Chapter 12 - Blood, Meat, and Ghost Stories

Hahaha... Every time I hear the name, I can't help but burst into laughter. It seems fitting for her, yet at the same time, it feels like the worst possible name that could exist.

As for Jet herself... well, my mother has indeed adopted her. It took only a week after I told my mother about her for her to be found. The name "Song" didn't belong to one of the most powerful clans for no reason.

Honestly, when I heard the news from my sister and rushed toward the gate connecting Ravenheart to the waking world, nothing could have braced me for what I saw.

Jet was... well, she was many things. But none of them had anything to do with the woman I had read about in the novel. She was shy. Quiet. She panicked at the slightest thing.

Good God, is this the one who will become the Soul Reaper Jet in the future? That terrifying woman who, even as an Ascended, made Transcendents fear her? For a moment, I thought about going to my mother to tell her she had adopted the wrong person.

But I didn't. I knew with a strange certainty that the person in front of me was the same fierce Jet from the future. All she needs is a good dose of nightmares and being on the brink of death a few times. I am sure she will become the killer I read about.

Now, after three weeks at Ravenheart, she was already doing much better than our first meeting. Despite my constant complaints about the hellish studies I'm subjected to, it was nothing compared to what Jet goes through.

After all, only two months remain until the Winter Solstice. It is highly likely she will be infected by the Spell at any time. One must always be prepared for the worst conditions.

In one of our lessons, my mother told me: "A plan built on the hope that the worst option won't happen is a plan doomed to failure. It's not a plan, but a wish." I couldn't help but agree with her logic.

"That's all for today, my princess." I heard Lora's voice speaking to Jet before she bowed quietly and left.

I approached Jet, looking at her with curiosity. She was sitting on the floor, stretched out and panting. Her chest rose and fell in a chaotic rhythm.

Seeing her drenched in sweat, oblivious to my footsteps, I couldn't help but want to annoy her. The urge to tease others runs in my blood. Besides, there's something wonderful about having a sister you can bully—despite being the youngest.

I dropped quietly onto my hands and feet, crawling toward her head like a predator. When I got close enough to her left ear, I whispered while blowing into her hair: "Boo!"

"Kyaaaaaaaa!"

As expected, Jet jumped, screaming in terror and running in the opposite direction. Who would have imagined that the ghost stories of Ravenheart would have such an effect on her?

For a moment, I almost felt pity. But it vanished the instant I remembered I wouldn't be able to do this after she passes her first nightmare. It's my right to do this before she becomes stronger than me.

Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts as she calmed down. "Orion, what are you doing here?" "Brought you water and some towels," I said, handing her a glass of cold water. "Oh, thank you. You're so kind."

As she drank, I asked: "I was waiting for you to have lunch together. Shall we go now?" "Yeah, sure. Just wait for me to take a quick shower. You can go first."

I smiled mischievously as I left the training hall. "Fine then... don't be too long. I heard there's a ghost in your bathroom." I didn't miss how her face lost its color. Hahaha! I couldn't help but laugh at her expression.

In the dining hall, I sat waiting with our plates set. I couldn't help but think in awe: I love meat. After obtaining the lineage of the Beast God, my diet consisted entirely of it. Sometimes I eat raw meat and drink blood. In fact, it seems my body enjoys it without ever getting tired.

When Jet arrived, wearing light white clothes, I commented mockingly: "Didn't you say you'd shower quickly? I've been waiting for an hour!"

She looked at me and replied sarcastically: "Oh, I'm sorry, dear brother. But I used the bathroom in your room. It was absolutely wonderful."

What? "Why are you breaking into my room?" Suddenly, I felt like I knew the answer. As expected, even Jet was influenced by lineage of the Beast God.

"Well, it was said there are ghosts in my private bathroom. What was I supposed to do?" Tsk tsk. Look at her giving me that annoying look.

"Fine, fine. You've won. Sit down and eat now." As we began eating the raw meat and blood, I remembered the novel. Jet always stated she felt a kind of kinship whenever she met the Song sisters.

In this life, she has already become one of them. After three weeks, Jet had become familiar to the rest of my sisters.

However, she still gets extremely tense whenever she meets my mother. Of course, this only added to my mother's amusement.

She always exploited the situation to play with Jet's emotions. She wouldn't be satisfied until she saw Jet leave with a face flushed red with embarrassment.
