5 Days Later
In a poor apartment building, Absalon held down a fat man, punching him repeatedly. A mother and her son watched from the corner, both with minor bruises covering their arms and faces.
"Stwo—"
BAM.
Absalon continued to beat the man without hesitation.
"You think beating up your wife and son makes you powerful?" he said, his voice cold. "All I see is a guy who's ugly on the inside and out—taking his drunk anger out on his own family. Afraid to face someone who can actually fight back."
He dropped the man and turned to face the frightened family. Shaking his head, he pulled out a bag containing three wallets, a stack of cash, and a gold necklace.
"Consider this my blessing to you. File a complaint about his abuse to the police and don't forget to mention my name—Absalon."
With that, he broke the man's arms and legs, leaving them twisted like squid tentacles. The fat man howled in pain but couldn't move.
John vanished at hypersonic speed, heading to a different location—a much nicer apartment building. He knocked on the window multiple times until Sora opened it.
"Keep it down. Do you know what time it is?"
Sora stood in his pyjamas, rubbing his eyes tiredly. It had taken Absalon three days to convince Sora to move to Musutafu—a far better area than his previous place, which had been rundown with little hero presence.
Sora had been hesitant at first. He didn't want to leave his sick sister behind. Luckily, Absalon had already thought of that. He'd used the Horse Talisman to cure her while she slept secretly, so both of them could live in Musutafu instead of that miserable place.
A sane person might ask why Absalon was doing all this work. The answer was simple: he wanted Sora and his sister a second chance cause they're just two people struggling to survive this era that is not full of sunshine and rainbows. Absalon may torture and kill scums but atleast he's doing the right thing.
Absalon answered Sora's question nonchalantly.
"Come on dude. It's 1 AM It's not that late."
"Only for you," Sora muttered with annoyance.
Absalon heard it but didn't mind. Sora was his favourite mole for gathering information.
"Anyway, I'm here to give you your check—for being my best employee."
He pulled out a stack of yen. Sora grabbed it and started counting.
Sora finished counting the money; Absalon could see the concern in his eyes when he counted his payment.
"If you want to say something, just get on with it. I want to go home and make meatloaf for breakfast."
"How long do I have to keep working with you?"
Sora asked the question that had been weighing on his mind. It had been some time since he became the most wanted vigilante's mole. He got good pay for the work—enough to get his sister proper treatment, which she finally received. She was cured now.
When they moved to Musutafu, Absalon still made sure Sora kept working for him, earning enough money to pay the bills. It was a good deal, help people in the shadows and get paid but Sora was scared. Scared of getting caught by heroes and villains.
"Are you afraid for your sister if they find out you're working for me?"
Absalon crossed his arms, looking down at Sora, who nodded in response.
"Yes. A week after you revealed yourself in my dream. I was hesitant about your methods. But you supported me and I'm grateful for that.
When she got better and you gave me money to move here, I start to feel like it's too risky to continue this forever. People who hate you will target me or her."
Absalon tilted his head.
"I could let you go right now. But it'd be hard to find another job with wages like mine—especially one that doesn't get destroyed by a villain attack and leave the company bankrupt."
"Then I'll try to find something else."
Beneath his mask, Absalon rolled his eyes. He understood Sora's reasoning, but he thought it was foolish.
There was no peace in a world full of heroes and villains especially in this era, when All For One was at his peak in power and influence.
Then he had an idea.
"I think there's a job that might suit your basic skills. Besides spying and hiding of course."
Sora raised an eyebrow.
"There's a repair shop about thirty-five minutes from here, if i remember the owner works alone, but he gets good pay fixing vehicles.
But the place gets messy and there's a bathroom in his repair shop. You could convince him to be his janitor to clean the shop and the bathroom.
I don't know if it's possible but hey, at least try before you get a job that could poll."
'Come on, take the bait or else you put fries in the bag job.'
Absalon waited as Sora deep in thought.
"Okay, I'll try it out. Maybe in a day or two my sister needs help sorting out her stuff in her apartment."
