Chapter 42 - Chapter 3 – Leviathan Hunt

Ashes of the Silent War: Rise of the Abyssal Architects

Chapter 3 – Leviathan Hunt

The frozen wastelands stretched endlessly, a white desert punctuated by jagged ice cliffs and crevasses that threatened to swallow the unwary. Kael Varden and the Leviathan Hunters moved with precision, leaving behind a trail of energy markers and reconnaissance drones. The Abyssal Titan they had faced at the research station had vanished beneath the snowstorm, but Kael knew it was still active—hunting, calculating, and adapting.

Lyra hovered nearby in her drone canopy, scanning the shifting ice and monitoring Titan energy traces. "Kael… its power signature is spreading across multiple zones. Whatever this thing is, it's learning faster than any Titan we've fought before."

Kael's jaw tightened. "Then we hunt it before it finds the settlements."

Tracking Across the Frozen Zones

The Leviathan Hunters split into triad squads to cover more ground. Kael led Squad Omega, moving across the frozen ridges, while Squad Nova and Squad Echo tracked secondary energy traces and protected critical civilian research outposts.

Massive claw prints and glowing fissures in the ice marked the Titan's path. Each step radiated residual energy, enough to destabilize the environment. Crevasses opened suddenly, forcing Hunters to leap across gaps or use grappling hooks to swing to safety.

Kael paused, examining a cluster of glowing fractures. "It's using its energy system in ways I've never seen. Look at these patterns… it's almost like it's rewriting its own armor in real-time."

Lyra analyzed the data. "Not just rewriting—it's integrating… old Architect designs. These nodes and energy pathways predate Voss' network. Whoever built this Titan had knowledge of the original Architect technology. If we destroy it without understanding, we could trigger a catastrophic energy feedback."

Kael nodded grimly. "Then we learn its weaknesses while we hunt. Precision over brute force."

The First Oceanic Leviathan Squad

Suddenly, the ice shifted violently. Waves surged under the frozen surface, cracking the ice sheets with explosive force. From beneath the glacier, three massive oceanic Leviathans breached the surface. Their bodies glistened black with bio-metal plating, and glowing crimson energy ran along their spines.

"Surface Leviathans… we've never fought oceanic units before," Kael muttered, activating his exosuit thrusters. "Squads, intercept! Protect the settlements at all costs!"

The Hunters engaged immediately. Plasma blades and rail lances clashed against the bio-metal hulls of the oceanic Leviathans. Ice and debris exploded in every direction as massive claws smashed through research outposts.

Lyra's drones circled the battlefield, firing concentrated energy disruptors. "Kael… the nodes along their lateral fins—if overloaded, they'll temporarily lose mobility. Aim for those!"

Kael leaped across an icy fissure, landing on a collapsing outpost roof, and slashed at the closest oceanic Leviathan's fin node. Sparks erupted as the Titan staggered, throwing it off balance for a critical few seconds.

Protecting Research & Settlements

Across the frozen zones, smaller Leviathan Hunter squads evacuated scientists and civilians from scattered research stations. Squads Delta and Echo coordinated, using portable energy shields to protect escape routes while Lyra's drones neutralized approaching Titans.

One station was destroyed in a single swipe from a Titan claw, burying experimental data under snow and ice. Survivors were pulled out just in time. Kael grimaced. "Every minute counts… and every mistake costs lives."

Lyra transmitted a warning to all squads: "The Architects aren't just attacking—they're testing us. Every movement is calculated to push us into traps. Keep your formation tight!"

Hints of Ancient Architect Tech

While stabilizing the battlefield, Lyra noticed faint residual energy signals embedded in the Titans' armor. "Kael… these conduits… they're not just power lines. They're ancient Architect circuits. Whoever built these Titans integrated adaptive combat AI, possibly with self-repair functions and predictive battle algorithms."

Kael's eyes darkened. "So the Architects aren't gone. They left a blueprint… and it's coming to life against us."

The Hunters regrouped, surrounding the oceanic Leviathans in a coordinated pincer. Kael activated his exosuit's energy disruptor, synchronizing with Lyra's drone pulses. Sparks, arcs, and deafening roars filled the frozen sky as the Titans staggered—but they were not defeated, only delayed.

A War Spreading Across Continents

From the northern ice wastes, faint energy pulses traveled deep into the ocean and across the polar grid. It was subtle, almost imperceptible, but it hinted at the global scale of the Architects' plan. Other Leviathan units, some submerged, some buried beneath ice, began to stir.

Kael stood atop a ridge, watching the horizon. "This is only the beginning. If the Architects have an army beneath the oceans, and they're waking it… humanity isn't just fighting Titans anymore. We're fighting the creators themselves."

Lyra's voice was calm, but tense. "Then we fight smarter… faster… and harder. Because if we fail, this continent—and possibly the world—falls."

The Leviathan Hunt had begun, but the true scope of the Abyssal Architects' war was only starting to reveal itself. Humanity's survival was no longer guaranteed.
