Chapter 8 – Titans' Eclipse
The deep ocean trenches were a graveyard of shadows and steel. Kael Varden's Leviathan Hunter dropship cut through the black waters, its hull groaning under immense pressure. Below, the central network hub of the Abyssal Titans pulsed with an eerie, crimson energy.
"Lyra," Kael barked over comms, "status on the hub?"
Lyra's voice was tight with tension. "It's massive. Energy readings indicate planet-scale synchronization is imminent. Every active Titan on every continent is being pulled toward the network. If we don't sever the hub, every city will fall at once."
Kael's eyes narrowed. "Then we strike now. Full assault—no holding back."
Approaching the Central Hub
The trench narrowed as the Hunters descended. Massive steel and energy spires stretched from the ocean floor, forming a lattice of interconnected circuits. At the center, a glowing core radiated pulses that traveled through conduits extending across oceans and glaciers. The scale of the network was staggering.
Kael gestured to his squad. "We split—Omega to the core, Nova and Echo on the flanks. Lyra, give us every advantage we've got."
Lyra tapped into the Leviathan tech embedded in their exosuits. "I'm pushing the destabilizers beyond rated output. If it works, we can sever the hub's control—but the feedback could fry everything, including us."
Kael smirked grimly. "Then it's perfect."
Planet-Scale Titan Synchronization
The hub's activation triggered an immediate reaction. Across the globe, Leviathans began moving in perfect synchrony. Oceanic Titans rose simultaneously in the northern, equatorial, and southern waters. Subglacial Titans breached icy continents, while mountain-based Leviathans shifted toward major human settlements.
"Synchronization confirmed," Lyra said, her voice tense. "If the hub stays online for another fifteen minutes, every Titan will become a single coordinated force."
Kael clenched his fists. "Then we don't have fifteen minutes. Move!"
The Battle Splits
The Hunters fanned out, each squad engaging multiple Titans at once. Kael and Omega charged toward the core, slashing through waves of abyssal attackers. Sparks, plasma arcs, and ice explosions lit the trench in surreal flashes of color.
Nova and Echo fought desperately on the flanks, their destabilizers overloading lateral nodes to give Kael a narrow path. Several Hunters were thrown into the abyss by adaptive Titan strikes. Kael leaped between spires, cutting through energy conduits while dodging crushing blows.
"Kael!" Lyra's voice rang out over the comms. "I've found hidden functions in the Leviathan tech—the original creators left backdoors in the nodes. If we activate them, we can sever the Architects' control remotely."
Kael's eyes burned with determination. "Then we do it. I don't care what it costs."
The Hidden Leviathan Functions
Lyra guided Kael to a cluster of core nodes. Using a combination of energy pulses and Leviathan tech backdoors, she began destabilizing the hub's control grid. The Titans convulsed, their synchronization faltering.
"Almost… there!" Lyra shouted. "Just one more pulse and the network should fracture—temporarily."
The feedback was massive. Titans across continents staggered violently, some collapsing entirely, others swimming or climbing out of the oceans to regain balance. Energy arcs tore through the water and ice, shaking continents with sonic booms.
Kael barely held onto a collapsing spire. "It's working—but the Architects won't let it stay down for long!"
First Multi-Continental Battle
Across the globe, the faltering hub gave humanity a window of opportunity. Cities and settlements launched counterattacks, while Leviathan Hunters pushed their upgraded destabilizers to extremes. Coastal cities fired energy barrages; ice fortresses activated emergency shields; subterranean outposts released massive rail cannon strikes.
Lyra monitored the network. "The Architects' plan is bigger than we imagined—they've been integrating remnants of the original Leviathan creators' technology into the Titans. Whoever they were, their designs allow instantaneous adaptation. If we don't destroy the hub entirely, we'll face an even deadlier generation of Titans next."
Kael's voice was a growl. "Then we finish this fight here. Every node, every conduit, every Titan—obliterate or disable it. Humanity doesn't survive by waiting."
The trench erupted into chaos: Titans smashed, Hunters fought, energy destabilizers pulsed, and Lyra's drones flashed in brilliant arcs. The Titans' Eclipse had begun—the first true multi-continental battle of the Abyssal War, and the deadliest yet.
