This man was likely a loser in some power struggle. He wanted them to kill his rivals so he could reclaim his position.
Rhett was losing interest. But he was more curious about what Joy Boy would do. In a hundred years, he would be seen as a savior.
He watched Joy Boy. Don't disappoint me.
The suffering of the people might be real. But the man's story wasn't pure. He wasn't a selfless noble.
Joy Boy's smile faded. He moved closer to Rhett and whispered.
"I need to talk to you."
"What?"
"He's lying. I can sense it. The people are suffering. I don't see their smiles."
He poked Rhett. "I want to go see. Is that okay?"
Rhett pushed his finger away. "It's your ship. Do what you want."
"No. This is our adventure. I wanted to ask you."
Rhett was surprised by his sincerity.
"Fine. I'm bored anyway."
Joy Boy smiled. "Great! Let's go save a country!"
Rhett looked at the kneeling man. "Get out."
The man left, crying thanks.
Joy Boy looked at Rhett. "Were you going to kill him?"
Rhett was cleaning his arm. "Yes. The girl didn't like them."
The girl nodded. She hadn't liked their presence.
Joy Boy frowned. "They were brave to ask for help. The people are suffering."
Rhett looked up. "We're friends. We can travel together. But my vice captain's enemies are my enemies. I spared them for you."
Joy Boy understood. Rhett and his vice captain were good partners.
He smiled. "I trust you."
Rhett smiled. The journey began.
