Cherreads

Chapter 8 - chapter seven

The moment he saw me, he looked flustered, shocked, worried...a whole myriad of emotions. He raised his neck to look behind me then scanned my body before looking... relieved? Why is he relieved when I haven't even begun asking questions?

"Why are you here? Why are you even in a suit? Do mom and dad know?"

"So, the suit is more shocking?"

"Why are you here?"

"Heard you were locked up, came in to save your ass."

"Mom and dad?"

"Somewhere with no signal."

It's still week one but I hope they aren't at getting another sibling...though they should be in menopause, right? But does that change anything...or maybe they aren't in their good menopause years...Damn! What am I even thinking?

He looks relieved knowing they weren't here...queer!

"What of Jennifer?"

"Still being a stand in CEO. What did you tell her to make her agree to that by the way?"

For scientific purposes.

Jenny didn't like being boss. She'd wanted to be a recluse writer or something...

Something that didn't need people, boardrooms and all that.

"That once I get back I'll take over completely."

"She believed you?"

"No, but we agreed on a three month holiday."

And you believed her, their goes my science subjects. She was pretty good at hiding so he had a task three months later. One that I wasn't going to get involved in... unless it had something to do with this kind of issue.

At that time it will be called retrieval.

"She was pregnant."

"W-What?"

You just don't throw out this kind of shit about someone who run away. Or maybe it was the reason for the running.

"Name?"

"Sabrina Faldress... don't worry, I realized she had lied to me after I came to this country."

"No shit!"

I realized it the moment he said that name. The Faldress family has a legion of descendants, Sabrina was the little princess of the main family. Him and her... totally not that easy to come by... not that I am looking down on him or anything.

"A photo or something?"

For some reason, he was no longer asking questions. I guess that could mean a lot... hoping that none of them was that he'd driven into some hole.

Okay, pretty but definitely not from the Faldress family... didn't he think to even search? The internet carried a huge load mostly for people who wanted to show a good deal of their extravagance. But I also don't want to go checking into Blane's background so understandable.

I send the photo to Wales my secretary and sit opposite him waiting.

"When?"

"What?"

"When did you get a great sit in country R?"

"Not that much of comfortable one. Before coming here you should have done your research."

"And I'll get something on you from that?"

"No!"

I turn to my phone not wanting to talk about it. If not for him running into my mine, I wouldn't have even bothered to show my face. Afterall, the less people knowing the better it was for everyone.

Thanks to having a high IQ secretary I guess but why am I also shocked about his findings?

It's not the first time I've gotten into contact with this family and apparently it won't be the last...or it might be given that none of us knew how the old man would react.

He always joked about taking me to raise for his grandkid and now we're indirectly connected. But why have I never seen this one among his good number of descendants?

My brother must have a knack for trouble.

-Schedule a meeting.

-Sir, the bar...

-Will still be there tomorrow night. Schedule a meeting and come with some casual clothes.

"Where are we going?"

"To get my supposed sister-in-law. Now, before anything, tell me the truth about why she chose to come home."

"She found out about my background. I hadn't told her who I was or about our family. Anyway, we don't have that much money, why did she choose to bolt?"

It seems when they met, my brother was still working as a norminal nine-to-five worker. My dad had made it mandatory to start from the bottom. She was working at a boutique selling men clothes and accessories. One thing led to the next they became close... some time later they were expecting.

"I told her I'd introduce her to our parents then things went south."

I turn back to the file on my phone, she'd used her real face, no excess make-up to hide marks or anything. Had she thought my brother was some bum... Looking at him now, he definitely was. But she was also one. My brother was heir to the family business which meant he'd been to meetings even in this country.

She was working at her dad's legal company before taking off, they must have met at one point...or were they both deserters? I had also never seen her face before so...

"Her name's Paula Xanderman. Her old man deals arms and the likes. The younger generation is dubbing into business. I've met the old man a good number of times so we are familiar."

The best time to go was this soon or else someone's grandpa might bring trouble. He had to be ready to own up to his mistakes... like pregnancy before marriage.

Not knowing someone well before getting intimate was another. He seemed to like her and from the time they met till now was a good many years that I don't think that should have just been in the closet for this long.

"How far along is she now?"

This was also a very important question... also, how long has she been missing? I also wanted to know what she told her grandpa after missing for several years and coming back with child.

"Five months."

"Okay?"

Truth is, I totally don't know how heavy that is. So, was it at flat...a bump...a large bump? Let's just get there to see for ourselves... hoping she kept it in the first place.

"How long has she been gone?"

"Two months now."

Is that good or bad... but I have a question, she lied, he lied, why the hell did she take off?
