Chapter 28 - A Familiar Face

The security room was silent.

Emily couldn't take her eyes off the blank screen.

"That face…" she whispered.

Alexander turned toward her immediately.

"You recognized someone."

It wasn't a question.

Emily hesitated.

Her heart was beating fast.

"I'm not sure," she said slowly.

"But it felt… familiar."

Alexander studied her expression carefully.

"Think," he said. "Anyone from your past?"

Emily closed her eyes for a moment.

Faces flashed through her mind.

Childhood memories.

Faded images.

Voices she could barely remember.

Then suddenly—

Her eyes opened.

"There was someone," she said.

Alexander stepped closer.

"Who?"

Emily frowned, trying to piece it together.

"When I was younger… before I moved to the city… there was a man who used to visit."

Alexander's expression sharpened.

"A relative?"

"I don't know," Emily admitted. "He wasn't family. At least… not officially."

The room grew tense.

"What do you remember about him?" Alexander asked.

Emily took a deep breath.

"He always came late in the evening."

"He never stayed long."

"And every time he saw me…"

She hesitated again.

"It felt like he was… watching me. Studying me."

A chill ran through the room.

Alexander's voice lowered.

"Do you remember his face?"

Emily shook her head slowly.

"Not clearly."

She looked back at the screen.

"But the person in the video… felt like him."

Before Alexander could respond—

The door suddenly opened.

Daniel walked in.

Calm. Composed. As if nothing had happened.

Alexander's eyes turned cold instantly.

"I thought you left."

Daniel gave a small smile.

"I did."

He stepped inside anyway.

"But I had a feeling something interesting would happen."

Alexander didn't hide his irritation.

"You're not welcome here."

Daniel ignored the comment and looked at the screen.

"So… you saw the footage."

Emily stepped forward slightly.

"You knew something like this would happen, didn't you?"

Daniel looked at her.

"For someone to go that far to stop a DNA test…"

He paused.

"…it means the truth is dangerous."

Alexander crossed his arms.

"Or it means someone is desperate."

Daniel nodded.

"That too."

Then his gaze shifted back to Emily.

"You said the face looked familiar."

Emily's eyes narrowed slightly.

"How did you know that?"

Daniel smiled faintly.

"Because if it didn't… you wouldn't look this unsettled."

Emily didn't respond.

Because he was right.

Daniel walked closer to the screen.

"There's something else you should consider."

Alexander spoke sharply.

"Get to the point."

Daniel turned.

"What if the person behind this isn't just someone from the Knight family?"

The room went quiet.

Emily frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Daniel's voice dropped slightly.

"What if it's someone connected to you?"

Emily felt her stomach tighten.

"That's not possible."

But even as she said it…

She wasn't completely sure.

Daniel continued calmly,

"You said there was a man from your past."

Emily didn't answer.

"What if he never stopped watching you?" Daniel added.

A cold silence followed.

Alexander stepped forward.

"That's enough."

His tone was firm.

"You're making assumptions."

Daniel shrugged slightly.

"Maybe."

He turned toward the door.

"But I suggest you don't ignore the possibility."

Before leaving, he looked at Emily one last time.

"Because if I'm right…"

His voice became quieter.

"…then this isn't just about the Knight family."

He paused.

"It's about you."

The door closed behind him.

Silence filled the room again.

Emily stood still.

Her thoughts spinning.

Because deep down…

She couldn't shake the feeling that Daniel might be telling the truth.

And if he was—

Then the danger surrounding her…

Had been there long before she ever met Alexander.
