Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Morning After

In the Azure Continent, cultivation was everything. Everyone who touched the Mana Stone at eighteen received cards that determined their potential — one card for the weak, ten for the talented, fifteen for monsters. But potential was only the beginning. Real power came from the Card Awakening Realm, where most people spent years struggling to make their cards listen and respond properly. Then came Card Resonance, where cards began to harmonize with each other and the cultivator's will. Card Fusion allowed multiple cards to merge into stronger forms, though it drained soul energy heavily. Card Dominion was where true control began — commanding cards like extensions of your own body. Higher realms like Card Sovereign were where a single cultivator could shake entire cities, their cards becoming living laws of nature.

Lin Feng was still stuck at the very peak of Card Awakening Realm. His fifteen cards were powerful, but they were raw, hungry, and not fully synchronized. To break through to Card Resonance, he needed something rare — a high-grade treasure from the Lin family's hidden vault, the kind only the direct line could access. Something like the Origin Crystal or the Dao Resonance Orb. Those treasures didn't just give mana. They strengthened the body from the inside out, purified the meridians, and forced the cards to resonate on a deeper level. With one of those, his cards wouldn't just absorb mana faster — they would evolve, their laws becoming clearer, their power multiplying. The Lust card especially would benefit; it could devour the treasure's energy and amplify every other card at once.

His mother, Su Ling, was already far beyond that. Late Card Sovereign Realm at the very least, maybe even brushing Card Immortal. She could have left the Lin clan anytime, could have ruled her own sect. Yet she stayed in that tiny courtyard like a forgotten woman. Lin Feng never understood why.

He disappeared into the night after leaving her room, slipping through the shadows like smoke.

A large group had already gathered near the entrance to the Head's residence.

Lin Hao and Lin Wei stood at the front, faces pale with rage. Behind them, a dozen elders and guards. And at the center — the Family Head himself, silver hair tied back, golden robes immaculate, expression like frozen stone.

They saw him coming.

The crowd parted slightly.

Lin Hao stepped forward first, voice shaking with fury.

"You!" he snarled. "Where is she? Where is my mother?!"

Lin Wei was right behind him, eyes bloodshot.

"You mongrel bastard! You were the last one seen near her pavilion! What did you do to her?!"

The Head raised one hand.

Silence fell instantly.

He looked at Lin Feng — cold, unreadable, but with something darker lurking beneath.

"Lin Feng," he said quietly. "Lady Mei Lin is missing. Her pavilion is empty. No guards. No trace. No body. You were seen leaving there last night."

Lin Feng stopped a respectful distance away.

He bowed slightly — not too deep, not too shallow.

"Family Head," he said calmly. "I was summoned. She wanted to speak with me."

Lin Hao laughed bitterly.

"Speak? You expect us to believe that? You killed her! You mongrel piece of shit!"

The Head's eyes narrowed.

"Enough," he said.

He looked directly at Lin Feng.

"Explain yourself."

Lin Feng met his gaze without flinching.

Red eyes calm. Voice steady.

"She summoned me to threaten me," he said simply. "She called me mongrel. She insulted my mother again. She said I would never be acknowledged. She said I should stay in my place."

He paused.

"Then she dismissed the guards and told me to leave."

The Head's jaw tightened.

"That is all?"

Lin Feng nodded once.

"That is all."

A heavy silence fell over the courtyard.

Lin Wei looked ready to explode.

Lin Hao's fists were clenched so tight his knuckles were white.

The Head stared at Lin Feng for a long moment.

Then he spoke — voice low, dangerous.

"Search the pavilion again. Search the entire compound. Find her."

The elders and guards bowed and scattered immediately.

The Head didn't move.

He kept staring at Lin Feng.

"You will stay here," he said. "Until we find answers."

Lin Feng bowed again — respectful, obedient.

"As you command, Family Head."

As the crowd began to disperse, Lin Feng turned to leave.

But before he could take more than a few steps, a familiar voice called out from the side path.

"Feng'er."

He turned.

Su Ling stood there — simple robes, long black hair flowing, that same gentle, beautiful smile on her face.

She walked over gracefully, ignoring the stares from the remaining disciples and elders.

She stopped in front of him and gently adjusted his collar, like a worried mother.

"You look tired," she said softly, voice full of concern. "Did something happen last night? You can tell your mother anything, you know."

Her hand lingered on his chest — right over the spot where the Sealing Card rested.

Lin Feng looked down at her.

That calm, warm smile.

Those gentle eyes.

That perfect emotional manipulation.

He felt the pull again — the need to confess, to make her proud, to be her good son.

But this time, he pushed it down harder.

"Mother," he said quietly. "Everything is fine."

Su Ling's smile didn't waver.

She leaned up and kissed his forehead — light, warm, motherly.

"Good," she whispered. "My strong boy. Always protecting me."

She stepped back, still smiling.

Then she turned and walked away — graceful as ever.

Lin Feng watched her go.

The gentle, beautiful woman who had raised him.

The powerful cultivator who chose to stay hidden in a tiny courtyard.

The emotional manipulator who could make anyone dance to her tune with just a smile and a soft word.

Suddenly, a young clan member came running from the side path, face pale and sweating.

"Family Head!" he shouted, voice cracking. "The treasure vault… the Origin Crystal is missing!"

The courtyard exploded into chaos.

The Head's face turned ashen.

Lin Hao and Lin Wei whipped around.

Su Ling's gentle smile didn't waver.

But Lin Feng's red eyes gleamed with quiet satisfaction.

The game had truly begun.
