Chapter 37 - The Royal Wedding

The wedding was held in the great courtyard of the Citadel.

Dragons lined the walls, their scales gleaming in the summer sun. Nobles and commoners alike filled the space, gathered to witness the union of their queen to the man who had stood beside her from the beginning.

Seraphina walked down the aisle in a gown of white and gold, the crown on her head catching the light. The pendant Kestrel had given her rested against her chest, and the ring on her finger seemed to glow with its own inner fire.

Kestrel waited at the altar, his dark hair tied back, his formal attire fitting for the occasion. His golden eyes never left her face as she approached.

The former Queen officiated—a last ceremonial duty before she officially passed into retirement.

"We are gathered here to witness the union of two souls who have already proven their devotion through trials and triumphs," she intoned. "Seraphina Vale of Thornhaven, Queen of Valdren, Guardian of the Barrier. Kestrel of the Black Wing, Dragon Lord, Trainer of Dragonbound."

She gestured to the assembled witnesses. "These two have fought together, bled together, built together. Today, they formalize what has long been true in their hearts."

The vows were simple, personal—words they had written together over long nights of planning.

"I, Seraphina, take you, Kestrel, as my partner in all things. Through fire and shadow, through triumph and defeat, through the long centuries ahead, I choose you. Today, tomorrow, always."

"I, Kestrel, take you, Seraphina, as my partner in all things. Through the storms we've weathered and the calm we've found, through the duty we share and the love that sustains us, I choose you. Today, tomorrow, always."

The former Queen smiled—a rare expression that transformed her stern features. "Then by the power vested in me as the former ruler of this kingdom, I pronounce you joined. You may seal your vows."

Kestrel kissed her, soft and sweet, and the crowd erupted in cheers. Dragons roared their approval, their calls echoing across the valley, and Seraphina felt Pyre's joy flooding through their bond.

It's done, little flame, the dragon said. You're his, and he's yours.

We've been each other's since the beginning.

But now it's official. Now the whole world knows.

The celebration that followed was epic—feasting and dancing, music and laughter. Dragons performed aerial displays that left the crowds gasping. The nobles who had once doubted Seraphina raised toasts to the royal couple.

And through it all, Seraphina held Kestrel's hand, hardly able to believe this moment was real.

"Happy?" he asked, leaning close so only she could hear.

"More than I ever imagined possible." She smiled up at him. "Thank you. For finding me. For training me. For loving me."

"Thank you for being worth finding. Worth training. Worth loving." He kissed her forehead. "Now, let's enjoy our wedding before duty drags us back to reality."

They danced through the night, surrounded by friends and allies and the people they had sworn to protect.

And when dawn finally came, they walked together to the terrace where it had all begun—the place where Seraphina had first faced a dragon, first taken Kestrel's hand, first stepped onto the path that had led her here.

"To new beginnings," Kestrel said, raising an imaginary glass.

"To us," Seraphina replied. "And to whatever comes next."

Through the bond, Pyre's voice echoed softly.

To the three of us, the dragon corrected. Always the three of us.

Seraphina smiled. Always.

The future stretched before them, vast and uncertain and full of possibility.

And they would face it together.
