--Mid-Wilshire station--

{any foreign languages that get spoken will get typed out in English but will be Italicized and have said language in paratheses}

I was walking into the station seeing Nolan talking to his son remembering him from pictures he had showed us. Stumbling when I hear him talk about airport jail.

"What is this airport jail you are talking about my dear friend Nolan." I said catching my self then asking him.

"Ah Elena this is my son Henry." Nolan said completely avoiding my question about airport jail.

"I remember its hard to forget when you either show his picture and or talk about him." I said while shaking Henry's hand.

"He really talked about me a lot?"

"Yeah, like he was trying to get us to memorize a bolo." I laughed out as I was talking Lucy and Jackson walked in.

"What is this embarrassing store I am hearing about." I asked Henry when Lucy and Jackson got to us.

Nolan jumping at the chance to not hear the store started to introduce Jackson and Lucy.

"Hey! Jackson and Lucy, this is -" getting cut off when Jackson chest bumped then hugged.

"Henry. What's up, bro?" Jackson said along with Lucy both talking at the same time greeting him.

"Hey! Nice to see you."

"You guys know my son?" Nolan asked.

"Yeah, on, uh, social media."

"Yeah, I-I followed them after you guys started hanging out together at the Academy. They followed me back."

"You know what? That photo that you posted earlier from the plane was horrifying."

"Dude, I literally almost puked." Jackson said fake gaging.

"Thanks for that." grossing out Lucy

"Okay, the guy in the next aisle over straight up cleaned his dentures on the tray table."

"Gross" I said

"It was bad." Henry said to the 3 of us.

"Wait, how come you didn't tell me you were friends with my son on the Insta thing?"

"Well, it didn't seem like a big deal." Lucy said while they both shrugged at Nolan.

"Yeah. It's 2019, Dad. Get with the times."

"Yeah. Dad." Jackson said sarcastically.

"That was a good one." Henry laughed out.

"Yeah, thank you."

"Yeah"

"Don't worry Nolan I don't have or use any social media don't care for it." I said while Jackson, Lucy and Henry started to talk and Laugh.

We get changed and get to the briefing room and sit down waiting for todays briefing to start.

Grey came in and immediately started talking stopping when he got up by the podium "All right. Look alive, look alive. Officer Nolan, you ready?"

"Yes, sir."

"Good. Now, answer me this. What is your favorite part about the job? And don't say "To make a difference." Grey said with a look while making eye contact with Nolan.

"I wasn't going to. But it is."

Grey then paused what he was saying when he heard what Nolan had said then continued. "What's your least favorite?"

"Oh, that's easy. Paperwork."

Right after he said that The Captain walked into the room while speaking.

"Imagine how I feel."

Causing the officers to start whispering for a minute before quieting down.

"All right."

"Most of what a captain does is paperwork. 'Cause of that, I feel like I've lost touch with what being a cop is really about. People. It's not only the citizens that we serve and protect. It's every single one of you in this room. So, to remedy that, I've decided Sergeant Grey and I are gonna ride patrol today."

After she said that she prompted a question from Tim. "Together?"

"No. We're each gonna ride with a rookie, and their respective T.O.s will pair up." The Captain said and before she could say more after pausing Jackson spoke up.

"Ma'am, I'd be honored if you'd ride with me."

"That is sweet, Officer West, but today I'm riding with Officer Chen and Officer Alverez."

"Sergeant Grey, I'd be honored if you rode with Officer West today."

"That's cute, Officer Nolan. But you know my heart belongs to you."

"Lucky me."

Getting a small laugh from the other officers before, they dismissed us I got up met up with Lucy, Tim and Bishop before making way to the kit room. When we get outside of the briefing room a Tim starts talking.

"Lot of weight on your shoulders today, Boot."

"Why? What do you mean?"

"Riding with the captain is a huge responsibility. If anything happens to her, well - I don't even know how to finish that sentence." Bishop finished before shrugging her shoulders at us.

"I do. Andersen gets a scratch, and you'll be working motor pool in Sylmar till you die of carbon monoxide poisoning." Tim finished her sentence before walking faster to the kit room as Lucy paused in the bullpen after hearing what Tim.

