quarter looking like?"

The team of analysts and accountants sitting at the table knew what that question meant…it meant, how many mana crystals had been farmed to date.

"Sir, mana crystal yield is consistent with projections…except that we are slightly under the target," a senior analyst replied in a nervous voice.

"How much under?" the CFO asked as he looked around the room.

The room remained silent, unable to meet his gaze or give answer to his question.

The CFO let out an exasperated sigh as he opened his briefcase and pull out a bluish-white rock. At first glance it appeared like an ordinary rock…but upon closer inspection the rock seemed to pulse and vibrate. It radiated a warm pleasant faint light. Holding it felt like holding a miniature sun…and its gentle glow felt like sunlight caressing the skin.

It was a mana crystal.

"Take a close look…this is our future. Not just the future of NAVA, but of the world. This little crystal has the power to change everything…and I mean everything! It already revolutionized the energy sector…its produces far more energy than coal, wind, solar, and even nuclear! On top of all that, the energy is clean! Clean energy with no waste! The best part is…the best part is that we here at NAVA have access to this energy source."

He continued, "this here…what we are doing right here and right now…this is the most important thing you will ever do in your life. This matters! This really matters. Forget about the rest, I need you all to focus and know the numbers inside and out!"

"Sir…our current yield is under by 3%," a nervous accountant answered.

"Ok…alright…let's do the math then. Our quarterly target was 25 million tons of mana crystal. 3% of that would mean we are under by 750,000 tons. Right now, the price per ton of mana crystal is roughly $100,000 US dollars. That means our quarterly sales will be $75 billion short…" The CFO said as he did quick math.

"We can't have that! We can't end the quarter missing the target by $75 billion! We will lose our heads if we do. What are our options to increase production?" The CFO asked in a furious voice as he rose to his feet to address the room.

A confident voice broke the silence in the room.

"Our best option is to run a special event."

The voice continued saying, "for the next 4 days, increase the Nanocoin drop rate…that will incentivize players to complete dungeon raids quicker which will increase mana crystal supply in the short-term." Vesper, the game's Executive Producer said with confidence.

"Yes…yes…I like that…and the players will be hyped. We can get Marketing to make a buzz about it…we can have the press, the media, all the big influencers and all the major social media stars cover the story! A big splash! Special and unique event happening now! This will increase the number of new players, strengthen our player retention rate, and build goodwill with our player base," the CFO said with a devious smirk.

It was a good plan.

"Let me run this by our CEO Morgan Novaris…I will meet with him soon. Good job people," the CFO said as he ended the meeting
