"Waaaah, waaaaah!"
"Pika-pi..." (It's been a whole day, hasn't it?)
"Lucky!" (Indeed, a whole day.)
After bidding farewell to Kaiser, Ash and his group continued their journey. However, along the way, Brock's resentful sobbing simply hadn't stopped. If he were wailing at the top of his lungs, it might have been fine, but right now he was whimpering and sniffling like a little girl, which was just completely obnoxious.
"I say, Brock, that's about enough crying. Look at how weirdly people are staring at you."
"But... but! I still want to cry!"
Seeing Brock like this, what could Ash do? He could only distance himself from Brock along with Lara and the girls.
Watching Brock, Suzie sighed helplessly. "Actually, if you think about it carefully, it's pretty normal for Brock to cry..."
"True. Being rejected by Pokémon... but it is strange. To be completely honest, my caretaking skills definitely can't compare to Brock's. Why wasn't he chosen?"
This was what Misty had been wondering the whole time. She knew her own limits. She was great with Water-type Pokémon, but in terms of breeding and caretaking, she really couldn't beat Brock.
Hearing Misty's question, Meowth shot a glance at Brock and whispered, "Actually, you guys having it so easy is partly thanks to the Boss. You see, you guys are always close to the Boss, especially Lara..."
"Ahem, Meowth, get to the point..."
Lara interrupted him. Meowth was about to blab everything, even though Suzie and Misty already knew. Reminded by Lara, Meowth realized his slip.
"Oh, sorry. Because you guys are so close to the Boss, you all carry his scent to some extent... And the Boss is the person those Dratini feel closest to, so it's not surprising they chose you."
"I see... So we piggybacked off Ash's popularity!"
"Pretty much. But don't sell yourselves short, Lara. If your hearts weren't in the right place, the Dratini wouldn't have chosen you either."
"Hearts not in the right place..."
Misty glanced at the sniffling Brock, not knowing what to say.
Meowth looked at Brock and sighed helplessly. "Brock basically brought it upon himself. His constant flirting with every woman he sees made Dragonite very dissatisfied. He was worried that one day, Brock would get seduced by a pretty face and end up giving the Dratini away, or getting them stolen..."
"I... literally cannot argue with that." Thinking about Brock's usual behavior, Suzie couldn't refute Meowth's logic at all.
Watching Brock continue to sob, Meowth pulled out a canned drink, took a sip, and added, "So yeah, Dragonite casually mentioned this to the Dratini. All their affection for him instantly vanished."
"No wonder Dragonite was roaring back then! He was warning the Dratini!"
Lara finally remembered that Dragonite had indeed been making noises before chatting with Ash. She had wondered what was going on, but now it all made sense.
"Exactly... The Dragonite was actually introducing you guys the whole time. For instance, he told them Lara is great at battling, so the Dratini that loves battling chose you. Misty specializes in Water-types, so the Dratini that loves water chose her. And Suzie is great at taking care of Pokémon, so the Dratini looking for a gentle trainer chose her."
After Meowth's explanation, Misty, Suzie, and Lara finally understood. It had all been part of the Dragonite's plan all along!
"So, Meow, if Brock had just behaved even slightly better, he wouldn't have been sabotaged by the Dragonite. Although Dragonite did mention Brock is great at taking care of Pokémon, he also explicitly stated that Brock is a massive pervert who gets easily seduced by women, which could lead to the Dratini getting stolen or given away..."
"..."
Misty and the other two looked at the weeping Brock with disdainful eyes, suddenly realizing he probably deserved it.
Just as the girls were glaring at Brock in disgust, Ash, who was trying to comfort him, was forcefully pulled away by a very annoyed Gardevoir. At the same time, Gardevoir used her psychic powers to completely mute Brock's voice.
"Mmph! Mmph mph!"
"Gar." (Finally, some peace and quiet. Crying all day long... making it so hard for me to romance Darling!)
"Pika..." (You really are...)
Pikachu stared at Gardevoir, speechless.
Gardevoir intimately wrapped her arms around Ash's arm. "Gar!" (This is called love! It's completely different from the friendship and familial love you have with Darling!)
"Thanks, Gardevoir, but is this really okay?"
Ash looked at the magically silenced Brock. Although he felt relieved, it still felt a bit wrong.
Gardevoir shook her head and rested her cheek on Ash's shoulder.
"Gar!" (Don't mind that pervert, Darling!)
Seeing Gardevoir act like this, Ash felt it was a bit strange, but he decided to let it go. After all, she had been a huge crybaby who loved acting spoiled back when she was a Ralts...
