Chapter 30: Snow Empress
Ice Empress stared at the majestic figure that had appeared in the sky without warning; the Aura rolling off its body was stronger and on a higher level than even Snow Empress!
Within the Far North, Snow Empress could wield the power of a level-99 Limit Douluo!
As long as she stood in the Far North, even Di Tian—publicly hailed as the continent's mightiest Soul Beast sovereign—could do nothing to her.
Born of the heaven-and-earth essence itself, Snow Empress was the noblest and most powerful ruler of the Far North.
She was the purest of spirits.
In truth she ought not to be classed among Soul Beasts, but on Douluo Continent everything besides humans is labeled a Soul Beast.
Within the Far North the land itself doted on her; whenever she fought, heaven and earth fought at her side.
Yet the figure before her now surpassed Snow Empress in both Aura and tier; there could be only one answer—Divine Rank.
Only Divine Rank could possess such power.
As for the other Aura on the ground, she no longer had the mind to care.
"Little Scorpion, you wasted Tianmeng's good intentions."
Electrolux had never thought much of Tianmeng Ice Silkworm; to him something built merely by piling up resources was still just a heap of resources.
But Tianmeng's decisive act moments ago—his clear-cut stance—had won Electrolux's approval.
The extent of that approval was roughly: my precious Disciple is raising a pet; before this I'd only seen the worm as a walking resource pack.
"W-what exactly do you want?"
Ice Empress couldn't remember how many millennia had passed since she last felt fear.
The most recent time had been during her 300,000-year Heavenly Tribulation, when she'd nearly failed and terror had gripped her.
Now, fear beyond compare surged in her heart.
Was she—was she truly about to die?
Ice Empress feared death; if she hadn't, she would have taken human form at the 100,000-year mark and gambled on the path to godhood rather than keep enduring tribulations.
"I don't want much—merely for you to become my beloved Disciple's Soul Ring and Soul Bone."
Electrolux spoke calmly.
Ice Empress's heart plunged into an abyss.
So this truly was farewell, Snow Empress.
She would never again see her, never again press against her.
"However, I can give you one more chance."
"W-what chance?"
"Cooperate with my experiments. You'll lose your Physical Body and exist like Tianmeng; when Yuhao attains godhood he will grant you resurrection—and divinity."
Ice Empress glanced at Huo Yuhao in the distance, his eyes gleaming gold.
"Al—alright, I accept."
She had no choice; her life was in another's grasp.
Refusal meant death—becoming a Soul Ring and Soul Bone.
And don't claim it couldn't be absorbed.
For a Divine Rank powerhouse to claim he could preserve a Soul Ring indefinitely would not surprise her in the least.
Watching Ice Empress yield, Tianmeng Ice Silkworm turned away, unable to look.
Without warning, the sky turned dark.
"Let Bing'er go!"
A cold, beautiful voice came from the horizon.
A slender, elegant figure clad in white flew through the air, confronting Electrolux mid-sky.
It was Snow Empress, sovereign of the Far North.
Her Aura surged; the entire Far North answered her call.
"Interesting."
Electrolux sensed the whole world seemingly rejecting him.
It had been a long, long time since he'd last felt such a sensation.
"Senior, could you release Ice Empress? Anything within my power, I will do for you."
Seeing Ice Empress tightly bound by golden chains and sensing Electrolux's overwhelming, invincible Aura, Snow Empress realized he could stand against the entire Far North.
From the very first glance she knew she was no match for this opponent.
"Oh? Such determination?"
Electrolux replied leisurely.
"Run, Xue'er! Mmph—!"
Electrolux sealed the last trace of Soul Power Ice Empress could muster.
"Senior, as long as you free Bing'er, anything is negotiable."
She had set out to search for Ice Empress; instead she sensed the faint Aura of Tianmeng Ice Silkworm. Knowing Bing'er had been chasing the lucky worm, she reasoned Bing'er might be nearby and rushed over—only to arrive just in time to see Ice Empress captured.
Unable to ignore Electrolux's mighty presence, Snow Empress had no choice but to act.
Bing'er had accompanied her the longest of her endless life and was dearest to her heart.
Throughout the Far North, most species claimed kingship by race alone, yet she had willingly shared the title "Ice" with Bing'er, letting them both be called Empress.
In terms of strength, Titan Snow Demon King actually lagged only slightly behind Ice Empress.
"In that case, offer yourself as a sacrifice—to my Disciple."
Electrolux spoke in a deep voice.
"Senior, your Disciple likely cannot withstand my sacrificial offering."
"That is not your concern; simply carry out the sacrifice."
Snow Empress fell silent.
Within the chains, Ice Empress struggled frantically.
After a long while Snow Empress gazed around at the land she had guarded for hundreds of thousands of years—the place that had birthed her.
"Senior, I can agree to the sacrifice, but could you first release Bing'er?"
"No. Should you play any tricks during the sacrifice and cost my Disciple his life, what then? Perform the sacrifice properly. If anything goes awry—whether this Little Scorpion or your entire Far North—let it all be buried with my Disciple!"
Huo Yuhao's mouth twitched; he could guess what Electrolux was up to—nothing more than indulging a whim.
A month earlier he had explained to Electrolux the concept of Spirit Souls; once Electrolux had a direction for research, Soul Spirits could be developed early.
Often research stalls not because of difficulty, but because there is no direction—endless trial-and-error is needed at the start to find the right method.
With Tianmeng Ice Silkworm as a living example and knowing contracts were vital to the Soul Spirit method, research naturally became easy.
For the first time Snow Empress felt utterly powerless.
Was the being before her truly a god? The increasingly terrifying Aura building around her seemed determined to keep her here forever.
She could not abandon the countless millions of the Far North, nor could she abandon Bing'er.
"Very well, Senior. I can sacrifice myself, but please keep your word—release Bing'er and spare the Far North."
"Naturally. I always keep my word."
Snow Empress flew toward Ice Empress; Electrolux did not stop her—he was confident he could control any situation.
"Bing'er."
Snow Empress reached her side, anguished at the chains cutting into Ice Empress's body.
Ice Empress still could not speak; the chains sealed every ability. All she could do was blink.
"Bing'er, from now on the Far North is in your care. Guard our home well—and Xiao Bai, comfort him; tell him not to grieve, to help you protect the Far North."
As she spoke she stroked Ice Empress's beautiful carapace, tears falling from her eyes.
The chains binding Ice Empress suddenly tightened, making her body convulse in agony.
"Stop! Senior, I'll begin the sacrifice right now!"
The chains instantly retracted, returning to Electrolux and coiling around him.
"Even Soul Beasts show such loyalty—so why is it you…"
"The past is past. Ice Empress, Snow Empress—let's discuss divinity."
