Peter's abilities are definitely going to evolve, and the Spider-Men from across the multiverse are going to be the catalyst for those upgrades. We've already dropped clues about the zombie universe, but I can officially confirm some of our upcoming destinations. We are absolutely visiting the Toei Universe, the 1994 Animated Series Universe, the 1999 Spider-Man Unlimited Universe, the 2008 Spectacular Spider-Man Universe, and a few other deeply weird realities.
Since we are heading into the wider Spider-Verse, here is a quick primer on the universes teased by the author:
The Toei Universe (Earth-51778): In 1978, a Japanese live-action Spider-Man series was produced. Takuya Yamashiro doesn't get bitten by a radioactive spider; he gets his powers from a dying alien from Planet Spider. Oh, and he pilots a massive, sword-wielding mecha called Leopardon.
The 1994 Animated Universe (Earth-92131): This beloved 90s cartoon series introduced an entire generation to Spider-Man. It was heavily censored by the network (no one was allowed to say "kill" or "die," and the police fired lasers instead of bullets).
The 1999 Unlimited Universe (Earth-751263): Spider-Man Unlimited featured Peter Parker stealing a nanotechnology suit to chase Venom and Carnage to Counter-Earth, a planet on the other side of the sun ruled by the High Evolutionary.
The 2008 Spectacular Universe (Earth-26496): Widely considered one of the greatest animated adaptations of the character, The Spectacular Spider-Man perfectly captured the high-school drama and fluid web-swinging action before being tragically canceled after two seasons.
