Chapter 25 - Ch 25- Magic

"If you want to become a Mage, there are two paths you can choose from: a Magician or a Spirit User."

"Carlisle Teacher, which type are you?" Subaru raised her hand, asking like a diligent student. Since earlier, she had insisted on calling him "Carlisle Teacher" in a playful yet respectful manner.

Carlisle patiently explained, "I walk the path of a Magician. To judge a person's magical talent, there are two main factors. The first is the capacity of magic power within their body, and the second is their 'Gate'."

"The 'Gate' is the organ hidden within the human body that releases magic power. The quality of the Gate determines the strength and potential of a person's magic. A Magician is a Mage who relies on the magic power within their own body and releases magic through their Gate."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"A Spirit User, on the other hand, gains power by forming a contract with a spirit. They can communicate with the micro-spirits that exist in the air to obtain magical power, and they can also use Spirit Arts. Generally speaking, when both sides possess the same level of magic power, a Spirit User is stronger than a Magician."

"In that case, why doesn't Carlisle Teacher find a spirit to form a contract with?" Subaru tilted her head, her eyes filled with curiosity.

Carlisle shook his head. "It's not that I don't want to, but that I can't. First of all, even forming a contract with the most common micro-spirits requires a great deal of time spent communicating with them. Powerful spirits are extremely rare. Let alone forming a contract with one, an ordinary person might never even see one in their entire life."

"Although I could theoretically form a contract with micro-spirits, I am a Knight. Compared to magic, swordsmanship is my primary combat method. If I were to give up my sword training time just to communicate with micro-spirits, it would not be worthwhile for me."

Subaru listened carefully, then nodded thoughtfully. "I see… As expected of Carlisle Teacher. You chose the path that suits you best."

Carlisle smiled slightly and extended a finger. "Now, let me examine your magic attribute and your 'Gate'." As he spoke, his fingertips gently touched the girl's forehead, and a faint glow emanated from them.

A moment later, Carlisle withdrew his finger. "Hmm… I understand now."

"How is it? Can I become a Magician?" Subaru asked eagerly, her eyes filled with nervous anticipation.

Carlisle nodded. "Subaru, your magic attribute is the very rare Yin Attribute. This attribute is extremely uncommon." He paused briefly, his tone becoming softer. "However, your Gate… is not very ideal. It is somewhat smaller than that of an average person. This means you may encounter certain limitations when casting magic."

A trace of disappointment appeared on Subaru's face upon hearing this, but Carlisle quickly added, "However, this does not mean you cannot become a powerful Mage."

Carlisle looked at her and spoke in a gentle, reassuring tone. "It seems that Subaru may be more suited to becoming a Spirit User. As long as you find a suitable spirit, you can definitely become a powerful Mage."

"But Carlisle Teacher, aren't spirits extremely rare?" Subaru tilted her head again, asking with confusion. "Am I supposed to form a contract with micro-spirits?"

"Haha, of course not." Carlisle gently shook his head. "You are my first student, after all. Before you find a suitable spirit, I have another way to help you. But before that, let me teach you a few spells."

"Oh, oh, oh, is it starting?" Subaru excitedly clenched her fists. "I will definitely work hard!"

Carlisle nodded, then raised one hand as his expression turned serious.

"Watch carefully, Subaru. This is the magic I will teach you."

"El Minya."

As the incantation fell, dozens of amethyst arrows instantly appeared behind Carlisle. Each arrow glowed with a cold light as they floated silently in the air. However, Carlisle did not release them. Instead, with a gentle wave of his hand, the arrows dissolved into particles of light and disappeared.

"This is a Yin Attribute offensive spell. Now, come and try it yourself." Carlisle walked behind Subaru and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "I will assist you from here. After reciting the incantation, follow your inner instincts and try to guide the magic power."

"Okay! Please watch closely, Teacher!" Subaru nodded vigorously.

She imitated Carlisle, raising her hand. After taking a deep breath, she recited the incantation.

"El Minya."

At the same time, magical power slowly flowed from Carlisle's palm into Subaru's body. Subaru felt a warm current circulating within her, as if something inside her was about to burst forth. A faint magical aura began to radiate from her body, and tiny specks of light flickered faintly in the surrounding air.

A moment later, an amethyst arrow slowly formed behind Subaru. The arrow emitted a faint glow as it floated quietly in the air. Subaru's eyes widened in astonishment. Then she cautiously attempted to control the arrow with her thoughts. The arrow responded to her will, floating through the air, sometimes rising and sometimes falling.

"Is… this magic?" Subaru's voice trembled with excitement. Her eyes shone with disbelief. "Did I really do this?"

Carlisle stood behind her, a relieved smile appearing on his face. "Yes, that is magic. You did very well."

After saying that, Carlisle walked a short distance away and turned around once he stopped.

"Now, attack me."

"Eh?" Subaru froze for a moment, clearly not expecting that.

"What's wrong? Do you think you might hurt me?" Carlisle's tone carried a trace of teasing. "Don't worry. This is simply a test. If the power is not sufficient… then I will have to reflect on my own teaching ability."

"Okay! I definitely won't disappoint you, Teacher!" Subaru nodded vigorously.

She took a deep breath, focused her mind, and controlled the amethyst arrow to fly toward Carlisle. The arrow shot forward with a faint glow, heading straight for him.

Carlisle simply raised a finger and whispered, "Yin Sealing Technique."

As the words left his mouth, Yin Attribute mana rapidly condensed in front of him, forming a transparent protective barrier. The moment the amethyst arrow reached him, it struck the invisible barrier and instantly shattered, dissolving into particles of light in the air.

"Very good, especially for a beginner." Carlisle nodded with clear approval in his tone.

"Come on, continue. Let's see how many times you can cast it."

Subaru paused briefly, then immediately understood Carlisle's intention. He was testing the capacity of her magic power. She clenched her fists, her eyes burning with determination.

"I definitely won't disappoint you! El Minya!"

Once again, she mobilized the magical power within her body, and another amethyst arrow began to appear beside her. However, the image of Carlisle summoning dozens of arrows earlier suddenly flashed through her mind. A desire to challenge herself rose within her.

"How many can I make?"

Subaru continued to draw out her magical power. One arrow appeared, then another, then a third. Finally, three amethyst arrows floated beside her. She gritted her teeth and attempted to summon a fourth.

At that moment, Carlisle's voice interrupted her.

"Alright, stop."

Carlisle walked toward her, his tone gentle but slightly serious.

"Subaru, your maximum with this spell is three casts. Continuing beyond that might place excessive strain on your Gate."

Carlisle then placed his hand on Subaru's shoulder and began channeling magical power into her body.

"I will help restore your magic power. Next, we will learn the Yin Attribute defensive magic that I used earlier."
