Chapter 74 - Chapter 3 – Leviathan Pursuit

The void of space had become a predator's hunting ground. Humanity's fleets scoured three galaxies simultaneously, chasing the fleeing Progenitor Leviathan fleet—the first line of what Kael now called the Cosmic Armada. Each fleet engagement revealed Titans more adaptive, more destructive, and more intelligent than any encountered before.

Kael stood on the bridge of the Eclipse Vanguard, scanning subspace readouts as the fleet's Leviathans moved in formation. The battle damage from the first interstellar strike was extensive: orbital stations shattered, fleets reduced to half strength, and countless colonies evacuated. Yet Kael's eyes burned with determination.

"Lyra," he said, pointing to a cluster of energy readings far ahead. "That's them—the Armada's path. They're moving toward the Perseus Rift. We can't let them regroup. Not again."

Lyra's fingers flew over the interface, activating long-range destabilizers on the Eclipse Vanguard and linking orbital Leviathans across multiple systems. "Kael… I've analyzed their synchronization patterns. They're splitting their consciousness across all Titans in the Armada—each one a node of their intelligence. Every time we hit one, another adapts instantly. If we aren't careful, they'll lead us into a trap."

Kael clenched his jaw. "Then we don't chase blindly. We anticipate. We strike where they least expect."

The Multi-Galaxy Chase Begins

The Leviathan Hunters split into three coordinated task forces, each assigned to intercept portions of the Progenitor fleet:

Task Force Alpha – Sol Prime Pursuit

Kael personally led the front, engaging two massive Leviathans whose crystalline armor reflected entire fleets' energy beams.

Orbital Leviathans dove from orbit, grappling Titans with quantum-phase energy tethers, while Kael maneuvered his exosuit to destabilize core lattice nodes.

Planetary debris and space station remnants littered the battlefield as the Titans' energy discharges tore through everything.

Task Force Beta – Frostveil and Oberon Reach

Lyra oversaw operations from the command satellite, coordinating Leviathan Hunters to intercept oceanic and subglacial Titans emerging from deep-space cryogenic nodes.

Using her upgraded destabilizers, she pushed Leviathans' adaptive cores to the limit—shorting energy conduits mid-battle to temporarily neutralize them.

However, multiple Crimson Obsidian factions attempted to hijack destabilizer nodes, forcing Lyra to multitask between Titan suppression and rogue human interference.

Task Force Gamma – Aurora Spire Outpost

Rogue Aegis Collective forces attempted a coup, trying to seize control of Leviathan Hunter units mid-pursuit.

Kael had to redirect a portion of his forces to prevent internal sabotage, engaging human combatants with orbital Leviathans in zero-gravity melee.

New Deadlier Titans Emerge

As the pursuit extended deeper into uncharted space, humanity encountered new Progenitor Leviathan variants:

Nova Colossus: A planetary-sized Titan capable of manipulating gravitational fields, warping the trajectories of entire fleets.

Quantum Wraiths: Semi-ethereal Titans that phased in and out of reality, avoiding direct attacks and appearing unpredictably in multiple systems.

Sentinel Lattice Titans: Progenitor-built command units that coordinated other Titans' energy networks in real-time, effectively acting as mobile intelligence hubs.

Kael realized that direct attacks were increasingly dangerous. "We can't destroy them all," he muttered. "We have to force them into zones where we can control the fight—and separate their network nodes."

Lyra, monitoring the energy patterns, added: "If we can sever the Sentinel Lattice connections, even temporarily, we can isolate individual Leviathans for destruction… but it requires precision and near-instantaneous coordination across light-years."

Interstellar Traps and Ambushes

The pursuit was not without peril:

Entire sectors were rigged with Progenitor subspace traps, capable of destabilizing human ships and Leviathans in seconds.

Orbital nodes, previously assumed dormant, suddenly activated, generating planet-scale shockwaves that forced Kael to maneuver fleets through collapsing star systems.

Several Leviathans fell victim to phase-displacement fields, vanishing for minutes before rematerializing in unexpected locations, attacking isolated human fleets.

Kael's tactical genius was tested like never before. "Split the fleet into overlapping vectors," he commanded. "Use decoy nodes. Engage Titans on my mark. Timing is everything—if we're even a second off, we lose systems… maybe galaxies."

Factional Treachery Escalates

Humanity's divisions became painfully evident:

Crimson Obsidian attempted to sell destabilizer blueprints to rogue systems, forcing Kael to dispatch Leviathans to intercept their convoys mid-chase.

Aegis Collective, seeing humanity's fleets stretched thin, tried to commandeer orbital Leviathans without consent, nearly sparking interstellar conflict among humans while Titans raged around them.

Lyra had to hack both rogue human systems and Progenitor network nodes simultaneously, creating deadly three-way battle conditions across multiple galaxies.

Lyra's Breakthrough

During a desperate maneuver near the Perseus Rift, Lyra discovered a latent function in the Progenitor Titans' energy cores:

By resonating destabilizer frequencies with cosmic background radiation, she could create a temporary phase window—a chance to cut individual Titans off from the Progenitor intelligence network.

The process was extremely risky: even a slight miscalculation could collapse entire planetary systems or destroy human Leviathans.

She called to Kael: "This is it! We have one shot to isolate the Nova Colossus in the Sol Prime sector. If we succeed… we can slow their advance. But one error and we lose everything."

Kael's expression hardened. "Then we do it perfectly. Humanity's survival depends on it."

Chapter 3 – Closing

The first Leviathan pursuit ended with a pyrrhic success:

One Nova Colossus was temporarily isolated and destabilized, but human fleets suffered catastrophic losses.

The Progenitor intelligence network adapted immediately, rerouting remaining Titans and forcing Leviathan Hunters to retreat to regroup.

Factional infighting nearly escalated into all-out civil war, as opportunistic human groups attempted to seize control of weakened nodes.

The scale of the conflict became unmistakably clear: this was not just an interstellar war—it was a multi-galaxy apocalypse in slow motion, and humanity had no room for error.

Kael stood on the bridge of the Eclipse Vanguard, watching the retreating Progenitor fleet. His voice was grim, yet resolute.

"They're not just Titans… they're a test. And if we fail, this galaxy—and every galaxy connected to it—dies. Lyra… we have to prepare for a war unlike anything anyone has ever seen."

Lyra's fingers hovered over the console, analyzing thousands of subspace nodes. "Then we prepare… and we hit them harder next time."

The chase had only begun, but the war was already galactic in scale, brutal in scope, and humanity's survival hung by a thread.
