Kai stood frozen on the sidewalk, his eyes locked on the two figures walking side by side up ahead.
Ame with her slightly messy side ponytail, and Ren walking next to her with a relaxed stride. They were pretty close, like people who already knew each other well.
What's their relationship? Why did Ame call him "Brother Ren"?
Kai's thoughts spun fast.
He remembered his brief encounter with Ame back in Wynwood. That girl looked a lot like Mimi, his little sister from his previous life.
But now, seeing Ame walk together with Ren made his chest feel tight. Not jealousy, at least not in a romantic sense. More like a protective feeling that just came out of nowhere, as an older brother.
Kai shook his head slowly, then started following them from a safe distance. His steps were light, hands still in his jacket pockets.
