Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: Dawn of Reckoning

Chapter 60: Dawn of Reckoning

A new day dawned over Oakwood City.

The sun peeked gently over the distant hills, casting golden rays through drifting morning mist. Dew clung to leaves and rooftops, glistening faintly as the city slowly awakened from the silence of night.

Deep within the secluded quarters of Fei Wu, Su Tianhao lay fast asleep—finally enjoying true rest after two brutal weeks in the Dragonspire forest. His breathing was steady, his expression calm. A warrior finally at ease. But while he rested in tranquility, the outside world was anything but quiet.

"Did you hear? The so-called trash of the Su family is actually a terrifying genius with a powerful heavenly constitution!"

"Of course! Everyone and their mother is talking about it."

"I heard he's cultivated an Ancient Mortal rank technique compatible with his constitution—is that true?"

"It's true! With just 1st level Martial Disciple cultivation, he defeated Young Master Wenjie in a single blow!"

"You mean that Wenjie? The Ye family's rising star?"

"Exactly!"

From the market streets to the inner halls of noble estates, Oakwood City boiled with discussion. Every restaurant, inn, tea house, and alley echoed with excited voices spreading the tale like wildfire.

"I heard he can fight people several minor realms above him!"

"That's nothing compared to having a Martial Lord as his master! With that backing, he's unstoppable!"

"The Su family must be choking on regret. He raised himself without a single resource from them."

"To think the talent test said zero measurable talent... What a joke that turned out to be!"

---

Meanwhile, in a spacious chamber on the third floor of the Su family's main residence, a middle-aged man sat on a throne-like chair in quiet contemplation. He was dressed in flowing crimson robes, his long black hair tied in an elegant topknot. He carried a dignified aura befitting his station—but his brown eyes held unmistakable guilt and uncertainty.

He was none other than Su Huiqing. Patriarch of the Su family and Su Tianhao's foster father.

"Tianhao gave everyone quite the surprise," he mumbled quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Looks like we were all wrong about him. Only Fifth Elder Yuan managed to keep faith after everything that happened." His eyes dimmed as he spoke, regret weighing on each word.

"We're his family, yet we couldn't help him in his most desperate times." Su Huiqing smiled wryly, the expression bitter on his dignified features.

"Now that he's secured a Martial Lord as his master, I'm certain he's forged his own path... One the Su family may never walk alongside." He paused—then his lips curled into a genuinely proud smile.

"But I'm satisfied. The little rogue I picked up from that small Willow Creek Town has grown enough to find his own way in the cultivation world."

Su Huiqing rose from his seat, crimson robes billowing around him as he moved to the open window and stared into the distance.

"Good for you... Tianhao."

---

In another chamber on the same floor, the atmosphere was completely different—almost violent in its tension.

A middle-aged man bearing a striking resemblance to Su Huiqing, albeit a few years younger, was trashing the room—his eyes burning with rage and frustration.

WHAM! CRACK!

The sharp sounds of breaking glass and heavy objects slamming against walls resounded throughout the chamber.

Su Liang.

Su Huiqing's younger brother and Second Elder of the Su family.

"Damnit! How can this be?! Su Tianhao, that trash, actually secured a Martial Lord Realm master?!" Su Liang gnashed his teeth in fury after settling his frustration by destroying half the room's furnishings.

"That bastard even possesses a heavenly constitution and an Ancient technique that allows him to fight above his realm?!" His fist clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white, veins bulging visibly across his forehead and temples.

"With his rising strength and status, Jian'er's position within the family will be seriously threatened!" Su Liang's voice carried urgency and desperation as the implications became clear.

He absolutely couldn't allow that to happen.

From the very beginning, he'd never liked Su Tianhao—looking at him with barely concealed disdain. Nothing but an orphan brought into the family. How did he deserve the honored title of Second Young Master?

Although Su Jian wasn't his own biological son, he was his one and only nephew—someone he doted upon and genuinely loved. When he'd first witnessed Su Tianhao's natural talents as a young child, he couldn't help but worry that Su Jian's position would be threatened and had remained wary. But after Su Tianhao's dramatic fall from grace at the talent ceremony, Su Liang had completely disregarded him—looking at the boy with contemptuous pity instead. Now this same child he'd dismissed had returned as an even greater threat than before. How could he not be enraged? How could he not feel desperate?

"The Su family hasn't treated him well in the past... Someone like him holds no debt of gratitude to the clan whatsoever," Su Liang mumbled quietly, a dangerous gleam flickering in his brown eyes like cold fire.

"Since it's like that—he must be removed. No matter what it takes."

His mind, cold and calculating by nature, immediately began weaving schemes without hesitation. Before, the boy had been weak and controllable. But now that the snake had transformed into a dragon... drastic measures would be required.

---

On the first floor of the main residence, a completely different scene unfolded in the family's private library.

A figure sat at the central reading desk with an ancient scroll held carefully in his hands—a handsome man with distinctly scholarly features, dressed in flowing white robes. His piercing brown eyes seemed to see through the very fabric of the world around him.

"So little Tian finally gave everyone the shock they deserved," he muttered with obvious amusement.

"I always knew he was a child destined for greatness. My intuition has never been wrong." A proud smile graced his scholarly features.

