The rain finally stopped late that night.
Outside, the streets of Shanghai glistened under the streetlights, reflecting gold and silver across the wet pavement.
Inside the flower shop, the air felt strangely quiet.
Zhen Wei finished his phone call and slipped his phone back into his pocket. When he turned around, Lian Hua was standing by the window, looking outside at the calm streets.
"You should go home," she said softly without turning around. "It's already late."
Zhen Wei walked closer.
"I will," he replied. "But not yet."
Lian Hua turned to face him.
"You really are stubborn."
"I warned you about that."
She laughed quietly, but her heart was beating faster again. Being alone with him in the dimly lit shop made everything feel more intense than usual.
Zhen Wei stopped only a few steps away from her.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then he said quietly,
"Earlier… when I said something was about to change… I meant it."
Lian Hua felt a nervous warmth spread through her chest.
"You say a lot of mysterious things," she replied.
"That's because you keep pretending you don't understand."
Her eyes widened slightly.
"Pretending?"
"Yes."
He stepped a little closer.
"You know exactly what's happening between us."
The space between them grew smaller.
Lian Hua swallowed softly.
"Zhen Wei…"
"Yes?"
"You're standing very close."
"I know."
"You should probably step back."
"Do you want me to?"
The question hung in the air.
She hesitated.
And that hesitation told him everything.
Zhen Wei slowly lifted his hand, gently brushing a loose strand of hair away from her face.
The touch was soft, careful.
Lian Hua's breath caught slightly.
His voice lowered.
"You're nervous."
"A little."
"Because of me?"
"Yes."
He looked at her with a mixture of warmth and something deeper.
"That's a dangerous thing."
"Why?"
"Because it makes me want to do this."
He leaned closer.
Lian Hua's heart pounded.
She could feel his presence so clearly now—the warmth, the closeness, the quiet intensity that always surrounded him.
Her eyes lifted to meet his.
For a moment, the world outside the shop seemed to disappear.
Zhen Wei paused just inches away.
He was giving her time.
Time to step away if she wanted.
But she didn't move.
And that was the moment everything changed.
He leaned in slightly—
But suddenly the bell above the door rang loudly.
Both of them stepped back in surprise.
The door swung open.
Chen Kai stood there, slightly wet from the rain.
He looked between them.
The distance.
The tension.
The way they were standing.
And immediately understood what he had just interrupted.
A slow smile appeared on his face, though there was something sharp in his eyes.
"Wow," he said casually.
"Did I come at a bad time?"
Lian Hua's face turned bright red.
Zhen Wei, however, looked completely calm again.
But the atmosphere had changed.
Chen Kai stepped inside, glancing between them again.
"Looks like I missed something interesting."
Zhen Wei's gaze hardened slightly.
"You always appear at inconvenient times."
Chen Kai shrugged.
"Maybe."
Then he looked at Lian Hua.
"Or maybe I just have very good timing."
The fragile moment that had almost happened was gone now.
But one thing was certain.
All three of them knew the truth now.
Lian Hua and Zhen Wei were dangerously close to crossing a line.
