BREAKING NEWS
The news reporter looked completely shocked. Then cleared their throat.
"Good evening.
We interrupt our scheduled programming for breaking news out of Disneyland.
Authorities are responding to what was moments ago believed to be a catastrophic roller coaster accident after a section of track unexpectedly collapsed while the train was traveling at high speed.
Hundreds of park guests watched as the coaster left the broken rails and began falling toward the ground with dozens of passengers still inside.
Emergency responders had not yet reached the scene when... something extraordinary occurred.
According to every eyewitness we've spoken to—and I do mean every eyewitness—a young boy suddenly emerged from the falling coaster itself before... somehow... taking flight.
Multiple videos recorded from different locations appear to show the boy flying beneath the train and catching the entire roller coaster before it could strike the ground.
I'll repeat that.
The footage appears to show a young boy catching a falling roller coaster.
With his bare hands.
He then lowers the train safely to the ground, allowing every passenger to escape alive.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the footage. However, the remarkable consistency between the hundreds of eyewitness accounts and the growing number of videos has made this one of the most closely watched developing stories in recent memory.
Perhaps the most astonishing detail is that witnesses insist the boy was not a bystander.
They say he was one of the passengers.
Several survivors have reportedly told investigators that the boy was seated inside the coaster moments before it left the track.
His identity remains unknown.
Witnesses say he left the scene by flying away before emergency crews were able to reach him.
If these reports are confirmed...
—and we must stress that investigators are still working to verify every detail—
this would represent the first documented case in human history of an individual displaying abilities far beyond anything previously thought possible.
We'll continue to monitor this unprecedented story throughout the evening as more information becomes available."
---
The television clicked off.
Silence filled the living room.
Father rubbed both hands over his face before letting out a long, weary sigh. "God... What are we supposed to do now?"
"It's alright, honey." Mother rested a hand on his shoulder. "We'll figure something out."
"We'll figure something out?" Father let out a dry laugh and pointed at the blank television. "His face was everywhere. Hundreds of people saw him. There are recordings from every angle imaginable. They're going to know exactly who he is."
John frowned. "I don't understand why that's a bad thing."
Both parents looked at him.
"I saved them," John continued. "Everyone lived."
"We know." Mother's voice softened. "And we're so proud of you for that."
"Then what's wrong?" John asked. "People finally know I exist. I don't have to hide anymore. I can actually help people."
Father slowly stood. "Saving people isn't the problem, John. What you did today was brave." He paused, choosing his next words carefully. "But you're twelve years old."
John's smile faded.
"The world isn't going to see a kid who saved lives," Father continued. "They're going to see something they can't explain. Governments. Scientists. Militaries. Every powerful person on this planet is going to want answers."
"So what?" John crossed his arms. "I can take care of myself."
Father shook his head. "You don't know that."
"I can fly. I caught a roller coaster! Nothing can hurt me!"
"You don't know that!" Father snapped, his voice echoing through the house. Realizing he'd shouted, he took a deep breath and lowered his voice. "You don't know what people will do once they're afraid of you."
John looked away.
"I've dreamed about this my whole life," he muttered. "Being a superhero... helping people."
"And you've already done that." Father looked him in the eyes. "But that rescue may have changed our lives forever."
John clenched his fists. "Maybe it'll change them for the better."
"Or maybe," Father replied quietly, "it'll take everything away from us."
The room fell silent.
John couldn't understand it. He had saved dozens of people. Families would be reunited tonight because of him. Children would get to hug their parents again because of him.
After what felt like an eternity, Father let out another exhausted sigh. "You know what? Fine."
Mother turned to him. "Honey..."
"No." He gently pulled his arm away. His eyes never left John's. "If this is the life you want, I'm done trying to stop you. Go be a superhero." His voice grew colder. "But when the consequences come... don't say I didn't warn you."
John's jaw tightened. "Fine," he shot back. "Maybe I will."
Without another word, he stormed upstairs. His bedroom door slammed hard enough to shake the hallway.
Neither parent moved.
Mother wiped at her eyes. "You didn't mean that."
Father stared at the staircase where John had disappeared. "No," he whispered. "I meant every word."
Upstairs, John threw open his closet.
His heart was still pounding—not from fear, but excitement.
He grabbed an old shirt from the back of the closet and cut two rough holes through the fabric. It looked ridiculous, but once he slipped it over his head, he couldn't help smiling.
A mask.
Next came the blanket. He tied it around his neck, letting it drape behind him like a cape.
John stood in front of the mirror.
He didn't see a scared twelve-year-old anymore. He saw the hero he'd always imagined.
He pushed open the window, looked out over the city lights, and smiled.
"Time to meet the world."
Without another thought, he leapt into the night.
---
A deafening boom echoed across the city.
Heads turned instinctively toward the sky.
There, suspended high above the streets, was a young boy wearing a makeshift mask and a blanket tied around his neck like a cape.
The city fell silent.
For a brief moment, nobody moved. Nobody spoke.
Hundreds of people simply stared, unsure whether what they were were seeing was real.
Then John smiled nervously.
To prove it wasn't some elaborate illusion, he flew around in circles at impossible speed. The wind roared through the streets, whipping hair into the air and sending loose papers dancing across the pavement before he came to a perfect stop in the exact same spot.
The silence broke.
Gasps echoed throughout the crowd.
Phones were pulled from pockets almost instantly.
People pointed. Some shouted. Others simply stood frozen, unable to believe their own eyes.
John swallowed. He cleared his throat. "H-Hello, everyone... My name is—"
"Are we live?!" a reporter shouted as she pushed through the crowd, a cameraman rushing behind her. "Tell me we're live!"
"We're live!" the cameraman replied.
The reporter immediately pointed the microphone toward the boy floating overhead. "Can you tell us who you are?"
John froze. He hadn't thought that far ahead. His mind raced through dozens of names, each sounding sillier than the last.
Captain... Guardian... Sentinel...
None of them felt right. Then it hit him.
"M-Monarch!" he blurted out. "My name is Monarch!"
The reporter blinked before quickly recovering. "Monarch... are you the same person who rescued the passengers aboard the Disneyland roller coaster earlier today?"
John nodded enthusiastically. "Y-Yeah! That was me!"
For a split second, the crowd remained silent.
Then someone started clapping. Another joined in, then another.
Within moments, the entire street erupted into thunderous applause. Cheers echoed between the buildings.
People called out his name.
"Monarch!"
"Monarch!"
"Monarch!"
The reporter turned toward the camera, struggling to contain her own disbelief. "Ladies and gentlemen... we've just received confirmation from multiple eyewitnesses and the footage released earlier today. This is him." She looked back at John before facing the camera once more. "This is the boy who saved dozens of lives at Disneyland."
Her voice grew louder.
"If you're just joining us... history is being made before our very eyes. We are looking at the first documented superhuman in human history."
John looked around at the cheering crowd. His heart swelled.
Just hours ago, he thought his parents would be proud of him. Instead, complete strangers were.
A grin spread across his face. "My name is Monarch..." he said, his voice no longer trembling. "And I am a superhero!"
The crowd erupted even louder than before.
"Monarch!" the reporter called after him. "Please, just one more question!"
But John only smiled.
With a sonic boom that shook the windows around him, he disappeared into the sky before anyone could stop him.
