Chapter 64 - Surrounded

Emily's chest heaved as she stood behind Alexander, her hands shaking. Her glowing eyes flickered, tiny sparks dancing across her fingertips.

Victor's soldiers formed a perfect circle around them, weapons aimed and ready. The hum of the helicopter blades above made the forest feel even more surreal, like they were trapped in a nightmare she couldn't wake from.

Victor's calm smile made her blood run cold.

"You always have a way of getting yourself into trouble, Emily," he said smoothly. "And yet… somehow, I find it… entertaining."

Alexander stepped forward, putting himself between her and Victor. "You're not taking her." His voice was sharp, controlled, and deadly.

Victor's eyes flicked toward him. "Ah, Alexander Carter. Always the hero. Always rushing in without thinking." He tilted his head slightly, scanning Daniel. "And you… Daniel, always two steps behind. I expected more from someone who claims to protect her."

Emily felt panic rising. "Alexander, what do we do? There are too many of them!"

Alexander's jaw tightened. He glanced at her, giving her a quick nod. "Emily… trust me. Stay calm. Stay with me."

Victor laughed lightly. "Stay calm? How cute. You think you can survive this?"

Emily swallowed hard, feeling the energy inside her stir. She could feel it pulsing again, reacting to the tension, the fear, the threat. Her vision blurred slightly as her glow flared.

Victor's eyes narrowed. "Ah… there it is. The power that makes you so special. I've been waiting for this moment."

Alexander noticed it too. He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Emily… focus. Not on fear, not on anger. Focus on control. Only you can turn this around."

Emily nodded slightly, drawing in a shaky breath.

Suddenly, one of Victor's soldiers lunged forward. Alexander moved like lightning, blocking the attack and sending the soldier crashing into another. But the others pressed in relentlessly.

Daniel grabbed a fallen branch from the forest floor and swung it, knocking two soldiers off balance. The three of them worked together like a storm, but the enemy outnumbered them.

Victor's smile never wavered. "Impressive. But this ends now."

He snapped his fingers. Instantly, more soldiers emerged from behind the trees, flanking them. Emily's heart sank. They were completely surrounded.

Emily felt her chest tighten. The energy inside her surged violently. Sparks flew across her skin, making the soldiers step back instinctively. Her hands glowed brighter.

Victor raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Ah… so the rumors were true. She's powerful. But is she strong enough?"

Emily closed her eyes, trying to calm the surge. She remembered Alexander's words: focus, control, only you can turn this around.

She took a deep breath. Slowly, the glow became steadier. She could feel her power, not as chaotic as before, but controlled. Every step, every movement around her responded to her. Trees trembled slightly, rocks lifted from the ground, hovering.

Victor's expression shifted from amusement to concern. "Interesting…"

Alexander gave her an approving nod. "That's it, Emily. Show them what you can do—without losing control."

Emily opened her eyes fully. The soldiers froze. Some even stumbled backward instinctively. She extended her hands, directing the invisible force outward. A wave of energy radiated from her, pushing back the soldiers just enough to create breathing space.

Victor's eyes widened. "So… she's learning control faster than I anticipated."

Emily's confidence grew. She focused all her attention on Victor. "Leave us alone!" she shouted.

The energy surged, stronger than ever. Branches snapped in the forest. Rocks hovered, spinning in the air like knives. Victor stepped back, clearly impressed but unshaken.

"You're strong… but are you ready for me?" he said coldly. "I've waited a long time for this."

Before Emily could react, Victor pressed a button on a small device clipped to his belt. Suddenly, hidden mechanisms in the forest sprang to life.

Metal cages shot out from the ground, surrounding them tighter. The soldiers advanced, encircling Emily and her protectors completely.

Emily's heart pounded. They were trapped.

Alexander's eyes narrowed. "Emily… you have to trust yourself now."

Her glow flared brightly. She felt a new determination surging through her—anger, fear, and courage blending into something unstoppable.

Victor's smile faded slightly. "Oh, this is going to be… interesting."

Emily inhaled sharply, centering herself. The energy around her pulsed and grew. The trees bent slightly toward her as if acknowledging her power. The air itself seemed to hum.

She opened her eyes and let out a roar—not of fear, but of strength.

The forest seemed to answer her call. Leaves, rocks, and branches lifted, spinning violently around her. The soldiers were forced back, tripping over roots and debris. Victor's eyes went wide, his confident smirk faltering for the first time.

Emily had finally taken control.

Alexander put a hand on her shoulder again. "That's it… keep it controlled."

Victor's voice grew colder. "This isn't over, Emily. Not by a long shot."

But for the first time, Emily felt something she hadn't felt in a long time: power and control. She was no longer just running from danger. She was ready to fight back.

And she was ready to survive.
