Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: A Warrior’s Respite and the Emotional Rhythm

Inside the sanctuary of the training dimension, where golden sand particles danced in a silent space that knew no night, a heavy silence descended after Zero's dark energy vanished. Eiji stood in the center of the arena, his body trembling with visible frailty. The Eternal Mark on his palm flickered like a dying ember. His hands, which had held the Great Energy Longbow moments ago, were locked in stiffness from the volume of the Pulse he had channeled.

Atsurai (with appreciation mixed with anxiety): "Eiji, you have achieved a feat that transcends our tactical projections. To repel Zero while purifying Karto is a true miracle. But look at the cost. Using the Pulse at this magnitude has drained your temporal core; your existence is fraying. You need to stop before the damage becomes permanent."

Yukari (scrutinizing the holographic readings): "Your vital bio-rhythms are at an all-time low. Returning to combat now is tactical suicide. Your internal vibrations are failing to synchronize with reality. You are literally out of sync with time itself."

Taiso (with fatherly tenderness): "My boy, the rhythm of the Mark needs the nourishment of serenity to repair its roots. Take a leave. Return to your world, to the scent of your home, and the warmth of your family. Reclaim your humanity, Eiji, for that is the only forge strong enough to restore your strength. You cannot protect the world if you lose yourself."

Eiji (with a strained voice): "Thank you... all of you. I feel as though mountains are sitting upon my chest. I need to see my mother, Miyoko. I need to feel that I am still a part of that quiet world where time doesn't hurt."

Atsurai (with a rare smile): "Then, as your Guardian, I officially grant you a furlough. Go and recharge your heart with mundane life. We will reach you should an emergency arise. Enjoy your peace, Eiji."

---

Eiji woke the following morning in his bedroom. Soft sunlight filtered through the curtains, dancing across his face. The chirping of sparrows had replaced the hiss of temporal gates. He descended to the kitchen, greeted by the aroma of freshly ground coffee and warm pastries.

Miyoko (with a warm smile): "You look better today, my love. It's as if a massive weight has been lifted. Tell me, hero... in your 'Family Project', how were your feelings? Do you feel you've gained stability after using those new tools?"

Eiji (with sincere honesty): "Mother, it was a test of my spirit. I faced pressures I never imagined, and almost lost my center. But I discovered that true strength isn't in violence, but in maintaining inner peace amidst the storm. Being here with you helps me find that peace."

In that moment, the Mark in Eiji's eye flashed, and the voice of Grandmother Elara resonated in his mind.

Elara: "Miyoko is your safe harbor, Eiji. Her emotional support protects your rhythm from being eroded by desolate worlds. She is your true shield."

---

After breakfast, Eiji met Aiko, the girl whose brown hair and hazel eyes radiated life force. She was waiting at the street corner in simple summer attire.

Aiko (with a playful reproach): "Eiji! You finally showed up! I was worried—you haven't answered a message in two days. Are you okay? You look as though you've been fighting ghosts in your sleep! Did you forget our plans?"

Eiji (with a calm smile): "I'm fine now, Aiko. My apologies. I was buried in intense training for my grandfather's archives and lost track of time. How about we make it up today? The amusement park is calling!"

Aiko (with enthusiasm): "That is exactly what I wanted to hear! Let's go; let's leave every worry behind and just have fun."

The duo reached the amusement park, a kaleidoscope of joy and music. They began with the "Death Rail" roller coaster. As the cart ascended the peak, Aiko gripped Eiji's hand tightly.

Aiko (laughing through fear): "Eiji, look down! The people look like ants! Tell me... are you even a little bit scared of the drop?"

Eiji (with natural playfulness): "Me? Impossible! But I bet you'll be the one screaming louder when we hit the bottom!"

The cart plummeted with maddening speed. Aiko's shriek pierced the wind while Eiji felt the cool air against his face. For the first time, he wasn't tracking "timelines"; he was savoring velocity and pure laughter. Afterward, they navigated toward the "Haunted House."

Aiko (with a hesitant challenge): "They say no one leaves this place without trembling. Are you ready to be the brave protector, or should I protect you?"

Eiji (with a confident smirk): "I shall be your shield against plastic spiders and hidden actors, don't worry. Just stay close."

Inside, the darkness was absolute. When a "zombie" performer lunged from the shadows, Aiko threw herself into Eiji's arms, laughing and screaming. Eiji felt the drumming of her heart. He didn't see a combat metric; he saw a girl who loved life. It made him smile as he held her close.

They emerged to eat gelato and sit on a wooden bench. Some university friends joined them, and they spent hours joking about exams. Eiji spoke of his desire to study architecture, steering the conversation away from his life as a "Guardian."

Aiko (contemplating the sunset): "You know, Eiji... sometimes you have this strange energy. Like you're the person everyone would run to if something terrible happened. You have this aura of trust—someone born to protect others. It's a heavy thing to carry."

Eiji (with a neutral poise): "Perhaps it's because I'm the 'big brother' figure in our group. Responsibility is part of my nature. I just want everyone to be safe."

Aiko (with a tender smile): "Yes, and that is what I like most about you. But promise me: no matter how big your future becomes, you will always make time for these simple moments of peace."

Eiji (with sincerity): "I promise, Aiko. I will always be here, and I will protect these moments with everything I have. These moments are what truly matter."

They spent the evening on the "Grand Ferris Wheel." From the summit, the world looked beautiful—a far cry from the conflicts of the "Void." Eiji felt his emotional rhythm restored; his heart was finally beating in sync with the natural world.

---

Late that night, silence and moonlight were his only companions. He sat at his desk, the Time Ring glowing with a tranquil light.

Eiji (Internal Thought): "This respite was the true medicine. Now, I feel a mental clarity I haven't known. I am ready to face any dark rhythm, because now I know exactly what—and who—I am fighting to protect. My home is worth the struggle."

Suddenly, the stillness was shattered. Eiji's phone began to vibrate with violent intensity. The screen erupted with sapphire light, and a miniature "Time Gate" symbol appeared. Eiji snatched the device.

Eiji (whispering): "Atsurai! It's beginning already!"

He answered the call, hearing Atsurai's voice muffled by cosmic static.

Atsurai's Voice (straining): "Eiji... can you hear me?.. The leave is terminated! The villain has torn a massive rift in the heart of the capital! The world's Pulse is collapsing... We need the Guardian... NOW!"

The connection severed, and the phone transformed into a pillar of blue light—a portal that exerted a gravitational pull. As he was sucked into the vortex, the scent of coffee and Aiko's laughter vanished, replaced by the roar of a war that had finally arrived at his doorstep.
