Chapter 4 - 004: Tough nut to crack

ADAM

I sat in the reading area of the school library, engrossed in the book before abruptly closing it.

Another failed attempt at finding information about the forbidden scroll.

With a quiet sigh, I reached for another book and began flipping through its pages, though my mind had already drifted far away — back to when everything began.

A day that would forever be engraved in my mind.

The day I was cast down to Earth because of one stupid mistake.

The scroll was the only thing that could possibly redeem me — the only thing that could free me from the guilt that still weighed heavily on my chest.

Though even that might not be possible.

Who would have thought this human body would get drunk after only a few drinks?

Losing the scroll was already bad enough.

But sleeping with a demon… and worse still, a male demon…

That was pure defilement.

Sure, it had happened under the influence of alcohol, but still…

I rubbed my temple in frustration.

For some reason, there was something different about that kid — something I couldn't quite figure out.

And because of that, I had to keep clear boundaries between us.

Just in case.

"Birdbrain."

The word suddenly echoed in my mind.

Before I realized it, a faint smirk appeared on my lips.

That kid really had a talent for getting on my nerves.

At the sound of approaching footsteps, Adam slowly looked up.

A fellow student stood before him — a junior wearing the school's maroon half-sweater over a white long-sleeved shirt and dark grey trousers. His messy chestnut-brown hair suggested he had been rushing around all morning.

Choi Seungha.

The boy bowed respectfully, slightly out of breath from running up the stairs.

"Apologies for the disruption, Senior," he said while catching his breath. "But I believe there's a commotion at the school entrance."

"A commotion?" Adam asked.

His sharp senses picked up faint murmurs outside as students gathered near the front gate.

Something was wrong.

Adam stood and walked toward a nearby window.

Through the glass, he saw a black motorbike pulling up near the entrance — a rare sight at such a prestigious academy.

The rider wore a sleek black leather jacket, slightly unzipped to reveal the school badge pinned to a white shirt underneath.

He was clearly a student.

But who would dare arrive dressed like that?

Adam already had a guess.

But it was only when the rider removed his helmet that his suspicions were confirmed.

Adam sighed.

"Not again."

*. *. *.

Meanwhile, Liam ran a hand through his hair as he looked around the prestigious academy.

The place was every bit as posh as it sounded.

And his rebellious outfit stood out like a sore thumb.

Exactly as he had planned.

As he stepped off his bike, he winked at a group of female students who stared at him in stunned admiration.

At that moment, Adam pushed his way through the crowd and took in the entire scene.

"Hello, Dukesspear High!" Liam shouted dramatically.

"This is Liam Black speaking — your local party animal and newest student ready to turn up the heat!"

The students erupted into cheers.

But Adam knew exactly what Liam was doing.

It was a declaration of war.

A promise that peace would never exist as long as he was around.

Without hesitation, Adam walked over and grabbed Liam by the ear, dragging him toward the school building.

"Ow, ow, ow!" Liam yelped. "Be a little gentle, will you? At this rate I'm gonna end up with elf ears."

He waved dramatically at the girls watching.

"Sorry ladies, gotta go. Catch you on the flip side— OW! Quit it already!"

"No."

Adam dragged him into an empty classroom and locked the door behind them.

"What gives, dude?!" Liam protested. "I was totally killing it out there."

Instead of responding immediately, Adam stepped back and carefully examined Liam's appearance.

His shirt was tucked in on only one side.

The top button was undone.

His tie hung loosely around his neck.

A complete mess.

Liam braced himself for a lecture.

Or yelling.

Or some kind of punishment.

Instead, Adam simply snapped his fingers.

In an instant, the leather jacket vanished.

"There," Adam said calmly.

"That's more appropriate."

"And that's what you get for— wait… what?"

Adam placed a paper in Liam's hands.

"If that's all, here's your class schedule and a map of the school."

He turned toward the door.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a lesson to attend."

He paused at the doorway before adding one last comment.

"Oh, and one more thing."

"Next time, try something less… predictable."

A faint smirk crossed his face.

"It makes things a lot more interesting."

And just like that, he left.

Liam stared at the empty doorway in disbelief.

"What the fuck just happened?"

*. *. *.

For the rest of the day, Liam tried everything he could to make Adam snap.

Starting a food fight in the cafeteria.

Disrupting the quiet reading sessions in the library.

Even pulling the fire alarm.

But nothing worked.

It was as if the temperamental angel he had met before had completely disappeared.

By the end of the school day, Liam sat dejectedly on the bleachers, staring at the empty field.

He had already lost all hope of regaining his freedom.

His mind drifted back to the Underworld.

Life there had been perfect.

Luxury.

Freedom.

Chaos.

He had roamed the entire realm without a care in the world, leaving destruction and scandals wherever he went.

Back then, he always had a reason to keep going.

To maintain his reputation as the rebellious second prince.

But now…

He had nothing.

"LIAM!!"

Before he could react, something slammed into him.

He was tackled straight off the bleachers and sent rolling across the ground.

Groaning, Liam sat up and rubbed the back of his head, trying to identify the person now sitting on top of him.

"N… Nathan?"

"Dude, you almost killed me."

The red-haired demon laughed.

"As if you'd die from falling a few feet."

He pointed at Liam's neck.

"Nice collar, by the way."

"Get off me!" Liam snapped, finally realizing their awkward position.

"Not until you hear me out first," Nathan replied excitedly.

"I just got back from Vegas, and guess what?"

"You're off the wanted list."

"Don't know why, but who cares?"

"One quick flight, a new wardrobe, and we're out of here."

"I swear to God, Nathan, if you don't get the fuck off me right now—"

"Yeah, yeah, I heard you."

Nathan stood up and pulled Liam to his feet.

As Liam dusted himself off, Nathan finally noticed the school uniform.

His eyebrow slowly rose.

Liam sighed and explained everything that had happened since meeting Adam.

By the time he finished, Nathan was struggling not to laugh.

"So you're telling me…" Nathan wheezed,

"The guy you fucked — correction — the guy who fucked you…"

"…was an archangel?"

"And now you're bound to him by contract?"

"And you're acting like a brat just to get him mad enough to kick you out?"

Liam rolled his eyes.

Nathan threw an arm around his shoulders and magically summoned a book.

The cover read:

The Art of Seduction

The elegant red calligraphy practically glowed.

Liam stared at it, confused.

Nathan grinned.

"The best way to get what you want," he explained, "is through the heart."

"Win them over, and they'll be wrapped around your finger."

"As simple as that."

As ridiculous as it sounded, history had proven this strategy worked.

Had it not allowed Cleopatra to control two powerful men who would have given her the moon if she asked?

Or caused emperors to burn entire cities for the affection of their beloved empress?

That…

That was the Art of Seduction.

Liam sighed.

Honestly, he should have expected this idea.

After all, Nathan was an incubus.

Now completely out of options, Liam reluctantly took the book.

Nathan smirked.

"But word of advice."

"Seduction is a double-edged sword."

"One wrong move…"

"And you might be the one who falls."

"Wait, what—"

"Relax. You'll probably be fine."

"Hopefully."

Nathan stretched casually.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have an unattended client waiting in a hotel suite."

"Good luck, buddy."

Later that evening, Liam sat in the backseat of the Rolls-Royce — an order he had been forced to follow by the blonde.

He stared out the window.

But this time, his mind felt calmer.

Determined.

He smiled slightly.

Adam noticed the expression through the rear-view mirror.

It was the first time he had seen Liam genuinely smile.

The sight held his attention a little longer than it should have.

Then Adam quickly looked away and started the engine.

In the backseat, Liam smirked to himself.

Let the seduction begin.
