Mark pressed the green button. He held the phone to his ear, his jaw clenching so tightly that the muscles in his face stood out. His eyes never left Seren, who was still kneeling on the floor, trembling under her husband's piercing gaze.
Silence.
There was no answer on the other end. Mark waited for a few seconds. However, all he heard was an unsettling void. Suddenly, the phone's screen flashed twice before going completely dark. The call had been disconnected.
Mark pulled the phone away from his ear. He was certain the caller had deliberately hung up the moment he heard his threatening baritone voice. Mark assumed that Seren's other man didn't have the guts to face him directly.
Mark flung the phone onto the sofa, right next to Haelyn's feet. The dull thud made Seren jump.
"Coward," Mark hissed. "He didn't even dare speak when he realized your husband had picked up. How many men do you keep out there that they know exactly when to hang up?"
