Captain Veil listened to Seris's report with his elbows on the desk and his expression doing the work of a man absorbing information he found increasingly troubling. Seris sat across from him with a slice of cake she had acquired from somewhere, eating it with the focused appreciation of someone who had earned this.
"Contamination from King-Tier Abyssal creature flesh," Veil summarized. "That explains the simultaneous outbreak of violent incidents across a single day."
"There's more of it out there." Seris took another bite. "What we found tonight was one fragment among many. The cleanup teams are going to be busy."