"That's the spirit."
Absalon tapped Sora's shoulder, then turned to leave but stopped a second.
"Oh right. If you do get the job, just give me one last piece of intel before you leave. Deal?"
Sora nodded. That was the answer Absalon needed.
He turned invisible and used his super speed to dash home.
Moments later, he arrived but used the Monkey Talisman to transform into a fly, slipping through the small gap in his window.
He changed back to his normal self and headed to his room.
"Need some rest for this interview. Hopefully, they're easy to convince about the mech."
John muttered as he drifted off to sleep for the upcoming meeting.
....
9 AM
John sat inside a small office with the Uraraka couple, both looking pleased to meet him.
A mechanic had sent them a message about a solution for their struggling construction business and a project that could support it sounds helpful.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Hunter. It's just me and my wife, Miyako—first time meeting someone from America who's willing to help us. Hard to believe it myself."
"Oh, come on, Haruki. John is a successful mechanic. He fixes people's cars and even cuts down the price. He seems like a good man—like heroes saving people."
Both of them laughed a little. John kept his smile, but he felt slightly uneasy at being compared to heroes when he was a vigilante who killed and beat bad people.
Well, they're definitely Ochaco's parents after meeting them in the flesh. If I remember right, the anime or manga never revealed their actual names.
His thoughts were interrupted by the couple.
"I wish we could just talk about my project," John said, "but I think it's better if I actually show you."
He stood up and led the Uraraka couple outside, where a truck with a large container was parked. John opened the container door and climbed inside.
"This might take a minute or two, so please wait."
About a minute passed. The Urarakas heard the heavy clang of metal hitting the floor inside the container.
"Mr. Hunter? Are you alright?"
Wondering what was happening, they peeked inside.
"My God..."
A massive mech stepped out of the container, towering over the couple.
They stood frozen cause this was their first time seeing a real mech up close.
John's mech moved smoothly, picking up heavy steel beams with ease and organizing them neatly.
He turned to face them, the mech's blue eyes glowing.
"What do you think? Cool, right?"
Haruki finally spoke after witnessing John's display.
"Mr. Hunter... this is incredible. But how exactly will a mech help our business?"
John turned the mech to face them fully before answering.
"Because many businesses collaborate with heroes that grab people's attention."
He made the mech's massive arm flex like some body builder
"They sell merchandise of heroes that people love. It wouldn't be far-fetched for a mech to receive collaboration offers from those same companies making big merch sales."
Miyako tilted her head. "You want us to... what? Sell merchandise of that mech?"
"Not exactly." John's voice came through the speakers. "What I mean is, a mech doing construction without staff physically getting hurt, doing the job faster that'll get many companies interested.
People will love watching cool giant robots demolish and build new structures without danger. That leads to potential funding for more mechs as different construction businesses will want to buy them for their crews."
Haruki exchanged a glance with Miyako.
"You're sure it'll work?"
John made the mech pull out two thumbs up.
"With a badass mech like this? Your crew can do their jobs faster, safer, and with more motivation for new staff to join in."
He extended the mech's massive hand toward them.
"What do you say? Deal?"
Miyako and Haruki shared a thoughtful look for a few moments, then nodded in agreement.
"Okay. We have a deal. We'll set up the paperwork to register your mech for small construction jobs."
"It might take two weeks to finalize, but it'll work since we're one of the cheapest construction companies for others to hire."
They happily shook the mech's hand. John couldn't believe his pitch had actually worked and he was glad it did.
John's mech goes back inside the container truck he's renting and was about to get out till he heard his phone.
Beep beep.
"Hm?"
John checked his phone and his eyes widened slightly. It was a message from Tsutsumi.
The text said she had free time tomorrow, She sent a location for a café to meet up.
'Looks like I need to get myself and Ai ready tomorrow to catch up with our "friend" at a nice café.'
John thought as he comes out the mech and closes the container doors, driving home still thinks it's odd he's hanging out a woman that tried assassinate him.
