Chapter 61 - Ch38- The Name That Broke the Silence...

Chapter 38 — The Name That Broke the Silence

The room had gone quiet again.

The album still lay on the table, the photo of the three girls staring back at everyone under the dim flashlight glow. Outside the mansion, the wind pressed softly against the windows. The electricity had still not returned.

No one spoke.

The conversation about the mysterious third girl had left the room heavy with an uncomfortable silence.

Ash sat with her elbows on her knees, staring down at the carpet.

Lyra looked pale.

The others exchanged uneasy glances.

And Care…

Care had not moved at all.

Her eyes were still fixed on the photograph.

Nova noticed it first.

Care's fingers were gripping the edge of the album so tightly that her knuckles had turned white.

Nova leaned slightly toward her.

"Care…?"

No response.

Nova frowned.

"Care?"

Care blinked.

But she didn't look up.

Her breathing had started to change.

Slow.

Uneven.

The others slowly noticed too.

Cole shifted in his seat.

"Care?"

Still nothing.

Then suddenly Care whispered.

"…Carolyn."

The room froze.

Ash looked up.

"What?"

Care slowly lifted her eyes from the photo.

Her gaze moved across every face in the room.

Ash.

Lyra.

Alex.

Cole.

Joong.

Daisy.

Ben.

Kevin.

Nova.

Her voice was barely audible.

"…Carolyn."

Lyra frowned slightly.

"Yeah… that was her name."

Care inhaled shakily.

Then she said something that shattered the entire room.

"…That's me."

For a moment no one understood what she meant.

Then Kevin blinked.

"…Wait."

Ben straightened.

"What?"

Care's hands began trembling.

"My name…"

Her voice broke.

"…is Carolyn."

The silence that followed was absolute.

Ash stared at her.

Lyra stared at her.

Both of them looked like the ground had just disappeared beneath their feet.

Ash whispered slowly,

"…What?"

Care laughed softly.

But it wasn't a happy laugh.

It was the kind that came when something inside someone had finally broken.

"My full name is…"

She swallowed.

"…Carolyn Patel."

The album slipped from her hands and fell onto the table.

The photo stared back up at them.

Ash's face drained of color.

Lyra's lips parted slightly.

Neither of them spoke.

Neither of them could.

Because suddenly everything made sense.

The eyes.

The stubborn strength.

The quiet loneliness.

The jade pendant.

Ash's voice came out like a breath.

"…No."

Lyra shook her head slowly.

"No…"

Care looked at them.

And the tears finally began falling.

"You didn't recognize me."

Her voice cracked.

"Not even once."

The group sat frozen.

No one moved.

Ash looked like she had been struck.

Lyra's hands began shaking.

"…Carolyn…?"

Care wiped her face roughly.

"Yes."

Her voice trembled but it was clear.

"I was Carolyn."

The little girl in the photo.

The one they had just talked about.

The one they had left behind.

Ben whispered,

"Oh my God…"

Kevin looked completely stunned.

Joong slowly leaned back in his chair.

Daisy's hand covered her mouth.

Alex stared at Care as if he were trying to process a puzzle that had suddenly revealed its final piece.

Nova gently placed a hand on Care's shoulder.

Because she already understood what was coming.

The pain.

Care laughed again weakly.

"You were sitting here…"

Her voice shook harder.

"…talking about her like she was some stranger."

Ash's eyes filled with tears.

"Care—"

"No."

Care's voice suddenly broke louder.

"Don't call me that right now."

The words hit like a slap.

Ash froze.

Lyra looked like she might cry.

Care stood up suddenly.

The room felt smaller.

Too small for the emotions bursting inside her chest.

"You want to know what happened after I left?"

Her voice cracked loudly now.

"Do you?"

No one answered.

Care wiped her tears again.

"I waited."

The words came out like broken glass.

"I waited for you."

Ash's shoulders shook.

Lyra whispered,

"…Carolyn…"

Care pointed at the photo.

"That girl trusted you."

Her voice rose.

"She believed you were her family."

Silence.

Care laughed bitterly.

"Every day after we moved to the new city…"

"I waited."

Her breathing became uneven.

"I thought you would come."

"I thought you would find me."

Her tears fell faster.

"I thought maybe… maybe my best friends would look for me."

Ash's face crumbled.

Lyra's tears finally spilled.

Care's voice dropped to a whisper.

"But you didn't."

The room felt suffocating.

Ash stood up slowly.

"Carolyn we—"

"You stopped."

Care's voice broke again.

"You stopped looking."

Ash couldn't speak.

Lyra whispered shakily,

"We didn't know where you were."

Care looked at them with pain that had been buried for years.

"You didn't try hard enough."

The words landed heavily.

Daisy's eyes filled with tears.

Joong looked away.

Ben rubbed his forehead slowly.

Kevin exhaled sharply.

Nova stayed beside Care quietly.

Because Care was shaking now.

Not just emotionally.

But physically.

Her breathing was becoming uneven again.

Cole noticed immediately.

He stood up.

"Care—"

But Care continued.

Her voice louder now.

"Do you know what it felt like?"

She laughed weakly.

"Being abandoned by your family…"

Her voice trembled.

"And then by the only two people you thought would never leave you?"

Ash covered her face.

Lyra sobbed quietly.

Care's voice cracked loudly.

"I thought I did something wrong."

Her shoulders shook.

"For years."

Her tears fell uncontrollably now.

"I thought maybe I wasn't worth staying for."

The group looked devastated.

Alex quietly clenched his fists.

Joong lowered his head.

Ben looked like he wanted to say something but couldn't.

Kevin swallowed hard.

Care's voice broke completely now.

"I had no one."

Her breathing turned uneven.

"No family."

"No friends."

"Nothing."

She wiped her tears but they kept falling.

"I had to survive alone."

Her voice dropped again.

"I worked."

"I studied."

"I fought for everything."

Her hands trembled.

"Every single thing I have now…"

"…I built alone."

Ash whispered through tears,

"We didn't know…"

Care laughed again.

"That's the problem."

"You didn't know."

Lyra stepped forward slowly.

Her voice shaking.

"…Carolyn… we were children."

Care looked at her.

"I know."

Her voice softened slightly.

"But I was a child too."

That sentence broke something in the room.

Ash collapsed back onto the sofa.

Lyra wiped her face helplessly.

Care's breathing suddenly hitched again.

Nova immediately grabbed her arm.

"Care."

Cole stepped closer.

"Sit down."

Care shook her head stubbornly.

"I'm fine."

Cole looked at her sharply.

"No you're not."

Her breathing was getting uneven again.

But Care kept talking.

Her voice trembling.

"When I saw that photo…"

She looked at Ash and Lyra again.

"I thought maybe my mind was playing tricks."

Her tears fell again.

"But when you said her name…"

"Carolyn."

Her voice broke.

"I realized something."

The room was silent.

Care whispered,

"You really left me."

Ash sobbed.

"I'm sorry."

Lyra cried too.

"I'm so sorry."

Care finally broke.

Her knees gave slightly.

And she started crying loudly.

Not quiet tears.

Not silent pain.

But the kind of crying that comes when years of buried pain finally explode.

Nova immediately wrapped her arms around her.

Cole moved closer instantly.

The group watched helplessly as Care cried into Nova's shoulder.

Her whole body shaking.

Years.

Years of pain.

Years of loneliness.

All finally spilling out.

Ash cried openly now.

Lyra too.

No one in the room had expected this night to end like this.

But sometimes…

The truth arrives like a storm.

And when it does…

It tears open every wound that was never allowed to heal.

And tonight…

Carolyn's story had finally been heard.