"Mei'er will be overjoyed when she hears of your current achievements." The warmth in his eyes was unmistakable as he spoke to empty air.

Su Yuan. Fifth Elder of the Su family—known respectfully as the Scholarly Elder. The Mei'er he mentioned was none other than Su Mei, who had acted as a protective big sister during Su Tianhao's childhood before departing for the Qingyun Sect.

Su Yuan gently closed the scroll in his hands, his contemplative gaze drifting toward the courtyards visible beyond the window.

"True talent is like buried jade—it may remain hidden beneath dust and stone for years, but when it finally sees light, it blinds the world with its brilliance."

He chuckled softly, warmth evident in his tone.

"Let the world speak what it will. The worth of a person is not measured by how early they shine, but by how brightly they endure through darkness."

His voice faded into the quiet rustle of turning pages and the distant cheerful chirping of morning birds—as if even the world itself had paused to listen.

---

A considerable distance away from the main residence, deep within a secluded corner of the sprawling estate, a robust middle-aged man sat quietly in front of a grand building. His figure was solid and firm, silver-streaked black hair lending him a fierce and seasoned presence that spoke of countless battles survived. His sharp gaze rested contemplatively on the morning sunlight filtering through the surrounding trees—calm on the surface, yet clearly thoughtful within.

His sword-like brows were slightly furrowed, as though wrestling internally with matters buried deep within his heart.

In stark contrast to the man's dignified aura, the courtyard stretching before him held no refinement or careful maintenance. Towering trees stood like ancient sentinels, but their leaves had long turned dry and withered—clear signs of neglect and disinterest. Jagged boulders littered the uneven ground, many split cleanly in half or shattered entirely as though cleaved by a powerful force, leaving the once-spacious courtyard feeling crowded and somehow worn despite its size.

"Master!"

A voice called out as the door to the grand building creaked open. The voice belonged to a striking young man with distinctive silver hair and handsome features that carried natural seriousness. He wore elegant silver robes that matched his hair perfectly, his bearing suggesting considerable discipline.

Su Lei. Su Tianhao's friendly rival from their childhood. And his master was naturally Su Minghe—the Third Elder of the Su family.

Hearing Su Lei's voice, Su Minghe snapped out of his contemplative daze and turned to face his prized disciple.

His sharp eyes brightened considerably. "You managed to achieve a breakthrough to the 4th level of Martial Disciple Realm?!"

Su Lei nodded with a satisfied smile, his expression filled with quiet pride. "It's all thanks to the Essence Refinement Pills Master provided."

"Hahahaha! Good! Very good!" Su Minghe laughed heartily with obvious satisfaction and approval.

"I'm glad I could make Master proud," Su Lei said calmly, cupping his fists and offering a respectful bow.

"Hmph! Don't get too cocky just because of this minor breakthrough!" Su Minghe snorted gruffly—though the proud smile plastered across his face completely betrayed his stern words.

Su Lei raised an eyebrow at his master's contradictory behavior.

"You don't know this because you were in closed-door cultivation, but it seems that rival of yours turned out to be truly extraordinary after all." Su Minghe said with an almost mischievous smile.

"You mean Su Tianhao?" Su Lei murmured, confusion plain on his handsome face.

"Yes. I heard he's already reached the Martial Disciple Realm—but not just that. He apparently possesses a heavenly constitution and an Ancient Mortal rank technique that allows him to fight opponents several minor realms above him." Su Minghe paused deliberately, watching Su Lei's increasingly shocked expression with barely contained amusement before dropping the final revelation like a hammer blow. "Also—he's rumored to have secured a Martial Lord Realm master."

"What?!" Su Lei's composure completely cracked.

"Could these just be exaggerated rumors?" he asked skeptically after a moment, his analytical mind catching up. Everything Su Minghe had described seemed completely beyond reason.

"No. It's been confirmed through multiple sources that last night he directly faced both Ye Wenjie and Ye Jianping of the Ye family—and needed only one blow each to defeat them both decisively."

"I see..." Su Lei murmured slowly, his silver brows lowering as the earlier surprise drained from his face.

What replaced it was something far sharper—pure, unwavering battle intent.

A quiet fire ignited behind his eyes. Not jealous envy, not bitter resentment. The thrill of genuine challenge.

"Looks like my rival has finally re-emerged from the shadows," he muttered to himself, a slight competitive smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "I look forward to crossing fists again... and this time, I won't be losing so easily."

Su Minghe watched his disciple's transformation with a knowing, approving glint in his experienced eye. "Good. Let your heart burn with that fire—but ensure your mind remains perfectly calm. The path of sword cultivation is not solely about combat, but also maintaining proper focus and discipline."

Su Lei nodded seriously. "I understand, Master."

---

Similar conversations and murmurs echoed throughout the sprawling Su family estate—from the lofty private dwellings of powerful elders to the modest courtyards of ordinary disciples. Each voice, whether filled with excitement, envy, concern, or calculation, added another thread to the growing storm of attention that was Su Tianhao's dramatic return to relevance.

The name that had once been synonymous with failure and shame now carried weight that made even the most arrogant pause.

And deep in the Fei Wu Quarter, the subject of all this chaos slept on peacefully—blissfully unaware of the waves his actions had created, or the schemes already being woven in the shadows.
