SF Chapter 93: Rules

"Now that Penny has moved away, life changed a little," Lexi said a bit sadly. "I'm really happy for her, but I miss the almost daily contact we used to have."
"Dani became the person I talk to the most. I truly enjoy his company."
She glanced around before adding, "And our little arrangement."

Daniel and Lexi were lying naked in bed together in his Malibu bedroom, spooning comfortably.
"Dani," she called softly.
"Hmm?" he muttered, immediately sliding his hand toward her more intimate area.
She instantly smacked his hand away.
"Not that," she scoffed. "In a few days there's the Primetime Emmy Awards party. Want to come?"
"Are you asking me out on a date, Miss Daddario?" he teased.
She turned around to face him, completely unfazed. "As a friend."
"So I can flirt with other girls there?" Dani continued provoking her.
Lexi just rolled her eyes. "You can do whatever you want."
He leaned forward and lightly bit her neck. "I was joking. Or… kind of." He smirked.
He paused for a second before continuing.
"I think we should make some rules. Like: I'll never help you get with another guy, and I won't ask you to help me with another girl either."
"I don't want to see you kissing other guys, while with other girls, you need to call me. I totally want to see it!"
She snorted, then thought about it for a moment.
"I don't want you implying anything sexual between us. But you already do that surprisingly well." Lexi mocked how well-behaved he could look when he wanted to.
"About flirting with other girls… I don't care. You can also do it with my coworkers from The O.C. cast, just don't screw me over."
"Maybe it's funny seeing other people's misfortune becoming your target," she mocked.
Dani simply said, "Psychology of girls, number one: even if a guy is only a FWB, a girl still wants other women to desire him too. It's a validation thing."
"I'll make you sleep on the couch, even if this is technically your bedroom," she warned.
But then she returned to the other subject. "About other guys, I'm really not interested in having a relationship right now."
Lexi explained herself more deeply. "I'm eighteen. I have no intention of going to college. And the one thing I know how to do - and want to do in the future - is act. The only thing that pays my bills."
"So like I already told you, I want to be fully committed to this dream. I was okay with you and Penny, and… I'm okay with just you right now."
Dani made an excited face. "Woow, Lexi, you just became hotter!"
She rolled her eyes again, and turned back to the other side.
Dani moved closer and wrapped his arms around her from behind. "But don't forget you're not alone in this. Family. Friends. Me. Especially me." He emphasized the last part pompously.
Then he spoke more seriously. "I understand the idea of wanting to achieve things through your own effort, but don't close doors because of pride or ego."
He continued, "Nothing is really exclusively our own effort in the first place. I like Machiavelli's idea of virtù and fortuna."
"You have incredible fortune for being born gorgeous. Stunning blue eyes. Great genes…" he murmured while slowly sliding his hand along her curvy body.
"But also the virtù to study scripts, take acting classes over and over again, and keep your body healthy."
He finished, "I have no doubts that I only got this far so smoothly because I was born into a wealthy family. My movies too. I just wrote the scripts and threw the rest of the responsibility onto my dad."
"So if you ever need money, just ask me. I have plenty. I'd have no problem supporting a friend who's chasing her dream. Before all this friends with benefits thing, we are friends!"
She suddenly turned around, looked him straight in the eyes, and pulled him into an intense kiss. "Take me," she whispered.
"Girl, I'm here making this whole cool speech, and your response is asking for sex?" He made an offended face.
"You're completely hard," she deadpanned.
"Of course I am. There's a gorgeous naked girl in my bed who's also stroking me. And trust me, Lexi, I'll always get hard for you."
It didn't take him even another second before he pounced on her.

After the two shared a few more intense moments, they laid back down on the bed together again.
"Dani, what's your dream?" Lexi asked, lifting her head slightly.
A bit drowsy, he smirked. "Waking up with you blowing me."
"If you don't want to talk seriously, I'm going to sleep now," she scoffed.
"Hey, it's a little serious. It's still my dream," he defended himself. "But okay, if you want a more elaborate answer…"
"My dream is to live a fulfilling life. Which is basically just a happy life."
He continued, "Money, books, movies, sex, fame, humor, friendships, experiences… they're all part of it."
"I'm not obsessed with legacies, pure art, or being seen as some intellectual figure. Don't get me wrong, I still like winning awards, but I don't make them my main goals."
"As long as I can look back one day and feel like it was all worth it, that's enough for me."
He finished, "So I'll keep writing, making great memories with friends and family, having good sex with beautiful women, and making dumb comments so we can laugh about them later. That's what makes life fulfilling for me."

"Yeah, Dani can really become incredible sometimes," Lexi remarked. "My dumb FWB..."
She finished a little embarrassed, "I might have fulfilled the first dream he mentioned the next morning..."

[Daniel commentary]
"The next morning, I woke up to..." Dani didn't finish the sentence. "It was simply amazing. What is happiness if not small dreams coming true? Small moments you never want to end?"
He soon walked into the living room and started singing 'Life Is Beautiful' together with Charlie, since his brother had also clearly had a 'good night.'
Only Alan was glaring at the duo, while Jake, who had just arrived, looked at them completely confused.
