Harry looked at Raven and said, "Raven, actually my uncle Vernon has been found guilty of child abuse, neglect, kidnapping, and imprisonment of a minor. And then my mom—his wife, Petunia Dursley—has been found guilty of the same crimes. And then Dudley has been placed in juvenile detention for delinquent behavior, considering that when the police came to arrest Petunia and Uncle Vernon, Dudley attempted to assault the police who were taking his meal ticket away. He literally said, 'Hey, give me back my meal ticket,' and then proceeded to kick the police officer in the shin."
He continued with a small shrug, "And speaking of the police officer that went to arrest him, it was actually Officer Timothy Claremont—the same officer who originally helped to settle you into the orphanage here and helped me a lot to recover from all the abuse that I suffered."
Raven tilted her head and watched him carefully. "You're not sad about your Uncle Vernon and your Aunt Petunia going to jail?"
Harry waved his hand dismissively, almost casually. "Not after Officer Timothy clarified with me that how I was treated under their care was completely illegal and everything they did to me was morally wrong. I have come to understand what true abuse is now, and the suffering I endured under their care is true child abuse. I don't have any good feelings for them anymore at all. And the fact that Dudley has been placed in juvenile detention for his behavior makes me happier than ever. After all, that kid is a jerk, Raven."
Raven laughed softly, the edge of her lips curling up into a smile as she replied, "I'm well aware of Dudley. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll run into him soon enough."
Harry made a face. "I hope not. I never want to see those three again. Whoever placed me in their care when my parents died in that car accident should be ashamed of themselves."
Somewhere far away, on the other side of the world, inside a dark and echoing castle cloaked in stormlight and shadow, an old man's long white beard suddenly flew up into his face. He blinked slowly, then said, "Who's cursing me right now?" Calmly, he reached for a delicate porcelain cup, took a measured sip of tea, and then began combed his beard back down with two fingers.
Back in the warm halls of the orphanage, Raven smiled knowingly. "I bet you just cursed somebody out."
Harry gave her a confused glance. "I don't know who I would curse. But whoever did place me with those three people had no idea how to even choose parents to take care of somebody—especially a kid. It's like they've never had kids of their own."
Raven studied him for a moment and then nodded softly. "You really have matured over the last couple of months, Harry."
He rolled his eyes but nodded with a bit of quiet pride. "I've had to mature. I have to take care of myself."
Raven arched an eyebrow as Harry said. "Fine, fine, fine. Claire takes care of most of the day-to-day work. But seriously, I had to go to court and testify against the Dursleys and against Dudley. And it's thanks to me that Dudley can't get out of juvenile detention anytime soon. I testified to all kinds of bullying and torture he did to me. After all that stuff, he'd be lucky if he gets out of there before the age of eighteen."
Raven covered her mouth as a laugh escaped. "I think, Harry, that you're doing just fine. Speaking of which, how are all those wounds and scars doing? Have they completely healed?"
Harry scratched his head, shifting on his feet. "I don't know what's going on with that. But all those burns and scars I had all over my back and chest have completely vanished. I look as if I've never even had an injury before. Claire and Officer Timothy Claremont looked at all the wounds, and they have never seen anything like it either. In fact, Claire took me to a doctor and they don't even know how those scars and burns healed, but they're completely gone now."
Raven's eyes softened, a small smile curving her lips. "I'm sure that you have your own unique advantages, Harry. You just haven't discovered how unique you truly are. After all, you can talk to snakes, so who says you can't do even more?"
Harry scratched the back of his neck. "I don't know what you mean by that. I always feel like you're talking to me in circles, like I'm supposed to know something, but I'm not in on the joke."
Raven laughed lightly. "You'll figure it out in a couple of weeks. All right, it's almost our eleventh birthday. And after everything that we've been doing lately, I think it's about time for us to start a new adventure."
Harry narrowed his eyes slightly. "Where are we going?"
Raven's smile grew wider. "I think we are about to experience a new world."
Harry threw his hands up. "I think you didn't get enough sleep last night and you are high on sugar from all that cereal this morning."
With a quick inhale, Raven darted forwards. "You think you can say that I'm high on sugar right now, Harry Potter? Come back here. I'm going to beat you up."
He burst into laughter and took off running, dodging around furniture as Raven gave chase. Raven lifted Medusa off her shoulder, and the little green snake curled protectively around her neck. As Raven pursued Harry, Medusa's tiny head turned and fixed its gaze on him, tongue flicking in the air.
