"What is this..."
The pursuing marines paled in shock. They stared at Lius as though they were looking at a monster.
The mental impact swept over them like a tidal wave the very next moment.
Several weak-willed soldiers collapsed into the sand and lost consciousness.
A few stubbornly held their ground. Garp's lieutenant stood among them.
"It is exactly as sir Garp predicted. What an incredible Conqueror's Haki!"
He drew his sword and leveled the blade at Lius. "But we are marines! We will never be intimidated by pirates!"
"I will stake the name of justice to bury you wicked pirates right here."
He led the remaining handful of marine soldiers in a fearless charge against Lius.
Clack!
They kicked off the air to execute Moonwalk. Leaving the undulating desert dunes behind, they took to the sky to pursue their target.
Their fearless momentum was a stirring sight.
Swish!
Fighting against the crushing pressure of Haki, the marines moved in a blur and appeared directly above Lius.
"I told you to get lost."
Lius locked his calm gaze onto their descending figures.
Buzz!
A boundless and majestic pressure erupted from his body in an instant. Golden arcs of electricity danced within the explosive aura.
The energy materialized into a roaring lion in the void before pouncing fiercely at the airborne marines.
The turbulent desert dunes completely settled into a dead calm a second later.
Boom!
A deafening explosion echoed into the clouds.
The desert ground collapsed by half a meter within a hundred-meter radius of Lius. The immense gravity dragged the descending marines straight into the sand.
Billowing dust surged into the sky. The massive commotion rippled all the way to the distant town and drew the attention of countless residents.
Lius had yet to actually throw a single strike. Merely unleashing his Conqueror's Haki had already caused such a terrifying spectacle.
It was a sight that defied belief unless witnessed firsthand. The spectacle caused Garp to put on a grim expression as he stood within the wall of fire.
He had anticipated Lius possessing an incredibly strong Conqueror's Haki, but he never expected it to be this outrageous.
How could a mere brat possess such overwhelming Conqueror's Haki?
As a marine hero who had conquered the seas for a lifetime, he had encountered countless legendary overlords. Yet he struggled to think of anyone who could suppress this boy in terms of Conqueror's Haki alone.
Not even his lifelong rival, Pirate King Roger, could achieve such a feat. It was completely absurd!
He muttered under his breath with a heavy gaze. "What a crazy monster."
He threw a heavy punch in the next moment. The strike dispersed Ace's flames and slammed squarely into the boy's actual body.
Boom!
The immense power forced a miserable scream out of Ace. He shot backward like a fired cannonball and crashed violently into the distant dunes. He rolled across the sand in agonizing pain.
The gale generated by the punch even snuffed out the surrounding wall of fire.
Thud, thud, thud.
Garp stepped out from the dissipating flames. He stared at Lius in the distance with a grim expression.
Lius tilted his head to meet the old marine's stare. "Nami, go on ahead without me!"
Nami gave a resolute nod.
She grabbed Vivi by the arm and sprinted toward the town without a single backward glance.
Whatever lingering hope she held onto had been completely shattered by reality. Even a Logia type ability user like Ace failed to stall the enemy for more than a few seconds. This old marine possessed a despair-inducing strength!
"Will they really be fine?" Vivi glanced back with wide worried eyes.
"Probably not. But the only thing we can do right now is get as far away as possible. That way Lius and Ace can focus entirely on the enemy!"
Nami flashed a wink at the princess. "Besides, you shouldn't underestimate Lius. He had to endure legendary and hellish training just to earn the right to set sail!"
Vivi and Igaram exchanged surprised looks.
The master and servant duo chose to trust Nami's confidence. They both understood that staying behind would only turn them into dead weight.
.......
Fierce winds tore across the desolate desert and whipped yellow sand into the sky.
"Oh, I suppose that little girl with the long blue hair is the princess of this country?"
Garp peered over Lius's shoulder to watch the fleeing girls. He let out a booming laugh. "You kids are quite bold. To think you'd actually dare to kidnap a nation's princess!"
He came to a halt twenty meters away from Lius.
"Hey, what are you talking about, old man? Who kidnapped anyone?"
Ace staggered to his feet in the distance. He clutched his forehead and hollered his protests at Garp.
"Oh? Is that not the case?" Garp asked.
"We are pirates. There is nothing surprising about us kidnapping a nation's princess. We might even kidnap the entire country while we are at it!"
Lius chimed in with a deadpan expression before Ace could answer.
Ace blinked in realization. A look of profound understanding washed over his face.
"So I did not wrongly accuse you!" Garp's gaze darkened into a fierce glare.
He shifted his attention to the fire user and adopted a stern, grandfatherly tone. "Ace, come back with me right now. Join the marines. Everything you have done up until now can be completely forgiven!"
Lius remained silent. He merely threw a sidelong glance at his companion and waited for the boy to answer.
"What a joke. I have no interest in becoming a marine! Besides, I already have a bounty on my head. Even if I agreed, the world government would never accept it!"
Ace let out a bitter laugh. His very existence was destined to be rejected by the world. If the world government ever discovered his true identity, they would use every means possible to capture him alive just to execute him publicly before the entire world.
Garp erupted in anger.
"You can distrust the world government all you want. But are you telling me you don't even trust your own grandfather?"
Despite his seemingly careless personality, the old man had his own shrewd way of handling matters.
Even Lius had to admit the sheer persuasive weight behind Garp's words.
Ace was the son of Roger. If he set sail as a pirate, only to be reformed under the guidance of a marine hero and ultimately abandon his wicked path to join the side of justice...
It would undoubtedly strike a devastating blow to the era-defining influence Roger had left behind at his death.
"Stop joking around! I will never agree to that!" Ace roared through gritted teeth.
"Oh, fine then!" Garp gave a solemn nod. He turned his piercing gaze back onto Lius. "Kid, do you have any idea who Ace really is? Associating with him will bring you nothing but endless disaster!"
"Take my advice. Until you possess enough strength to protect yourself, you should cut all ties with him!"
"Grandpa... you..." All the color drained from Ace's face.
"Ace, you know perfectly well that my words ring true if you insist on becoming a pirate." Garp didn't even bother looking back. He kept his eyes fixed entirely on Lius and flashed a fierce grin. "Kid, do you want to know the truth about Ace's past?"
An oppressive and eerie silence immediately descended over the desert terrain!
