"I can't call Detective Han."
The words left my mouth quietly, but the reaction was immediate.
"What?" Sunoo stared at me like he hadn't heard me properly.
Hyunsuk's expression darkened almost instantly. "What do you mean you can't?"
"I mean exactly that." My throat felt painfully dry. "I'm not doing it."
Silence settled heavily over the room again.
Wonjae scoffed under his breath, leaning back against the sofa. "You've got to be kidding me."
"I'm serious."
Sunoo frowned deeply. "Jisoo… why?"
I looked away from all of them. I was scared. The moment this left this room, everything would spiral out of control.
I already knew people like Yong always won but none of those words came out.
Instead, I forced myself to say, "I don't want to escalate things."
Wonjae let out a sharp laugh. "Escalate?" he repeated. "You think this hasn't already escalated?"
"Wonjae," Sunoo warned softly.
