Chapter 110 - Chapter 110

Nick Fury stared at the flood of online chaos and rubbed his temples.

"This kid just keeps escalating," he muttered.

Noah Vale wasn't just a problem anymore.

He was becoming a variable no one could predict.

And that made him dangerous.

The door opened.

Phil Coulson stepped in, a stack of reports in hand. His usual calm demeanor held—but there was something off in his eyes.

Something close to disbelief.

"Director," Coulson said, placing the documents on the desk. "The research results are in."

Fury glanced up. "The internal energy study?"

Coulson nodded.

"And?"

He hesitated for half a second.

"Human bodies don't have meridians."

Fury leaned back slightly.

"…Come again?"

Coulson exhaled slowly.

"Before training, there's no physical structure in the body that matches what the book describes. No pathways. No system. Nothing we can detect."

Fury's expression hardened.

"Then how are people using it?"

"That's the point," Coulson said. "They aren't using something that exists."

He tapped the report.

"They're creating it."

Silence.

"The act of learning the technique," Coulson continued, "actually alters the body. It generates a new internal structure—what the book calls meridians."

Fury sat up straighter.

"You're saying the system doesn't exist until someone starts training?"

"Yes."

Coulson's voice was steady now, but the implications hung heavy.

"We've run multiple tests. Subjects who haven't been exposed to the material show nothing. But once they begin practicing—even at the earliest stages—we start detecting changes."

He paused.

"It's like an infection. The knowledge rewrites the body."

Fury didn't respond immediately.

For the first time in a while, he looked genuinely unsettled.

"And animals?" he asked.

"They show nothing," Coulson replied. "Our working theory is that they can't process the concepts required to initiate the change."

Fury leaned back again, slower this time.

"Meaning billions of people…"

"Have already been altered," Coulson finished.

A long silence followed.

The scale of it was staggering.

This wasn't just a new technique.

It was a global transformation.

"And we don't know how it works," Fury said quietly.

"No," Coulson admitted. "And we don't know if there are limits… or fail-safes."

Fury's fingers tapped against the desk.

"If there's a backdoor built into it…"

He didn't finish the sentence.

He didn't need to.

After a moment, he exhaled.

"…Add Noah Vale to the Sentinel Program watchlist."

Coulson nodded. "Understood."

There was no approval in his expression.

Only necessity.

"Status on the program?" Fury asked.

Coulson straightened slightly.

"Progress is ahead of schedule. With Dr. Reed Richards assisting, we've resolved the instability issues when integrating mutant genetic material."

Fury's attention sharpened.

"Specifically?"

"We've stabilized energy absorption traits," Coulson said. "Theoretically, we can now replicate abilities similar to Sebastian Shaw's."

Fury's eyes narrowed.

That was significant.

"Next phase?"

"Further integration," Coulson replied. "We're exploring additional genetic combinations—Quicksilver's speed, among others. Though there are limits. Some genetic profiles are already at capacity."

Fury let out a low breath.

Stryker's collection had been extensive.

More than extensive.

It was a catalogue of some of the most dangerous abilities on the planet.

"Stack enough of those together…" Fury murmured.

"…and you get something unstoppable," Coulson finished.

Fury didn't disagree.

For a moment, Noah Vale seemed smaller in comparison.

Contained.

Manageable.

If the Sentinels work… nothing else will matter.

At the factory—

Noah stood shirtless, resting between sets.

Across from him, Rogue had her hand pressed lightly against his arm, absorbing energy.

To her, it felt like tapping into a storm.

To him, it barely registered.

"Marie," Noah said suddenly, "do you think death is an end… or just a state?"

She blinked.

"…What?"

He tilted his head slightly, thinking out loud.

"Biologically, death is when the body stops and the brain shuts down. But what if that's just… a condition?"

He glanced at her.

"Something reversible."

Rogue frowned.

"That doesn't sound right."

Noah continued anyway.

"When I get injured, my body adapts. It recovers stronger."

A pause.

"So what happens if the damage is… total?"

Rogue pulled her hand back slightly.

"You're not seriously thinking about testing that, are you?"

Noah smiled faintly.

"Relax. I'm not that reckless."

Not yet.

She didn't look convinced—but she didn't argue further.

Noah turned his attention to the massive hydraulic system nearby.

The machine had reached its limit.

It couldn't push him any further.

"Shut it down after tomorrow," he said. "We'll need a new environment."

He glanced at the technicians.

"And keep everyone here contained. No unnecessary movement."

Then he pulled out his phone.

Scrolled.

Stopped.

And pressed call.

On the screen—

A single name.

Professor X.
