Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Medical Training Class

A few minutes later, after hearing Hyuga Homon recount the details of the duel that had taken place at the Ninja Academy, Hizashi Hyuga fell into deep thought.

He stood quietly in the courtyard, arms crossed as he replayed the scene in his mind.

"I see…" Hizashi finally said after a moment. "This situation is rather unusual."

Homon watched him nervously.

Hizashi glanced at his younger cousin and spoke calmly.

"I'll think carefully about this matter first. When I reach a conclusion, I'll tell you."

He placed a reassuring hand on Homon's shoulder.

"For now, focus on your training. In battle, victory and defeat are both common occurrences. Don't let a single loss shake your confidence."

"Yes, Brother Hizashi."

Homon bowed respectfully before leaving the courtyard.

After his cousin departed, Hizashi remained standing beside the battered wooden training dummy.

The dummy was covered in dents and cracks from his earlier Gentle Fist practice.

Hizashi stared at it absentmindedly.

The Byakugan failing to see through a Transformation Technique…

That possibility shouldn't exist under normal circumstances.

Unless…

Hizashi narrowed his eyes slightly.

"…Interesting."

After pondering the matter for a while longer, he shook his head.

"There isn't enough information yet."

He tidied the courtyard, wiped the sweat from his hands, and prepared to head out.

Just as he stepped through the doorway—

---

"Achoo!"

Ren sneezed loudly.

At that moment, he was standing outside his house with Rin Nohara, waiting to leave for Konoha Hospital to attend a medical training class.

"…That Obito really is unbelievable."

Rin crossed her arms, clearly annoyed.

"He's late again—even though we agreed on the time yesterday!"

Today she was wearing a light blue blouse, making her look brighter and more energetic than she did at the academy.

But her expression was tense.

Her delicate eyebrows were slightly furrowed with frustration.

Compared to Rin's impatience…

Ren looked completely relaxed.

He stood beside her with both hands behind his head, lazily gazing up at the sky.

He had long expected this situation.

After all—

Obito being late was practically a personality trait.

Expecting him to arrive on time was about as likely as pigs suddenly growing wings and flying through Konoha.

Besides…

Ren wasn't particularly concerned about Obito showing up.

He wasn't attending the class for serious study anyway.

The only reason they were waiting was because Rin insisted.

Time continued to pass.

Finally, Rin glanced one last time toward Obito's house.

The road remained empty.

No spiky-haired boy came running.

Rin clenched her fists in frustration and stomped her foot.

"Forget it!"

"We're not waiting for him anymore."

She turned to Ren decisively.

"Ren, let's go. If we keep waiting, we'll be late for the class!"

"…Alright."

Ren nodded casually and followed her.

---

The two of them walked across a small wooden bridge and headed toward Konoha Hospital.

The hospital building stood near the center of the village.

Although the technological development of the ninja world was somewhat… unusual, the structure of the hospital itself wasn't very different from those in modern society.

As soon as Ren and Rin stepped into the courtyard—

A strong smell of disinfectant filled the air.

Mixed within it was a faint scent of medicinal herbs.

Just as they were about to enter the building—

A breathless voice suddenly shouted from behind them.

"Rin! Wait for me!"

Both Ren and Rin turned around.

Sure enough—

Obito Uchiha was sprinting toward them at full speed.

When he finally reached them, he stopped abruptly and bent over with his hands on his knees, panting heavily.

His iconic goggles were crooked on his forehead.

Sweat soaked his messy spiky hair.

"Obito-kun?"

Rin blinked in surprise.

"Haa… haa…"

Obito struggled to catch his breath.

"Rin… I'm sorry!"

"I ran into some trouble while leaving the house earlier."

He forced a sheepish grin.

"When I got to your house, you had already left. Aunt Mamiya told me you came here… so I ran all the way!"

Rin took a deep breath.

She clearly wanted to scold him.

But after seeing how exhausted he looked…

She sighed.

"…Let's go inside first."

"The training session is about to begin."

The three of them walked into the hospital lobby.

Rin looked around for a moment before approaching the reception desk.

A nurse was busy organizing medical records.

Rin gave her a polite smile.

"Excuse me, Miss."

"We're students from the Konoha Ninja Academy."

