Chapter 14
My Principal and Cat Are Shapeshifters
Jake had faced:
Alien farmhands
Rooftop combat
Psychic felines
Casual physics violations
But nothing prepared him for the administrative office.
The door read:
PRINCIPAL R. DARKHOLM
He knocked.
"Enter."
He stepped inside.
And immediately regretted having eyes.
Principal Darkholm stood by the window.
Her dress was impeccably tailored.
Structured.
Elegant.
And very clearly engaged in a life-or-death struggle with the concept of fabric tensile strength.
Jake swallowed.
It wasn't revealing.
It just… defied structural engineering.
Which was impressive.
Because she could literally change its molecular composition at will.
Mystique turned slowly.
Her smile was practiced.
Controlled.
Devastating.
"You wished to discuss registration."
Jake nodded.
Mew floated lazily beside him.
"Mew."
The principal's gaze shifted to the pink cat.
Then back to Jake.
"You understand that unregistered legendary-class entities require evaluation."
Jake cleared his throat.
"Yes, ma'am."
Her eyes flickered gold for half a second.
"Good."
She stepped closer.
The room felt smaller.
"Tell me, Mister Calison… did you choose this creature?"
Jake hesitated.
"…It kind of chose me."
Mew nodded proudly.
Mystique circled him slowly.
Her heels made precise, deliberate sounds on the polished floor.
"And do you understand what you are harboring?"
Jake gestured vaguely at Mew.
"A psychic pink chaos deity?"
"Accurate."
Mew beamed.
Demonstration
"Very well," she said smoothly.
"Demonstrate."
Jake blinked.
"Demonstrate?"
Mew floated forward obediently.
Mystique crossed her arms.
"Show me Transform."
Jake inhaled.
"Mew?"
The cat's eyes glowed faintly.
It shimmered.
Shifted.
Reshaped—
And suddenly—
There were two Principals in the room.
Identical.
Posture.
Expression.
Fabric tension physics.
Jake stared between them.
"Oh no."
Both Mystiques tilted their heads simultaneously.
"Interesting," they said in unison.
The duplicate smirked.
Then flexed slightly.
Jake choked.
"Why does it copy the—"
"Full molecular replication," both principals replied calmly.
The duplicate shifted again—
This time into Jake.
Perfect.
Uniform.
Expression.
Mild existential dread.
Original Mystique's eyebrow lifted.
"Impressive fidelity."
Jake pointed at himself.
"This is deeply uncomfortable."
Mew shifted again—
This time into Kara.
Jake immediately looked at the ceiling.
"Absolutely not."
The duplicate Kara flexed casually.
"Mew."
Mystique stepped closer to the transformed Mew.
"Full stat replication?"
Jake nodded slowly.
"It said something about high base stats and full move pool."
The principal's eyes sharpened.
"Of course it does."
Mew shifted back into its small pink form and hovered smugly.
The Reveal
Mystique sighed softly.
Then—
Her skin rippled.
Blue.
Scaled texture.
Yellow eyes fully visible.
Her hair brightened.
No disguise.
Jake blinked.
"…Okay."
She watched him carefully.
"No panic?"
He shrugged weakly.
"I live with a Kryptonian."
"Fair."
She shifted again.
This time into Kara.
Then into Yang.
Then into Jake again.
The transitions were flawless.
Seamless.
Intentional.
She stopped inches from him.
Back to her principal form.
"You see, Mister Calison," she said softly, "I am not unfamiliar with adaptation."
Jake swallowed.
"I gathered."
Her smile widened slightly.
"And yet… you are adjusting remarkably well."
Jake exhaled slowly.
"I had some time to process genre collapse."
She almost laughed.
Almost.
Registration Reality
She returned to her desk.
Sat.
Crossed her legs with deliberate precision.
"Your Mew can be registered," she said calmly.
Jake blinked.
"That's it?"
She steepled her fingers.
"Under conditions."
He stiffened.
"Such as?"
"No public transformations into faculty."
Mew pouted.
"No impersonation of government officials."
Mew pretended innocence.
"And no destabilizing the student competitive ladder."
Jake hesitated.
"…Define destabilizing."
Her gaze sharpened.
"Winning effortlessly."
Jake looked at Mew.
Mew looked away.
Suspiciously.
The Subtle Probe
Mystique leaned back.
"Tell me, Mister Calison… do you intend to compete?"
Jake considered it.
Rooftop duels.
League tournaments.
Gym battles.
Yang's grin.
Blake's quiet glances.
Glynda's analytical stare.
"I think I want to earn it."
Mystique's expression shifted.
Approval.
"Good answer."
She stood again.
And as she walked past him—
Her form flickered briefly into his own.
She leaned close in his voice.
"Be careful who you let copy you."
Then she returned to herself.
Jake felt that sentence in his spine.
Outside the Office
Jake exited slowly.
Mew floated beside him.
"Well," he muttered.
"My principal is a shapeshifter."
"Mew."
"And my cat is a shapeshifter."
"Mew!"
"And somehow you're less intimidating."
Mew beamed proudly.
Jake paused mid-hallway.
"…Wait."
He turned slowly toward the door again.
"Can she register herself as her own Pokémon?"
Mew giggled telepathically.
Jake sighed.
"I need coffee."
At the end of the hallway—
Yang leaned against a locker.
Torchic on her shoulder.
She smirked.
"So. Survive?"
Jake nodded.
"Apparently my cat is overpowered."
Yang grinned wider.
"Good."
She stepped closer.
"We like a challenge."
Blake watched quietly nearby.
Mew floated between them.
Principal Darkholm observed from behind tinted glass.
Two shapeshifters.
One human variable.
Cross-universal convergence.
And the estate on the hill.
She smiled slightly.
This was going to be interesting.
End Chapter 14.
