Chapter 59: The Locust Fish King, a Thousand Year Second Ring
"Teacher, that's the one."
Chen Ming gritted his teeth, rage and killing intent surging violently in his heart.
Even without a target to vent it on, Chen Ming's expression twisted uncontrollably, and his entire body trembled from the intensity of his anger.
"Calm down. Anger is fine, but do not let it control you."
Seeing Chen Ming on the verge of Qi Deviation, Zhang Peng grabbed him and threw him into the Cultivation chamber. Stimulated by the chamber's environment, Chen Ming gradually calmed down.
"Teacher, I remember."
Chen Ming took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and adjusted his state of mind. Only then did he nod.
"Good. Then let's set off."
Zhang Peng said no more. He wrapped Chen Ming in his power, and the two transformed into a shadow, merging into the beast spirit as they left the Holy Spirit Cult's territory through its complicated underground passages.
Chen Ming was originally from the Heavenly Soul Empire. After the Heavenly Soul Empire's experts suppressed the Locust Fish disaster, most of the Locust Fish were brought under control, while the remaining small swarms gradually drifted toward the lands between the Star Luo Empire and the Sun Moon Empire.
Whether the Heavenly Soul Empire truly lacked the ability to wipe them out or had deliberately driven these plague carrying creatures toward its neighbors was hard to say. Regardless, it saved Zhang Peng and Chen Ming a great deal of travel time.
With the speed of a Super Douluo, Zhang Peng did not spend long on the journey. Before long, the two arrived at the location where the Locust Fish swarm had appeared.
It was a special, small swarm made up of tens of thousands of Locust Fish gathered together.
Compared to the ordinary Locust Fish swarms that blotted out the sky, this one was pitifully small. However, these Locust Fish were somewhat different from the ordinary ones.
Each individual was already a ten year Spirit Beast, with a small number having reached the hundred year level. Their average size was far larger than ordinary Locust Fish, each one about the size of an adult's palm, and every single one emitted a yellow green dust.
If only one or two were looked at in isolation, the amount of dust each Locust Fish released was negligible. But when tens of thousands gathered together, they formed a strange barrier.
To Chen Ming, who had already awakened the Abomination Martial Soul, the nature of that barrier was obvious at a glance. It was essentially a poisonous fog formed from a unique blend of plague and toxin.
Sensing the arrival of outsiders, the Locust Fish swarm, which had been in a strange dormant state, immediately stirred.
A gigantic creature rose from the center of the swarm, flapping its wings into the air.
Yes, a creature.
Not a Locust Fish, nor a fish, but a true monster.
It was over a meter long, shaped like some twisted combination of fish and snake. Its slender body had four appendages resembling chicken claws, along with a pair of insect like wings.
Its overall color was earthy yellow. The scales on its body stood up and interlocked together, forming something like a set of armor. Its tail was bright red like fresh blood, and on top of its head was a small protrusion resembling a crown, making it look extraordinarily bizarre.
At a glance, its appearance bore a strong resemblance to the Fearsome Beast from the Classic of Mountains and Seas in Chen Ming's previous life, yet it was still far inferior to that true strange beast. It was obviously too immature.
Although insect type Spirit Beasts were widely recognized as some of the least intelligent beings among Spirit Beasts, only barely above plant type Spirit Beasts, there was a clear glint of cunning in this monster's eyes. It was far brighter than an ordinary Thousand Year Spirit Beast, almost comparable to a Ten Thousand Year one.
No wonder this thing had become the king of the Locust Fish.
Originally, Chen Ming had thought the Locust Fish King was merely a larger and more powerful version of ordinary Locust Fish. Only now did he realize the difference between them was like heaven and earth.
"Kun, kun!"
The Locust Fish King opened its mouth and let out a strange cry. Instantly, the entire swarm moved.
Dark yellow light bloomed from every Locust Fish, and the scale dust spread even more densely. Under the collective force of tens of thousands of Locust Fish, a strange field was activated.
The power of the Locust Fish King spread to each individual Locust Fish, and every Locust Fish further stimulated its own power based on that foundation. What ultimately formed was a special pseudo Domain that was not quite a true Domain.
The power contained within that field was desolation and pestilence, a force that ordinary life forms would never want to touch and could not afford to touch.
The entire swarm surged toward Zhang Peng and Chen Ming.
Every Locust Fish was wrapped in the power of desolation and pestilence. Once it struck a target and exploded, it would be like a filthy bomb detonating on the body. For an ordinary person, it would be extremely difficult to maintain their condition while resisting such negative energy.
With the leadership of the Locust Fish King, a swarm of this size could even hunt down an ordinary Ten Thousand Year Spirit Beast.
But Zhang Peng merely lifted his head slightly.
An illusory Evil Orca appeared out of nowhere. The air itself became viscous, as if it had turned into seawater, under the influence of the Evil Orca beast spirit. Darkness, water, and Spirit attributes intertwined, turning the entire surrounding space sticky and heavy like a swamp.
The Locust Fish were forcibly gathered together, and then the enormous phantom of the Evil Orca crashed straight into them.
Like dust being wiped away by an eraser, every Locust Fish struck by the Evil Orca vanished completely, leaving behind not even a trace of remains.
This was without the beast spirit displaying its full power.
After all, it was a seventy thousand year beast spirit. Dealing with a swarm whose strongest members had only reached the Thousand Year level was far too easy.
The pseudo Domain was violently torn apart. The Locust Fish swarm was annihilated in an instant, and the Locust Fish King itself was battered half to death by the Evil Orca's energy. Its bizarre body spasmed weakly on the ground, clearly on the verge of death.
"Go. Finish it."
With a wave of Zhang Peng's hand, Chen Ming rushed forward without hesitation.
He did not use any weapon. He directly summoned his Martial Soul and bit down hard on the Locust Fish King's head.
Although it carried the bloodline of a strange beast from the Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Locust Fish King was not a Spirit Beast specialized in physical strength. In a single bite, Chen Ming crushed its snake like skull and swallowed it whole.
A purple spirit ring slowly rose from the remaining corpse.
"Three thousand seven hundred years? Slightly higher than I expected, but still within acceptable range."
Zhang Peng muttered to himself, then took a small box from his spirit tool and tossed it to Chen Ming.
Chen Ming opened it and found a pitch black medicinal pill inside.
"This is the Heavenly King Heart Protecting Pill from the Cult. Its medicinal power can protect the heart Meridian and important Meridians. It does not greatly raise the upper limit for spirit ring absorption, nor does it provide much help against mental shock, but it is extremely effective when absorbing Hundred Year and Thousand Year spirit rings."
"Do not worry. This thing contains no human components. It is made entirely from Spirit Beast materials. Moreover, every raw ingredient in it comes from rare Spirit Beasts."
