Unlike conventional magic, Ancient Magic was an exceedingly rare power, far more chaotic and powerful than the spellcraft wielded by modern wizards.
Take the protagonist of Hogwarts Legacy, for example. By the late game, they killed people as casually as eating or drinking. As long as their magic meter was full, they could wipe out dozens of enemies on the way to class without breaking stride.
The sort of power that would make Grindelwald weep and Voldemort collapse in despair.
And what she had just seen—that vision, and the word that had suddenly forced its way into her mind…
No. That was no hallucination.
Vera stared blankly at her restored wrist, her fingertips brushing lightly over the patch of skin that had once been covered in scars. It felt smooth and cool, as though it had never been burned by potions at all.
The pale golden lines had already completely vanished, yet that strange sensation of power still flowed deep within her veins.
She slowly clenched her fist and could clearly feel an unprecedented strength surging through her body.
Lifting her head, she looked toward the full-length mirror in the corner of the room.
The girl in the reflection was pale and thin, her silver-gray wavy hair plastered messily against her sweat-damp forehead.
And those eyes—eyes that should have been the dark black of the Black family—were now rimmed with the faintest golden glow, as though some ancient magic were burning in the depths of her pupils.
Vera stared at the altered eyes in the mirror, her fingers unconsciously rising to touch the corner of one eye. The golden halo disappeared in an instant like an illusion, yet it left a searing afterimage on her vision.
The room fell silent.
Then suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her wrist.
Vera frowned at once. The golden lines that had just faded away reappeared on her wrist. This time, they were no longer just simple veins of light—they slowly gathered together into a line of text:
[Magic Circuit Activated]
The words flickered once, then broke apart into tiny motes of light and scattered into the air.
Vera's breathing stalled.
She abruptly realized that the flow of magic inside her body had become clearer than ever before.
She could see it now.
The magic stored within her, once vague and elusive like mist, was now slowly flowing through her veins, bones, and nerves like illuminated rivers of stars. In the end, it all converged near her heart, forming a miniature magic circuit.
And at the center of that circuit—at the very place where her heart was—there floated a tiny crystal.
The very same crystal she had seen in that formation just now.
A string of incomprehensible text poured out like flowing water. Vera pressed her lips together in silence, then after a moment spoke in a hoarse voice:
"If this is supposed to be an inheritance, then explain it to me in a form I can understand."
The crystal seemed to understand her. Ripples spread across its surface, and the obscure writing gradually reorganized itself into English she could read:
[Heir, welcome to the world of Ancient Magic.]
[You have passed the trial and obtained the qualifications to inherit it.]

The crystal gave off a faint resonance inside her body, and a new line of text appeared across her vision.
Vera's fingers unconsciously tightened, making the wheelchair armrest creak softly.
This was practically… some kind of game interface.
She narrowed her eyes and tried issuing a command in her mind.

The crystal trembled lightly, and more text appeared:

Vera came back to herself and only then realized that her nails had dug so deeply into her palm that they had left marks.
She slowly opened her hand and stared at the crescent-shaped cuts in her palm.
They were healing visibly before her eyes, faint golden light flickering beneath the skin.
So this was the Basic Healing granted by the Magic Circuit…
"Miss?"
Kreacher's voice came through the door.
"Are you all right? Kreacher brought the chocolate cake you like…"
Vera quickly composed herself and tugged her sleeve down to cover the skin on her wrist.
"Come in."
The door creaked open, and Kreacher entered carrying a small silver tray. On it sat an exquisitely made slice of chocolate cake.
In truth, the habit of eating chocolate cake after taking medicine to suppress the bitter taste was something the original little Vera had done.
As for her…
In the mere three days since she had arrived in this body, aside from basic food needed to keep herself alive, she had had no interest whatsoever in trying sweets like this.
Which was why, over the past few days, the untouched chocolate cake had always ended up being carried away and eaten by Kreacher instead.
But now…
Vera's gaze fell on the cake, and as the chocolate aroma spread through the air, her stomach tightened involuntarily.
She actually felt the urge to try it.
Kreacher carefully set the silver tray on the bedside table, his cloudy eyes nervously studying Vera's pale face.
Vera reached out, picked up the silver fork, and cut off a small piece of cake.

The taste memory of this body had been completely awakened, as though every cell in her body were cheering.
"Miss… do you like it?" Kreacher asked, nervously twisting the edge of his tea towel. "Kreacher has made quite a few improvements these past few days…"
Vera gently set down the fork, a genuine smile appearing at the corners of her lips.
"It's delicious. Thank you, Kreacher."
Kreacher's eyes instantly filled with tears. He bowed deeply, the tea towel nearly dragging on the floor.
"It is what Kreacher ought to do! It is enough that Miss likes it!"
Vera did not interrupt his muttered rambling. She took another two bites of cake before speaking softly.
"Kreacher, prepare clothes for going out tomorrow. I… need to make a trip to Diagon Alley."