I rolled my eyes at them before pulling Lucy along to the kit room for the war bags.

"They are pulling your leg she right now is just a higher ranking patrol officer. and will not like it if you treat her like glass." I said finishing by the time I got to the kit room then getting a warbag and trauma bag and a shotgun while Lucy grabbed the other two warbags. Before we left the kit room desk Tim stopped us trying to convince us to grab his and Bishop gear.

Trying to distract him long enough for the Captain to get down here as I see her walking on the second floor.

Sorry, Sir we are un able to grab extra bags right now our hands are full and we would want to drop anything possible damaging your gear only for you find out its broke when you need it." I said to Tim and before he could respond back the Captain gets to the bottom of the stairs and starts making her way to us.

"Ah, sorry ma'am we are almost finished here Lucy just finished checking the last war bag." I spoke to the captain, causing Tim to skirt around us and grab the gear from where the officer manning the kit room put it.

Lucy and I make way to the shop and started the precursory check then loaded our gear into the shop while we waited for the Captain to finish talking to Tim and Bishop. When she finished we started to talk to her.

"ma'am we are done with the check over and set up the shop just waiting to see if you wanted to drive or if you wanted to drive." I spoke to the Captain.

" I'll be driving get in." Captain Anderson spoke before taking the keys from Lucy and we walked to the passenger doors and after a minute we took off to start patrolling.

It wasn't even like 20 minutes passed before we got dispatched out to a family disturbance. We pull up and I hear people yelling inside recognizing the language but can't make out enough to place it completely we make it to the door seeing that it is cracked open with our hands on our holsters Lucy yells out.

"Police!!" but either the people inside don't hear us or decided to ignore us.

We make entry into the house and see a man and a woman arguing in farsi and the man throwing stuff and breaking things. We get up to them and start telling them to calm down.

"Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey, enough!" Captain yelled out over the two.

"I'll call for an interpreter." Lucy said and before I could start speaking the Captain spoke up.

"(in Farsi) You both need to calm down and tell me what's going on."

"(in Farsi) She doesn't care about anything we had together." They started to talk trying to talk over one another.

"(in Farsi) This man is not leaving my house! Throw him out!"

"(in Farsi) One at a time, please. Do you speak English?" The Captain had to speak up again telling them to calm down.

"Yes. Our marriage is over. I made a mistake of telling him he could come by and get a few things. Then he starts destroying the whole house!"

"Nothing we shared matters to her anymore. I love you, Mehrnaz. Why are you throwing us away?"

"I cannot keep doing this with you, Dariush." The woman started in English before switching back to Farsi and yelling at the ex.

"Sir, clearly, you're in a lot of pain, but what you need to do is get a lawyer, see a judge, and they will help you to divide your property." Lucy stepped up in an attempt to defuse the situation.

"Lawyers? Judges? Strangers! My wife is leaving me. My life is over."

The man started to speak again but got cut off when the Captain spoke up. "Ma'am, do you want to press charges?"

"No. I just want him out."

"Officer Chen Officer Alverez, can you escort Mr. Ghorbani outside, please?"

"Come on." Lucy motioned to the man then walked side by side with him while I was on the other side. We make it right up to the door when suddenly Mr. Ghorbani ran up the stairs to the second floor. "Hey!" Lucy yelled when we got half way The Captain yelled. "Officers, there's a gun upstairs!"

He had a head start getting into the room and closing the door before we got to the top step. When stopped at the top step when we heard the door close. we staged at the top waiting for the Captain with our guns drawn.

"What do we do?" Lucy asked.

"Straddle the door. Talk him out of there. Try not to get shot." We split up on either side of the door and staged with Captain knocking on the door. "Mr. Ghorbani, I need you to come out now." she then tried the door nob with knob with no luck before repeating her self in Farsi. " Mr. Ghorbani, I know you're upset, but this won't solve any problems. Come out."

We didn't wait long before we heard a gun shot. Andersen kicks the door and we enter we didn't need to go that far in before we found Dariush that slumped against the wall with a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head.

We call it in and have the coroner dispatched to us. Lucy is guiding them to the stairs then tells them where he is before calling a code 4.

I was outside finishing our side of the paper work while they were inside with the ex and Lucy with the coroner directing him.

