Just as the agency owner was about to kick Mark out again, an office staffer ran out of the back room looking panicked. "Boss! Our backup courier has run off too! Today there's a surge of hundreds of express packages piling up in the front warehouse. If they aren't delivered this afternoon, our company could face a huge penalty from headquarters!"
The agency owner cursed loudly, stubbing out his cigarette in frustration. He glanced at the towering pile of packages, then shifted his gaze back to Mark, who was still standing frozen in place, full of hope. Faced with a truly desperate situation and a shortage of staff, the owner finally snorted in resignation.
"Damn it. Fine, I'll hire you! But remember, your pay will be cut by twenty percent from the normal rate because you're slow. And if even one package gets damaged or is late, you won't get paid at all! Got it?!" the agency owner snapped.