"My name is Rin Nohara. This is Ren, and this is Obito Uchiha."

"We registered for today's Basic Medical Ninja Training Course. Could you tell us which classroom we should go to?"

"Auditing students?"

The voice didn't come from the nurse.

Instead, someone spoke from the side.

They turned to see a boy around twelve or thirteen years old.

He wore a Konoha forehead protector, indicating he had already become a Genin.

There were distinctive patches of eye shadow beneath his eyes.

He looked at the three academy students curiously.

"Follow me."

"My name is Momogi."

"I'm attending the class as well. I'll show you the way."

"Thank you very much, Momogi-senpai."

Rin immediately bowed politely.

Momogi nodded and led them down the corridor.

Soon, the group arrived at a classroom.

Inside were about a dozen students.

Most looked like teenagers.

Several wore the Medical Ninja insignia on their uniforms.

They were likely newly trained medical ninja who had graduated within the past year.

"Find any empty seat."

Momogi gestured toward the classroom.

"The class is about to start."

With that, he walked straight to the front row.

Most of the other students sat in the middle rows.

That left plenty of empty seats in both the very front and the back.

Normally, both Ren and Obito preferred sitting in the back.

But Rin walked directly toward the front row.

So the two boys had no choice but to follow her.

After sitting down, Momogi glanced at them briefly.

Then he pushed a book slightly toward Ren and Rin.

The title read:

"Basic Human Anatomy and Trauma Identification."

"You can look at this together," he said.

"Thank you, Senpai."

Ren and Rin nodded gratefully.

Momogi shrugged.

"I've only just become a Genin myself. I'm not much older than you."

"Just call me Momogi."

"Yes, Momogi-senpai."

At that moment—

The medical instructor standing at the podium cleared his throat.

"Everyone, please pay attention."

He began today's lecture.

"In our previous class, we studied the skeletal and muscular structures of the head and neck."

"Today we will move on to the torso, focusing primarily on the internal organs."

He tapped the blackboard with a pointer.

"First is the heart, the most important organ in the human body."

"It is located slightly to the left side of the chest cavity…"

As he spoke, he pointed to a detailed anatomical diagram hanging on the wall.

Beside the podium stood a skeletal model to help illustrate the explanation.

To be honest—

For beginners, this material was quite complex.

Most young ninja didn't receive much formal education.

So terms related to anatomy were extremely difficult.

Rin listened with intense focus.

Her pen moved rapidly across her notebook as she took detailed notes.

Her brows furrowed slightly.

Clearly, she found the lesson challenging.

Obito, however…

Lasted about five minutes.

Then he started fidgeting in his seat.

The complicated diagrams and strange terminology sounded like a completely foreign language to him.

Honestly—

They were even harder to understand than the academy classes.

Eventually, Obito gave up entirely.

He propped his chin on his hand and began secretly glancing at Rin's face.

Meanwhile—

Ren appeared perfectly relaxed.

Because thanks to the books he had read in Konoha's library during childhood, combined with knowledge from his previous life…

Everything the instructor was teaching was basically review material for him.

In fact, in some places he even felt the explanation was overly simplified.

So he didn't bother taking notes.

---

Eventually—

The class ended.

It was time for a short break.

Rin finally set down her pen and rubbed her sore wrist.

Then she looked down at several confusing points in her notes.

After hesitating for a moment, she turned toward Ren.

"Ren…"

"When the teacher explained the branches of the celiac artery and the return path of the splenic vein earlier…"

Her expression looked slightly embarrassed.

"I didn't quite understand it."

"Do you remember how it works?"

Ren glanced at her notebook.

He understood the problem immediately.

"Oh, you mean that part."

He pointed at the diagram.

"The celiac artery mainly branches into three arteries."

"The left gastric artery, the common hepatic artery, and the splenic artery."

"As for the splenic vein, it doesn't return directly to the inferior vena cava."

"It first joins with the superior mesenteric vein."

"Together they form the portal vein."

Ren continued explaining calmly.

"The portal vein then carries the blood into the liver, where it gets processed."

"Afterward, the blood leaves the liver through the hepatic veins and finally enters the inferior vena cava."

He tapped the diagram on the board.

"The picture the teacher used earlier was simplified."

"That's why it's easy to misunderstand."