I see Jackson and Lopez show up shortly after the code 4 he jumps out and starts heading inside I hear him exchange it with Andersen as she reprimands him before sending him away from the scene.

After the coroner finishes we clear from the scene and restart our patrol. After we finished a speeding ticket we get dispatched to an disturbance at a residents in a yard

When we finally arrive I find out its a frat house with a party going on with an argument between a man in a bun and a man in a jersey.

We get down and I can hear them yelling.

"You don't even have a parking permit. Move your car."

"Well, what are you gonna do, make me?"

"I got to make you? What, are you 12 years old? Look how you parked the car, my man!"

"Take my keys and do it for me."

We get closer we hear that it is over a parking spot. Andersen starts out.

"Gentlemen."

"Oh, you gonna walk because the police is here now?"

"Gentlemen!! Hey, hey, hey. What seems to be the problem?" Andersen then spoke again interrupting the two again speaking over them.

"This is my spot."

"Screw that. He stole it from me."

"Man, the hell I did. I got here first, and he cut me off."

"Okay. Okay. I-I don't understand. It's a parking spot. Just get another one." Lucy spoke up confused on the thing being argued when there was a spot just 4 spaces down the area.

"All right. The game's about to start. I got the beer all ready. Screw your daughter."

Lucy trying to defuse the situation starts to move the Jersey man away from the other I step forward to help her and right when I get to him. "Hey, hey, hey! Hey, hey! Whoa!" The man not wanting to listen took a swing at Lucy who ducked I dodged out its path and it landed on the Captain's face. I immediately decentralized the man hard into the ground and getting one hand in the cuffs before anyone else moved Lucy helping me finish and right before I picked him up Andersen moves in and took control from us. She moves him to the shop I follow behind her while Lucy started to take the other mans statement. After She search the man and read him his rights we put him in the back and called for a back up unit to take him to the station. I finally got her to sit down on the bumper of the shop to check the bruising before handing her an ice pack.

"I don't need this."

I pushed her back down to the bumper. " No, stay let the ice pack help the swelling. And no I am not giving you special treatment, just ask the others. Lucy, Jackson, Lopez, Tim, Nolan and Bishop. I have overridden them before too after we secured the scene. Now stay here we don't need you growing a balloon on your face." I did a once over once more then went over to check on Lucy and see the progress of the statement gathering.

We finished everything else just waiting for the back up unit when they did arrive the only thing they stared at was the Captain's face.

"Nice, won't be long before we hear about this from the others at lunch." I groaned as I handed the suspect over.

"Lucy drive us back to the station while the Captain works with that ice pack." I said while sliding into the shops back seat.

The 20 minute drive from here to the station felt like an hour because Lucy felt guilty the entire time.

"I shouldn't have ducked." Lucy apologized.

"I sorry Cap but also not sorry years of working with rangers where they rough housed a lot and a lot of surprise starts to the sparing matches trained me with that." I spoke up before shutting up when the captain looked over at me laughing

"Relax. It was instinct."

"I should've been the one to duck."

"Guess I'm a little rusty."

"Well, it's understandable. I mean, you're stuck in your office most of the day." Lucy said.

"Actually, um, I didn't always push a desk. You know, I was in Marine Corps MOS 5803. Military police. That's where I learned how to speak Farsi."

"Well, I didn't know you were in the Marines. I-I thought that you were just from another department back east somewhere."

"Ah, Marines that makes more since now. I knew you served just didn't know what branch."

"Not far off either did a year as Pentagon Police, Criminal Investigation Directorate. Then I moved back home, joined the LAPD. Moved up quickly because of my experience, but that means I didn't move through the ranks with these guys, so they don't see me as a cop, only as a boss."

"You should tell people about that. You sure as hell wouldn't have cops flying in to rescue you."

"You don't tell people that you're a badass, Officer Chen. Just got to show 'em."

"Hey, not for nothing, lady, that shiner's pretty badass."

"Shut your mouth."

"I mean he's not wrong Captain." I said nodding with the suspect. Getting a head shake from her before she took off ahead of me.

We get buzzed into the booking room getting a crowd around us.

"Whoa." Jackson said surprised and stunned.

