Pov Josiane...
Josie barely slept.
Every time I closed her eyes, things replayed—
The empty park bench.
Kaela and Cain standing close.
Then disappearing without a trace.
And Noah's quiet voice—
I'm trying to keep you away from this.
Away from what?
Morning light didn't make things clearer.
Campus felt loud, busy, normal.
But Josie felt like she was walking through a place layered with secrets.
"Josie!"
She turned as Kane hurried toward her.
He slowed when he reached her, offering a small, familiar smile.
"You look tired."
"Didn't sleep much."
"Thinking?"
"Overthinking."
He nodded like he understood.
They began walking side by side.
Cain wasn't loud or dramatic.
He had a steady presence — the kind that made chaos feel distant.
After a few quiet steps, Josie spoke.
"Cain … can I ask something personal?"
He glanced at her. "Depends how personal."
"You and Kaela."
His steps slowed slightly.
"What about us?"
"You're together, right?"
A soft expression crossed his face.
"Yeah."
Not shy. Not flashy.
Just certain.
Josie noticed the difference in his voice — calmer, warmer.
"You don't talk about it much," she said.
"We don't need to," Cain replied. "Some things are stronger when they're quiet."
She thought about that.
"But she's always so serious,"Josie added. "And you're… softer."
He smiled faintly. "That's why it works."
"How?"
"She carries pressure. I carry patience."
Josie blinked.
"That sounds important."
"It is."
They walked a little further.
Then Cain spoke again, more thoughtful now.
"People see titles first. Head Prefect. Ranks. Authority."
"But I see her."
Josie listened carefully.
"She's not cold," he continued. "She's careful. Because if she breaks, everything around her shakes."
Josie felt something settle in her chest.
So their closeness in the park…
The quiet way they stood together…
It wasn't random.
It was trust.
Partnership.
Support.
"Does it get hard?" she asked softly.
"Being with someone who carries that much responsibility?"
Cain nodded. "All the time."
"Then why stay?"
He looked ahead, eyes steady.
"Because some people are worth standing beside when things get heavy."
The words lingered.
Warm.
Real.
Before Josie could respond—
Tense voices echoed from the Student Council corridor.
Both of them turned.
Through the half-open door—
Kaela stood inside.
Composed. Firm.
Noah faced her across the table.
Serious.
Focused.
The air between them felt sharp.
"You can't delay this decision," Kaela said.
Noah replied calmly, "I'm considering consequences."
"Or avoiding them?"
Silence.
Josie felt the tension from where she stood.
Cain' s posture changed instantly.
More alert. Protective.
Not jealous.
Concerned.
Josie noticed.
"You trust them?" she asked quietly.
"With responsibilities?" Cain said. "Yes."
"With feelings?" he added. "That's complicated."
Inside the room, Kaela placed a file on the table.
Old papers. Official seal.
"No more hiding," she said.
Noah didn't touch it.
"My priority is safety."
Kaela's voice softened just slightly.
"And mine is truth."
Their eyes met.
A silent conversation passing between them.
Josie felt like she was watching something bigger than an argument.
Not enemies.
Not friends.
Leaders carrying different burdens.
Kane gently stepped back.
"Let's go."
"But—"
"Trust me."
They turned away.
As they walked, Josie asked—
"Did something happen before I came here?"
Cain was quiet for a long moment.
"Yes."
Just one word.
Heavy enough.
A sudden metallic crash echoed behind them.
CLANG.
They turned sharply.
A locker down the hall hung open.
Papers scattered across the floor.
No one nearby.
No footsteps leaving.
Just stillness.
Cain walked closer cautiously.
Josie followed.
Inside the locker door—
A strange circular symbol was drawn in black ink.
Under it, three letters:
E.V.E
Josie's breath caught.
"I've seen this before…"
Cain shut the locker quickly.
"You shouldn't have."
"Shouldn't have what?"
But his expression had closed off.
Walls up.
Conversation over.
Students began filling the corridor again.
Noise returned.
Normal life resumed.
Yet Josie stood still.
This university looked perfect on the surface.
Perfect ranks.
Perfect couples.
Perfect leaders.
But underneath—
There were fractures.
Old decisions.
Hidden histories.
And bonds strong enough to survive them.
Josie looked ahead quietly.
She didn't understand everything.
Not yet.
But she knew one thing—
Some lines weren't meant to divide people.
They were meant to show
who stands beside you
when things fall apart.
To be continued…
