Mark turned his head slowly, holding his left cheek, which felt hot and throbbing from the slap that had just landed on it.
His vision, which had been blurry, gradually began to focus on the figure in front of him. The woman wasn't Seren, but his secretary.
Instead of apologizing for his brutal action, Mark took a step back. With a blank stare, Mark told the woman to leave his office.
"Get out!" Mark said softly.
His secretary didn't argue. Still breathing heavily from panic, she immediately turned around and walked out of the room without daring to look back. Leaving Mark alone in the room, once again enveloped by the silence of the night.