"Captain took a shot to the face." Lopez said out loud attracting new people to look.

"All right, all right. Show's over. Everybody get back to work." an officer came and took Javier from us and cuffed him to a seat. "Thank you."

Andersen's phone beeps before we start the processing process.

"Bad news?" Lucy asked.

"Uh, no, I just got to get these stats to the Chief. You know, actually, um, do you mind processing our friend till I get this done, and then we'll head back out?"

"yes, ma'am, We will finish then and we will wait for you." I nodded at her.

"Well, I'm fine if you need to stay here, ma'am." Lucy said all worried for the Captain.

"I've got plenty of paperwork to do, so I appreciate that, but I've made a practice of finishing what I've started." She said before heading off to her office.

"What happened?" Jackson asked us while he waited for Lopez.

"We ducked." Lucy answered with a sad sigh.

"What's going on with Lopez and that guy?" Lucy asked.

"It's been a weird day."

"Oh, they are total into each other. hmmm. maybe they will start dating and/or get married." I said after staring at them for a bit.

"Not you too. The man we arrested said the same thing not the married thing but the other stuff." Jackson groaned getting a laugh from Lucy we split up after that to start the processing.

We finish and go back out to get our sidearms and start looking for the Captain seeing her talking to a man at the front desk we start heading over to tell her we are done when the man walks away out of sight. Before we get to the Captain she tenses up and I hear screaming from the lobby and start running to the lobby with Lucy attracting other officers we get there and see a man holding a hostage we pull our weapons followed by Lopez and Jackson. We enter and get clear lines of sight on the man and waited.

"I kill her, I go back inside forever."

"GUN!" I yell out getting other officers involved too.

Razor yells while pushing the gun into the woman's ribs. "I'll kill her."

Andersen tries to talk him down. "All right. Look at me. Hey, hey! You don't want to do this. You don't have to do this."

"I told you. I'll do anything to go back inside."

"Trust me, you're going back in."

"I'm not looking to do a short fall. I can't handle it out here."

"Okay. I get that, I get that. You got a little too much freedom. I felt the exact same way after I left the Corps. Used to being told where to go, what to do, when to eat, when to sleep. Come on. She shouldn't have to suffer 'cause you're going through a crisis. She didn't sign up for that. Put the gun down."

"Bitch, I don't care what she signed up for" Razor yells more agitated now.

"You pull that trigger, I got half a dozen cops who are gonna light you up, and I know you don't want that."

"Shut up!"

"Okay. Okay. I just I have one more one more question. In your previous crimes, did you use a gun?"

"What? Why?"

"You got your safety on." After Andersen says that Razor pulls the gun away to look at it and she rushes him. with me and other officers behind us racing to Razor to disarm him and subdue him.

"Get the gun." Andersen yells while punching his wrist causing him to let go of it.

"I got it, Captain." Lucy yells out

"Turn him over!" we work on getting him turned over and handcuffed

"Holy crap." Lucy says surprised.

"What?" Jackson wondering what surprised Lucy.

"It's a Glock. There's no external safety." I said sitting in one of the seats after we got Razor cuffed and out of the lobby.

"Told you Captain could take care of herself." Lopez said to Jackson.

I jumped up smelling it before seeing it.

"NOPE! I am out here someone got skunked." And before I could leave Tim walked in asking.

"What the hell happened here?"

"Oh, my - Um, did you get skunked?" Lucy asked as officers backed up then started to put distance between them and him.

I booked it out of the lobby away from Tim making it to our shop waiting for the Captain and Lucy so we could go back out. And 20 minutes later they showed up and we left again. other then some plate running we didn't get anything for the rest of the shift.

After I changed I made my way up to the second floor to the Captain's office.

"Knock, knock. Hopefully not interrupting anything important." I said when she let me in.

"No nothing just paperwork."

"I just wanted to say two things Captain. Thank you it was a very informative patrol with you and just to check on the bruise on your face."

Before she could answer Lucy came in. "Hey. Is this a bad time?"

"No. Come in." The Captain said to Lucy.

"Thank you again Captain feel better and see you tomorrow." I said before leaving the office heading home.

"Good Night Officer Alverez."
