Chapter 15 - Mission VII

Rebecca arrived at just the right time. She grasped the combat situation instantly, merely by observing Kaelan's position for a brief moment.

She knew that the girl Kaelan was facing was a stage two Os Medulla. However, her focus was on Reynold's absence.

It was impossible for Reynold to simply abandon Kaelan. The possibility that first crossed Rebecca's mind was that Reynold had been trapped.

Yet, after seeing Kaelan consciously seeking help, Rebecca understood that Kaelan was not in collusion. A small spark of trust began to grow. Of course, Rebecca would not fully accept Kaelan just because of this minor incident.

"A nuisance has arrived," Bovoy looked toward the other direction. "It seems that woman was killed. Let it be; she was going to die according to plan anyway."

Bovoy appeared indifferent. He seemed insane, yet remained rational. His actions were no longer reckless or blindly aggressive.

"Hah, do you have no respect for the lives of your comrades at all?" Reynold said, his voice sounding cold. "You people are worse than monsters."

Bovoy only smiled casually. "Death is heaven. She will merge with the curse and become a monster. That is how the curse establishes the laws of nature."

Whatever comes from nature shall return to it. Eternal Darkness was more like a sect with a blind faith in calamity.

"You're even more annoying than the Church!"

Hearing Reynold equate him with the Church of Redemption, Bovoy was deeply displeased.

"Do not compare us to that troop of monkeys!" Bovoy snapped, flicking his cloak. "They are fools who believe the curse is a punishment rather than a blessing!"

The Church and Eternal Darkness both accepted the existence of curses, but their ideologies and perspectives were diametrically opposed. That was why the two would never get along.

Meanwhile, the Radiant Covenant strove to seek the light and eliminate curses. The Outcasts, on the other hand, were very gray; it was unclear what they believed in.

"You are just as bad. For that, we will eliminate you!"

As Bovoy attempted to take something from his pouch, Rebecca did not stay idle. She ran swiftly and thrust her sword.

Bovoy gasped and conjured a wall of flesh to block her path. However, Rebecca never actually crossed it; as if vanishing, she was already in the air, stabbing her sword downward.

"Die!" Bovoy created numerous blood needles and prepared to fire them. But he grew careless for a split second, forgetting that Reynold was still standing tall.

"ORRAA!" Reynold threw his hammer with all his might.

The hammer struck Bovoy's previous flesh wall, easily shattering it and hitting him squarely in the stomach.

Bovoy spat out blood; his ribs were likely broken from the hammer's powerful impact.

"You are the one who will die."

Rebecca remained calm as she swung her sword. She spun and aimed directly for the neck without a hint of hesitation in her movements.

However, Bovoy was certainly not going to give up easily. He had just spat out blood, and that was a weapon for a Sangu Carna proficient in controlling blood and flesh.

He covered his neck with blood and flesh, reinforcing it so that Rebecca's blade could not decapitate him. Nevertheless, the heavy impact of Rebecca's strike shook him violently.

Bovoy staggered for a moment. He glared at Rebecca and Reynold with pure hatred.

"Reynold, Rebecca!" A panting Drake began to pull a black stone from his pocket.

Kaelan, who had arrived with him, had already created dense beads of blood, enabling him to fire with great force.

"Useless!" Bovoy cursed in frustration as he slammed his foot onto the ground.

The black veins on his face twitched slightly. His wounded body began to heal rapidly. Unfortunately, Bovoy was unable to instantly mend his broken ribs.

Sangu Carna could only help bones heal faster, but not instantly like the restoration of blood and flesh.

"The most disgusting thing about the Radiant Covenant is their sheer numbers!"

Bovoy was surrounded. He realized there was almost no way left to win the battle.

"Surrender peacefully," Reynold said. "At least you won't suffer."

Reynold held a deep fire of hatred toward Eternal Darkness. He wanted to finish Bovoy down to the bone, but Reynold remained rational.

He understood priorities. It was rare to have the chance to capture a member of Eternal Darkness alive. They would be able to extract valuable information from Bovoy later.

"Cuih!" Bovoy simply spat and gave a mocking smile. "I would rather destroy my own head than hand it over to others."

Without hesitation, Bovoy threw three small marbles onto the ground, which released a very thick black smoke.

"Get back!" Rebecca sensed the danger. However, it wasn't from the smoke, but the attack following the plume.

Kaelan immediately created a lump of flesh, shielding himself and Drake beside him.

Hundreds of blood needles shot out wildly. They couldn't see them at all because of the thick black smoke.

"Hahaha, I shall take my leave today," Bovoy laughed as his voice gradually faded. "Let us meet again when the storm arrives!"

Drake, already holding the black stone, immediately used it. "Wind!"

A gust of wind instantly swept the area, and the black smoke vanished quickly into the air. Looking at the spot where Bovoy had stood, the man was nowhere to be found. Bovoy was gone.

He had vanished just as the black smoke was swept away by the wind. Reynold tried to use his sharp senses to track him, but he found nothing.

"Damn it!" Reynold felt frustrated for a moment before looking at Kaelan. "Are you alright?"

Kaelan gave a wry smile. "No. If I hadn't met Drake, I would have definitely lost."

He explained that he realized he wouldn't win the fight. His opponent was far more skilled and experienced. Ultimately, Kaelan's choice was to stall for time while heading toward the meeting point with Rebecca and Drake.

Reynold nodded with satisfaction. "Know yourself and your enemy, and you will win a thousand battles!"

His mood changed quickly, or perhaps he was just hiding it. Regardless, Kaelan was glad nothing terrible had happened.

"Why was that madman near the city?" Rebecca asked as she sheathed her sword.

"They must have a sinister plan!" Drake concluded.

Reynold nodded. "Kaelan and I crossed paths with them by accident."

Kaelan simply nodded. "They have a purpose. Maybe... that strange-looking grave."

Kaelan remembered the two Eternal Darkness members talking near the grave. He was quite interested in that grave. Not because of Eternal Darkness, but because Kaelan himself had come from a grave.

Perhaps there was some kind of connection between him emerging from a grave and Eternal Darkness. Kaelan wanted to investigate it directly and thoroughly.
