Chapter 44 - First Double Battle!

"Who are you people?" one of the trainers demanded.

This group of men in black had suddenly rushed in and started shouting about robbing everyone's Pokémon.

"Well, since you've asked so sincerely—"

"We'll kindly tell you!"

...

The soul of Team Rocket—the classic trio of Jessie, James, and Meowth—made their dazzling entrance, smoothly delivering their iconic motto.

After so long, they had finally managed to finish the whole speech without interruption.

The trio became visibly excited, feeling the attention of all the trainers around them.

"Team Rocket?!"

The trainers finally realized that the infamous criminal organization known for stealing Pokémon had appeared on the ship.

"All the Pokémon here belong to Team Rocket now!"

Team Rocket members began snatching Poké Balls with electric batons in hand.

Anyone who resisted would immediately experience the baton's shocking power.

"Get lost! There are so many of us here—why would we be afraid of your thirty people?"

A trainer stepped forward.

Then several others joined him.

The situation suddenly flipped.

Instead of the trainers being intimidated, it looked like Team Rocket was about to be overwhelmed.

"What are you standing around for? Attack!" Jessie shouted.

The trainers had already started sending out their Pokémon, yet Team Rocket members were still standing there like statues.

Team Rocket released Pokémon such as Beedrill, Nidorino, Graveler, Golbat, and many others.

The entire lobby instantly descended into chaos.

"Pika—Chu!"

"Ash, are you okay?" Misty asked.

Pikachu had just shocked a Team Rocket grunt who tried to attack Misty. Ash quickly regrouped with Misty and Brock to avoid being surrounded.

"We're fine." Misty recalled her Staryu, which was already running low on energy. Fighting off Team Rocket members one after another was exhausting.

Brock's Geodude had defeated two of Team Rocket's Pokémon, though it had taken plenty of damage in the process.

Brock then released Onix.

With one sweeping motion of its massive tail, Onix knocked out several Pokémon at once.

However, the lobby was now a complete mess.

"There are still so many Pokémon!" Misty exclaimed as Team Rocket released yet another group.

They weren't particularly strong—but there were simply too many.

Now she understood why Team Rocket was known as a notorious Pokémon-stealing organization.

They had clearly stolen countless Pokémon already.

"Onix, use Slam!"

Onix smashed its long tail down onto Team Rocket's Pokémon.

CRACK.

The ship's wooden floorboards split open.

If this continues, the ship might not survive…

Ash watched the cracked floor nervously.

Better let Pikachu handle this instead.

"Pidgeot, use Air Slash!"

"Butterfree, use Sleep Powder, then blow it across the field with Gust!"

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"

Ash sent out Butterfree to control the battlefield with support moves, while Pidgeot and Pikachu focused on dealing damage.

That night when Bulbasaur received the Speed Enhancer, Ash had also given Pikachu four Basic Rare Candies.

One Rare Candy remained, so he fed it to Pidgeotto (LV.31).

That single level-up triggered its evolution into Pidgeot.

Misty and Brock stared in surprise.

Just a few days ago it had still been Pidgeotto.

When did it evolve?

Did it evolve inside the Poké Ball?

Pikachu's Thunderbolt struck first, paralyzing several of Team Rocket's Pokémon.

Then Pidgeot followed up with powerful attacks.

Butterfree's Sleep Powder also hit several targets.

"Twerp! Your opponent is us!" Jessie shouted.

She and James ordered their subordinates to deal with the other trainers.

This annoying twerp would be handled personally.

"Still losers in the end," Ash said calmly.

"Come out—Dodrio and Graveler!"

The Pokémon given by the boss were indeed different…

Graveler, a Rock/Ground-type, was completely immune to Electric-type moves—making it the perfect counter to Pikachu.

Meowth looked at the unfamiliar teammates.

The aura around them felt unusually powerful.

[Pokémon: Dodrio — LV.33]

[Pokémon: Graveler — LV.34]

They replaced their Pokémon…

These two were clearly not ordinary.

"Ash, I'll help you!" Misty said, stepping forward.

These new Pokémon were intimidating—especially Dodrio. Its eyes were among the fiercest she had ever seen.

"Pidgeot, Butterfree—go help Brock," Ash said.

This would be his first double battle.

"Doesn't matter who helps you," Jessie snorted.

After seeing Dodrio and Graveler's strength earlier, she felt confident they could finally defeat the twerp.

James was eager as well.

Capturing Pikachu would be the perfect way to redeem himself.

"Dodrio, Peck!"

"Graveler, Rock Blast!"

Jessie and James targeted Pikachu directly. Every attack was aimed at it.

"Pikachu, use Iron Tail to send the rocks back!"

Facing the barrage of rocks, Pikachu swung its glowing tail, batting the stones back toward Dodrio.

Dodrio was astonishingly strong.

All three heads used Peck simultaneously—shattering the rocks midair.

Even when fragments struck its body, it didn't slow down at all.

"Charge! Charge!"

"Dodrio, attack Pikachu!"

For the first time in ages, Team Rocket wasn't being completely bullied by Pikachu.

They were nearly moved to tears watching Dodrio rush forward.

"Starmie, use Brine!"

A powerful jet of water blasted into Dodrio, knocking it backward and sending it rolling across the floor.

"Oh right, there's another brat here!" Jessie shouted angrily.

They had missed a crucial opportunity.

"Starmie, Water Gun!"

But this time the attack targeted Graveler, interrupting its movement.

"Where do you think you're looking?" Ash said.

Pikachu's Iron Tail clashed with Dodrio's Peck, forcing Dodrio back several steps.

"James, can you handle this?!" Jessie yelled.

Fighting separately wouldn't work.

Graveler needed to break free from Starmie and help Dodrio focus on Pikachu.

James looked helpless.

Starmie was simply too fast, and Graveler couldn't hit it.

"Then let me handle it!" Meowth declared proudly.

Right now, Graveler and Dodrio needed to focus on Pikachu.

Meowth didn't need to defeat Starmie—

Just stall it.

Jessie and James were well aware of Meowth's capabilities.

Misty glanced toward Ash and Pikachu, worry flickering in her eyes.

"Pikachu—Thunderbolt!"

"Pika—CHUUUU!"

Golden lightning erupted outward, striking toward Graveler and Dodrio.

"Twerp, Graveler is immune to Electric-type—"

Before Jessie could finish speaking—

Team Rocket's smiles froze.

Pikachu's Thunderbolt completely engulfed both Pokémon.

"No way… it still—?!"

Meowth barely had time to react before he was hit by the massive surge of electricity too.

"Starmie, I hate you! Meowth!"

Thanks to Starmie's earlier attacks, the entire floor around them was soaked with water.

The electricity spread instantly.

Even Meowth got caught in the Thunderbolt.

Graveler and Dodrio were scorched black, their eyes spinning as they collapsed to the floor—completely defeated.

Team Rocket: "???????"
